Saw one of the Mercedes pick ups parked up just there & had a discrete look. Nasty looking thing. Don't see the appeal over the Nissan variant unless it's very similarly priced.

Back in Dublin for the weekend and aggression on the roads seems to he worse than ever. 10 years experience of drivibg there befire i left abd don't remember it being this bad. Considering Sunday morning has been the worst everyone just be hungover. Running red lights has stayed the same.

Tis shocking compared to the sticks. Haven't gone near the place since last September!!

I work in Dublin frequently.... I don't find the it too bad, I'm a very relaxed driver admittedly.

It's somebody who needs a truck but wants you to know they can afford a Mercedes.

The interior of the merc is supposed to be class leading and not just lifted from the Nissan.

I only had a glance in the window, nice vents etc. Was a manual with I think a normal handbrake. There did seem to be a nice electronic type control for the 4WD lock etc.

Probably not hard to better the Navara, D Max and LS200 etc :)

I am too these days and esievially so as the baby was in the car. Just people being aggressive. Not sure what it was about. This evening was fine though. I'm up here with work during the year often enough and driving the country but this morning took the biscuit for it. Most times it's busy etc but today a few drivers were just being arse holes.

I might be conditioned to it. It's only the last few years I'm in Dublin very frequently and I'd be in the US and mainland Europe frequently too so hopping from left hand drive to right hand drive etc every few months maybe puts a slant on my view :)

I find the opposite tbh. People in Dublin are far more inclined to let you out of junctions, etc IME.

Can't say I find any difference in Dublin compared to the rest of the country, other than the inability to stay out of the middle lane of the M50 and the Naas dual carriageway.

I’d imagine the nearest rival in those terms would be the VW Amarok

Anyone think the standard of learner drivers is getting worse? I see many learners and novice drivers not bothered to indicate and breaking red lights.
If it's that close to their lessons it's worrying that they are so casual.

On the issue of lights, it seems safer to carry on through a late amber or early red when there is a car behind you. This stems from near rear ends when breaking at an amber light.

Driving in Dublin has definitely taken a significant dive in quality and behaviour in recent years.

Stress has increased. So has pressure.

More people are working longer hours, hurrying to more and more meetings, on tighter and tighter schedules. And money's getting tighter as price increases.

I've noticed my own driving takes a nosedive when I'm trending down toward the :( . Driving faster, shooting more lights and generally putting the boot in to people taking too long to get up to speed when the limit changes.

The biggest thing I've noticed is the amount of clowns taking ages to go on a green light

Because of a phone and not paying attention

    Or

Because their day dreaming and then the have to find first gear and use clutch and second gear

People would actually move faster in automatics, there's no comparison

Why would you spend an extra 4 or 5 grand on a glorified Navara

As a professional driver you must see it twice as much as the normal motorist.

As a professional driver you must see it twice as much as the normal motorist.

The phone usage issue has really gotten out of control , if you walked around any city now and looked in cars as your walking , you'll see nearly every second or more car driver using the phone

Or the head looking down at their leg..... Where their phone is.

I saw a taxi the other day, driver and 3 passengers sitting in traffic and every single one of them were looking down at a phone / tablet each.

On the motorways though I would add the number of people speeding haven't decreased. Still a good amount speeding but also aggression on the motorways has gotten worse I think

From very dangerous / close tailgating, flashing lights to get you out of the way and cutting in way to close ahead of you (had to hit the brakes hard the other day in a coach because of some clown doing that to me, they hadn't even cleared me ! Would've being a side hit !)

Also this carry on of flying from the outside lane to the motorway exit at the very last possible second that they even have to slam on and drive over the hatched area is crazy, how these people aren't killed is beyond me !

Gents, where can I get proper BMW badges for an e46 cabriolet? I hastily bought this and its stupidly too small on the bonnet. Buy cheap buy twice and all that..!

Nick Jupp from German Car Spares Kent, I got genuine BMW boot and bonnet badges for mine for £20 last year and they were as good as new (although I'd imagine it's more than this to post to Ireland).

New ones are about three times that price. If you can't find genuine used ones in good nick, brand new from BMW is the only way to go, anything else won't last at all.

Suggests that 82mm is correct (this is the size on the ad...). Measure the emblem and make sure. Maybe they sent the wrong one.

I made the same mistake. Just buy OEM, it's a bit more expensive but there is no comparison.

My e46 has yet another problem.... cosmetic this time. Mine has a factory spoiler on the boot, not just the strip one, it's larger. Well on the passenger side it has broken free. The glue and bolt holding it in place gave up. Looking under it there's a tonne of rust. It is very isolated to under where the spoiler attaches which is good. I'll get the dremmel out on the weekend and see how bad it is... I'd rather not have to replace the boot lid!

Speaking of wind deflectors, somebody stole mine last week, no damage to car. I would have thought once the windows were up you couldn't take them?

Up in Auto air-con yesterday for a regas, as passat felt hot and I'm driving it to Kerry next week. Guy calls me over and says compressor for air-con is gone. Balls. 200 to buy from eBay in Germany, whatever to fit and regas again. No chance I'll get this done in a week. I'm gonna roast.

Wholesale aircon gas is gone through the roof too meaning the €70 refill is now double or tripled.

So did I, but know a few people who've had them robbed off closed windows too
