Ah sure Audi are way better than BMW anyway.

Just realised that this is a dangerous place to say that :)

There were no nice Bimmers available either bar a 428i. I can drive a 420d whenever I want at home so nah.

I want to change the oil on the car. Unsure if I should do it myself or pay the premium of main dealer for the stamp in the book. Called BMW garage in the north today as they have done all the service work on the car for previous owner. Quote for just an oil change.....£304 (€340). Just for oil and filter. BMW website allows me to get a price online for my car, and for oil, filter and microfilter the price is £225. I would have thought a basic service is a standard price.

If you sign up to BMW First, you can get 20% off the service price, the first month is free:

    https://www.bmw-first.ie/home

Also the 6 cylinder engines use a good bit more oil than the 4 cylinders so an oil service is going to be more expensive. I just priced an oil service only for my 530d from www.bmwservice.ie and it's coming in at €235.63

Can you buy a service pack anymore?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,397 ✭✭✭vintagevrs

I called an ROI dealer and they never returned my call....

Will try tomorrow. Just seems mad price from the crowd in the north.

I think only on cars upto 5 years old and 100,000km.

Take note that a main dealer won't reset the service interval or update the digital service history in the iDrive if the car is not due a scheduled service.

Got it a few weeks ago ye. Failed on a few visuals. 2 front tyres are gone. It needs a bit of welding done under the battery tray at the rear of wheel arch. There is a hole. Also some weird thing where the vin stamped on the chassis has only 15 digits and the vin on the riveted plate and the logbook have the 2 extra stuck in the middle. Need to send off a form they gave me to change it. Could be worse I suppose.

Just got my own quote for swapping policy on to new car. New car is 80 bhp less than the GTI and has more safety features, yet cost an extra €97. Make sense of that ****ery.

    Did you replace your GTI?

You can renew the service pack again but it has to be before the original one expires. I let mine lapse, tried renewing and was told no.

There is a ceiling on the age and mileage of the car though. They also won't do it for UK imports as I found out when inquiring.

Interesting. I just picked up a 2013 530d. Bought from and serviced by an Indy (albeit Bimmer specialist). Shouldn't need anything for 15k (touches wood) but that'll get me through until this time next year. At that stage an Indy who stamps the book will have to do!

    Something even less interesting :p

Just a Tiguan TDI. Need something a lot more practical and frugal for a couple of years, so it will do.

What colour did you decide on in the end? :)

Very. Car was a shade pricey and he wasn't offering much on a trade with my E61 but we settled on a very amicable straight deal. Car came fully serviced with brand new two year test and 12 month warranty.

So called BMW today about service cost. For an oil change they said€165. I mentioned 20% discount with that loyalty card thing and they said no problem. So that's €132, plus I'll get free wiper change which is needed. Not too bad.

I asked how much to change the microfilter too, and that with the oil change is €330. €165 for a cabin filter seems crazy. I'll get the oil done with though id say.

I also really don't get the idea that they will not update service history or reset service computer on car if car is serviced early. Why would they not?

Lads I realise this is probably more suited to another forum but, is there any point reporting dangerous driving if I have no intention of going to court to testify?

Ford Transit basically tried to force me off the road for a hundred yards for having the nerve to maintain 10 yard gap to a line of slow moving traffic while doing the speed limit in the city. Came very close to hitting me a few times.

If you had done it on the spot with your phone he could have gotten a talking to before they realized you wouldn't go to court.
They may do it not, they may not. Depends on how dramatic you make it sound to them I suppose.

That's outrageous, who says the Germans don't have a sense of humour? An OEM pollen filter in an E46 can be had for about €20.

Yeah, I can do that myself. I'll get the oil and important iDrive service updated and that'll do me:).

I averaged an indicated 54mpg today on the way home from work as traffic meant no overtaking and mostly sitting at about 90kph. Not sure how optimistic the trip computer is but I'll do a proper mpg test next time I fill up.

Also discovered the car has launch control this evening. I tried it once before but it didn't indicate it was working on the dash although I did everything right. Read on a forum the car has to be driven a few miles first, so tried that this evening and it worked perfectly. Not something I'll use again likely but cool feature all the same for Willy waving.

    Compared with the 2.5 e30...

And then the golf from a few years back...

I'll be honest if I had launch control, I'd be using it off every toll bridge
