Anyone else feeling a little more smug than usual about rugby > soccer? No way there would be 2 knockout rugby games go to shots at goal after drab 3-3 score lines at the end of extra time.

All I know is, James Richardson will struggle to top: "Don't cry 4-3 Argentina"

So I don't watch the Fußball ... but Japan are currently 2-0 up against Belgium. Tin foil hat time but this whole thing feels like it's set up for a Russian win. Lots of weird results.

In anticipation of today's match, Switzerland is going wild: honking of horns, crows flocking into the streets, empty office blocks, mayhem like*

How exactly do you think one manages to set up results involving goals from open play without the bizarre cooperation of the teams involved? Home teams, especially in world cups, tend to get some favoritism from the ref but ultimately low scoring games like football lend themselves to shock results.

Columbia are up to 17 fouls. Half of them have to be on Harry Kane.

Even super strength soap wouldn’t get rid of the filth.

Ref won’t be getting another game.

Haven't cheered for Columbia like this since the end of Narco's season 1!

I normally never really support England (cricket when the opponent is Australia) but happy for them there after the Colombians were just plain filthy.

I watched 10 minutes of the second half, some of extra time and the penalties.

I am incapable of appreciating what is good about this game, without being hugely frustrated with the things that are obviously terrible.

Also, as far as Brexit is concerned, a World Cup win for England would be a bad populist and nationalist ingredient to throw into the mix at this stage to be honest.

Oh jesus it would be a disaster, especially with the Tories starting to look like they might have some sliver of sense today

But which would be worse for anti-EU sentiment - winning the World Cup, or losing in the final to someone like France?
