I am pretty sure you need utility bills or bank statements in your name with the Dublin address. Also you have to present to the nct centre in the Dublin area where the address is. I am not fully sure but don’t think a donegal nct center will accept your Dublin paperwork.
I know a girl from limerick who changed her bank accounts and mobile phone account to her brothers address in Dublin as she was bringing in a car and hates L reg. As far as I know she had to present the car to a centre in Dublin.
If you can do it vintage I would get D over DL too.

Yeah I do have a brother in Dublin. Problem is I need a bill of some sort in my name. Its probably gonna be a lot of hassle. Hard to quantify if it's worth it though. DL plate doesn't bother me in the slighest, and probably someone local would like to take it off my hands when the time comes so might just leave it at that.

Interesting that a Dublin car is perceived to be better cared for than a DL reg by most when most people in DL are commuting on national roads at 100kph rather than sitting in start stop traffic.

Guys, good garage in Cork? Car running rough when warm, possible air leak I don't know what to do with it anymore..need some good mechanic please. Thanks. It's an E30. Greatest car when running right, pos rubbish when something's wrong. :)

08 Mondeo 1.8tdci - over the last few days it has started to suddenly lose power. Driving at approx 100kmph and then a sudden judder of power loss (only for a second) and then back to normal. This would continue the whole journey every few minutes when at that speed. Any ideas of what could be causing this?

Faulty injector, dpf, EGR or another sensor.

Mine dies if I rev it over 2krevs as it's the fuel pump.

    Put it in his name??

Scan one of his utility bills and change the name to yours. They're hardly going to verify it

Might not be as bad as what we were anticipating. Car is still driving fine apart from that slight judder. I’ll drop it to the garage during the week! Thanks

Don't want to put it in his name as extra driver then on the log book. Photoshop might be an option

I have heard very good things about Fionnsport by three separate people I know. I called into them one Saturday (I thought my car had developed a problem while I was down in Cork, although it turned out that it hadn't) and I certainly got the impression they knew what they were doing.

They certainly impressed me enough that when I'm down that way towards the end of next month I plan on availing of the opportunity to get a few minor jobs done to my E46.

That's a standard BMW issue, once you get it sorted it will have you back under that magic spell where you instantly forgive it for having wasted all your money for randomly going wrong for no good reason, they're just such nice cars to be in and to drive for the five days of the year they're actually running 100% right:D.

I use Fionnsport on the Old Mallow Road for major work on my 540i, he's a BMW nut with plenty of E30's of his own, you'll always see his garage full of M-Cars or other high performance BMW's/German Marques.

Sounds something simple like a vacuum hose or split boot somewhere though!

RX8 now running again thanks to Shadow Rotary.

    And a replacement engine.

Sparkplug electrodes are not nice for an engine.

You said you're holding into it for a good few years. What difference will the reg make when it's 10 or 12 years old a hundred or two? Totally up to you obviously! :)

I don't get this whole reg thing. Get your home reg, worry about resale value when the time comes, life's too short. There's more to it than worrying over a few dollar bills.

In fairness if I bought something I'd like to think I would keep it for a few years too but I know I would get the urge after a year or two to change it for something else. I think vintagevrs will be the same too :)
Its a nice dream to have but if the money is available he may change again before too long :)

I have been going to Fionnsport now ever since Foxhole told me about him. He is a brilliant mech and has sorted my ST out for me when other places were telling me there is nothing wrong  I will be going nowhere else in future with any car!

I should have mentioned that in my previous post, but when I said three people recommended them to me, FN here was one of them!

Drove 450km today, across 9 counties and into Norn Iron and back. The difference in road surface from county to county and even jurisdiction to jurisdiction was stark. Why can't a basic standard in road surface be applied across the island? Surely it couldn't be that hard?

Also, KFC is Komplete F***ing Crap.

That lets you know who got elected to the Dáil and where they live.

............Why can't a basic standard in road surface be applied across the island? Surely it couldn't be that hard?..............

You have relatively huge counties like Cork and Kerry with multiple total miles of road compared to the likes of Kildare, a small but wealthy county. Unless the basis standard was absolutely brutal I can't see all county councils or whatever being able to afford it.

Also there are thousands of miles of roads that don't get much traffic.

I went from Cork City to Kinsale a few weekends ago and thought the road surface from halfway to Kinsale was really poor.

    250km a day 5 days a week? Wow! Thought I had it bad at 110km a day.

I slipped myself coming back from bringing the dog for a walk. I wasn't even going that fast. It's a back road that melted and yesterday the council were out with a tractor and trailer full of lose pebbles spraying all over the melted roads. Lethal now.

Some days could be 50, some could be over 700.

I did just shy of 650km in the past day. 500km plus 150km but had a nights sleep in between. Hope you have something comfy, I had to change from my Volvo to a BMW on my journey and the Volvo would have made feel like half the drive.

That's one of the better roads in Cork. You can get a lot poorer than that if you want to :)
