Jesus I had no idea they were that expensive new here. Just went on the config. BMWs mobile website is terrible. I paid 27% of the new rrp price for a 4 year old car.... Ouch to anyone buying new.

You should see the depreciation on a 6 Series.

Looking for some pricing advice before I put my car up for sale. I've bought it's replacement so no rush to sell.
it's an 01 BMW 325ci Coupe, 101k miles, NCT til October, black with cream leather, elec seats, sunroof, cruise control etc - spotless condition bar one small spot of rust size of a €2 below the bootlid.

It has got a crack in the expansion tank which I'm considering fixing before selling but trying to decide if it's worth the PITA job of doing it or giving someone a discount based on the fact that they'll have to do it.

    Anyone got thoughts of a fair price A fixed & B not fixed, my thoughts were A - €1k, B - €650

They can overheat if any part of the cooling system is past it and if they do then you might as well get a new car. Really if you're doing it then you should change the water pump and thermostat as well (and possibly the radiator depending on condition), the labour won't be much extra but obviously you've a higher cost of parts so I understand why you wouldn't want to do this. To do a cooling system properly on one of these is at least €400 at a garage, more if you did the radiator as well.

A 325 is a niche car in Ireland (but they're fantastic - I have one as well) and has a limited market because of the engine size. What it means for you when it comes to selling is that it's really a BMW enthusiast who will be interested (or else someone who wants a drift car) and appreciates that fantastic six cylinder engine and how well these cars handle when the suspension is in good nick. Therefore, the type of buyer is likely to be quite knowledgeable about them. The more preventative maintenance you've done to it (e.g. cooling system, VANOS seals, rocker cover gasket and oil filter housing gasket changed, arches undersealed etc) the more you can charge (within reason), an enthusiast knows what jobs would need to be done and I think will pay the extra for a well maintained car (I certainly would pay more for a car that's been looked after as BMWs don't take kindly to skimping on maintenance and if certain jobs haven't been done then I'd be getting them done as soon as I possibly could).

    ........ B - €650

Indeed, donedeal it for that. No point spending money on the thing when you are selling. It'll quite likely be in a scrap yard shortly.

I presume your e46 is an SE model? Same as mine. Really these aren't worth very much, and the market is really limited. If the expansion tank is goosed, then a potential buyer won't even be able to test drive it, or drive it home if they buy. Which will make it difficult to shift imo.

It'll be hard to shift almost no matter what condition it is in, although yours does have low mileage and it sounds like it is in good condition otherwise.

Expansion tank replacement on those is a cheap easy DIY, about €60 to get a new one and 30 minutes to replace, if that. Bleeding the system afterwards isn't hard either.

No it's Msport with my favorite wheels - MV1's.

To be honest I'm funny when I'm buying cars. I'd rather a 1k car with €500 work to be done than a €1500 car with it all done. Just means I can bring it where I want & have complete assurance.

Additionally, I don't really think many people will pay a proportionate premium for a well maintained car. I look after my cars very well for my own enjoyment/peace of mind, in the knowledge that it's 90% sunk money. Someone who will pay much more for a sorted e46 is a niche customer within a niche group of customers.

I think I'll throw it up on DD for around 800 with the aim of selling for 650ish. Thanks for the advice.

I stuck up my 320ci yesterday for just under 2k. Maybe that should be in the dreamers thread??

Yours is 05 though and is more tax and insurance friendly.

I would have said yours was a bit cheap (I would not let my 325 go that cheap because of the work I've done to it and yours is in similar condition to mine) especially when you just did the clutch and DMF, but I get the feeling I'm the one who's living on cloud cuckoo land!

Back to the previous poster, because it's a Sport I think you could charge €200-300 more for it. You mightn't get anywhere and then you'll have to drop the prices to what you're thinking of, but if you don't ask, you won't know.

@Vintagevrs the 320's sell for more based on the tax & insurance difference, as CS said above, mines 4 yrs older so non facelift too. 2k is fine.

@CS - True I'll throw it up a bit higher & judge reaction or lack thereof.

Great news for those who have been upset by the passing of the Toyota Avensis. Toyota is relaunching the Camry.

Camry was always a fine bus IMO. A 2019 hybrid version might well be very decent :)

Could be a nice car but I'm still not sold on a 2.5 being economical despite it being a hybrid.

I'm very happy with my Avensis even if it's overwhelmingly average at everything

I’m noticing a good few 2014/15 import Camry’s on donedeal lately. 2.5 hybrid, €190 tax etc. nice looking cars too

It's a manual, initially I was looking for auto but glad I couldn't find one I liked as the manual is lovely

IS300h is very economical to be fair, so this would be similar.

Was home from NZ for a week last week and did a fair bit of driving and cycling around south Dublin. Two thing stood out; how much more space and respect nearly every motorist gives to cyclists compared to a couple of years and (which is great) and the total and utter disregard drivers have for red lights (which is insane). Not just one sneaking through as it jsut goes red but 2-3 cars or setting off while lights still red, rolling over the lines by long distance too. I actually can't believe how rampant it was.

Yeah I hadn't seen them before but they look a fine bus.
    They'd make a fine taxi:

Economical for a 2.5 or just economical. Id love an IS300H next but worried it would cost a bomb to run

North of 40mpg is easy to achieve in them, close to 50 mpg isn't unattainable either but they aren't quite as efficient as a 2.0 diesel :)

    They may not be.
Totally depends how you drive them and more importantly where.

If you're doing 200km on the motorway then the diesel wins and it's not even close.
Pootling around town or in the city centre stop start traffic the hybrid will win over a diesel in the same car. It depends on where you drive most.

I believe the chap who I was responding to does lots and lots of miles, not pootling about town either. ..... he mentions a diesel Avensis is his current car a few post ago on this page.

Droped off my car for Valleting. Just could not look at it anymore! There are generations of family bugs on my car! Genocide that I am doing unwillingly!
Now to kill two hours in city...

Yep pretty much it. I've a full on 7 months a year on the road and the rest has lots of stop start journies and long trips anyway also.

Think I covered about 60k in the past 12 months. My Avensis has been faultless, effortless and comfortable. Definitely not exciting but that's really not what I wanted when I bought it 12 months ago.
