Nah, both parts are in the €50-60 range and 20 minute jobs. The cam follower you can do yourself handy enough, the DV requires a ramp.

Nice one, thanks. Do you still have your one?

I'm in a 0.9tce Renault captur for the long weekend. Decent little engine to be fair....pulls away nicely.

Could do with some vicks throat syrup or similar in the air intake though at times :pac:

Not a bad car. Quite spacious & comfy. On the motorway tyre and wind noise (which aren't at all intrusive) are more audible than the 3cyl that's at 3200 rpm @ 120kph. 5 speed manual.

Around town the little 3cylinder is more noticeable sometimes over the radio even. 38mpg ish.... far better than a 1.0 corsa I had last year but just slightly lighter on juice than a 1.0 Ibiza. Far more lively than both thanks to the turbo & extra bhp it provides.

Heading up north to have a look at a few cars Saturday morning. Anyone know if Charles Hurst Belfast and NI dealers in general are open to negotiation? Have a few cars to view but would be nice to know where I stand before I head up.

Just to update this for anyone thinking of going up. Got different discounts from different places. Merc main dealer went down from 17995 to 17350, non main dealer from 17500 to 17250. Few others were sticking to the sticker price, didn't end up talking to anyone in Charles Hurst in the end as cars weren't up to standard when seen in the flesh, some lovely machines there all the same just not what I was looking for. Just down the road from Hursts is a whole row of main dealers, Merc, BMW, Nissan and beside hursts is Renault, Citroen and a few others. Great place to spend a saturday if you're in the market for a car and not set on any in particular as you can view pretty much every brand of car.

Any Toyota people know what would cause a Mk2 Avensis VVTi to have the engine malfunction, VSC and TRC OFF lights come on all in one go?

Parents rang me earlier to tell me these lights came on.

According to them, the car is driving fine, no loss of power, no strange sounds, etc.

I'm assuming there aren't faults with both the traction control and stability control and the engine - it will be one or the other. I seem to remember that Toyotas with traction control and stability control make the dashboard light up like a Christmas tree any time something goes wrong with them.

I wouldn't mind but I drove the car earlier (with no lights on) and I thought the engine was absolutely spot on, it does feel fairly tired (there's over 200,000 miles on the clock) but the only thing that I would say is definitely 'wrong' with it is the fact that the tracking is quite out.

Could be anything really but you're right that if you get a check engine light for any reason it will bring on the VSC and traction control lights.

Not a bad car, but basic. Wouldn't call it comfy though, we were at a big push last summer having a Captur as a rental car for the 5 of us with luggage. It really was far too small for us. Looked up the Irish price for the 1.5d we had with a decent spec and it was €25k. That's insane as it's the same as what I paid for my Ioniq EV (a far bigger and better specced car with higher performance, much higher spec and obviously much cheaper to run, tax, insurance, maintain, etc.)

You got a stonker of a deal on your Ioniq to be fair though.

A captur for 5 & luggage is madness. It's a Clio on stilts sort of thing. A 5 series is spacious but if you need it to carry 6 people it's not :)

I need a car for 4 & luggage next week, passat/508 size of a thing booked.

My Inshoooooooooooooooooooooooorance dropped from 900 to around 600. It feels like winning a few 100 quid on a scratch card

Yeah mine went down this year by more than my current car costs

My insurance renewal increased by €300

I'm not sure why haven't had a claim in 10 years plus no penalty points.

Time to ring around. My renewal jumped up too. A couple of calls and back to my insurer,viola-they magically came down to lower than anyone and cheaper than last year.

    How old was it.
We got a Hyundai Lantra over here, might have been badged as an Elantra for some generations. The size between the Accent and the Sonata, a Carina/Mondeo type "rival".

I think the early 00s one was badged an Elantra alright, a lecturer had one when I was a student.

    Wiki .........

Also called Hyundai Avante (South Korea)
    Inokom Elantra (Malaysia)
    Hyundai Elantra Langdong (China)
    Hyundai i35 Elantra (Israel)
    Hyundai Neo Fluidic Elantra (India)
    Production 2010–2015
    2012–present (China)
    2016–present (Algeria)

Dunno how an Elantra of 2012 ish vintage would be over here as a RHD :)

    Interesting spot.

Has anyone else from around the country seen lads doing burnouts and dohnuts on motorways?
Seems to be a regular pastime on the M11/ Gorey Bypass.
Another load of fresh rubber under every bridge after the long weekend. Idiotic enough doing it on crossroads on rural roads but on a motorway???

I'm down that way quite a lot and yes I see it on the motorway.
It's also on the M3/N3 a lot too. I find the closer you get to Cavan on that road the more likely it is that roads (crossroads in particular) will have the marks from these handbrake turns on it.

I was behind a fella a couple of years ago who crashed a mercedes on the n3 doing a handbrake turn coming off the roundabout. I guess these boyos just buy cheap cars until they either fall apart, crash, or the car gets taken off them. Then repeat ad nauseum.

In my day they told us that going to the pub and driving home was bad because it was dangerous... but these lads are taking that to another level.

I remember one night I saw marks on the M7, M8 and M9, all on the same round trip of sorts for me.

Seems to be the new popular thing to do, how they manage to find the time to do this is baffling

Doing rings has to be one of the most least impressive things that somehow some think is PURE LEGEND.

Saw a nice 200sx video on facebook (the car was nice, video was very ish), the lad finishes off the few mins with a doughnut.

It's not unusual to see them parked up in Enniscorthy at stupid o clock on any given night. I was dropping people off to meet the early bus at 5am one Thursday morning and they were sitting in the usual spot. Obviously didn't have to get up and do a day's work.

Very popular with teachers for some reason

Eehhhh no... I never saw one in a staff car park in my life. Us teachers like Auris/corrollas, Golfs and focuses. Not me though.. I like Volvos which are even more boring..

When I was in secondary school (90s) there was quite a few Nissan Almera saloons driven by the teachers. Our first year tech drawing teacher (he retired after that year) had a fairly cool 3 door Sunny.

Our English teacher had a 306 GTD, he had other business interests as well though. That was the most exotic car iirc.
