Sure the golf had its 4 wheel covers stolen last year genuine VW ones.

My car has OE valve dust caps with the Audi logo on them and surprised I still have the four of them as obviously they would fit any Audi.

People seem to steal these in my experience.
Anything branded with the OEM logo seems to get stolen.
A neighbour of mine had (no joking) OEM branded wipers that were stolen off his 6 month old dacia sandero and badly replaced with old broken wipers.

We have a lot of local hoodlums going around though in my area, the local police know who they are but can't do anything without catching them.

I'm thinking about putting CCTV on my gate as my bin was stolen the other week, only to be found in the front garden of my neighbour about 1 km down the road... rubbish and all.

Should have tipped the rubbish in his lawn at night and set it on fire.

No it wasn't the neighbour's fault... it looked like someone else had stolen it (local hoodlums suspected...) and pushed it down the road/towed it in a car down the road... and thrown it into the guys front yard spraying my rubbish everywhere.

Had to go and give him a hand cleaning it up.

I think I can trump that. I was on the way to work this morning down a country road (enough not to have a white line), and in the middle was an obviously stolen and abandoned massive mobile home. Still had the for sale sign in the window. Think the thieves had caught it in the hedgerow and snapped the trailer hitch. It was causing mayhem.

I had the front fog light bracket robbed from my old Passat CC on my driveway one night by scrotes. The part cost €40 from VW. Anything from the VAG stable is seen as a magnet to the scrotes down here.

When I got the M-Performance bootlip spoiler for mine I came out to it after being in visiting to find it half hanging from the bootlid. Someone tried to pry it off but stopped, not before causing damage to it and the bootlid with whatever he used. The paint shop who did it for me originally resprayed it and shipped it to me for free.

Sit on William st for an hour and you'll probably see the car it made it on to.. I would love a 335d or similiar but I reckon short of locking it away everynight it would be robbed in no time down here.

My tax expired yesterday. Usually I just tax a car for 12 months and be done with it but I'm considering moving this car over the next month or two so figured I'd tax it for three months.

I knew there was a slight increase in cost per month doing this compared with 12 months, that they could try and justify with extra admin and postage of 4 tax renewals in a year vs 1. But Jesus, if ye pay quarterly they want an extra 170 quid for the privilege.

    Screenshot_20180601-180420.png

How they can stand over that is a joke

It's mad, makes no sense for me to tax a full year at €1809 and the difference between taxing it for a half year at €1,003 instead of quarterly is so small that I may as well tax it quarterly at €511

That's why if I have the money to do it, I will pay for the whole year, for me it's €1,080 a year or else €1,220 (€305 X 4) quarterly. That's €140 over the whole year so when I can, I just set €90 aside every month and I do the same thing for insurance as well.

To be honest, that's ten times worse than the car tax actually, even allowing for the fact that I've got a 2.5, it's outrageous how much my insurance costs.

Kind of a pain though if you're driving a car that could become an economic write off at any given time. As is the case for me and plenty others.

You've jinxed it I just got an email reminder to say my tax is up the end of the month. If you have asked me this morning I would have said I had 2-3 months left on it. I can't complain as its not too expensive relative to a lot of the rates. Still annoying when I forgot about it though.

Oh don't you worry, I'm in that club as well, and fear not, it does go wrong more often than I'd like:D!

Don't you get a refund on any unused tax if the car needed to be scrapped anyway?

I'm in a 0.9tce Renault captur for the long weekend. Decent little engine to be fair....pulls away nicely.

Could do with some vicks throat syrup or similar in the air intake though at times :pac:

Anything I should be cautious about with this car? I’m thinking about selling my A3 and this caught my eye... I haven’t made any enquiry about it yet with the dealer.

Yep you'll get a refund if you can produce a cert of destruction but again that can be awkward if you had hoped to sell as a going concern or break it.

I suppose in the case of breaking a car it'd motivate a man to get the car stripped of any valuable parts before sending the shell on its way.

Timing chain problems. An 08 n47 is the prime candidate for them going no mention of it being done either. Its a circa €1000 fix.

The alloys are off an early e90 saloon and are 17" they'd be comfy but I'm not sure they're much of an upgrade. Couldn't comment on the dealer but theres a good few from limerick on here so they might know more.

Newcastle West wouldn't have a great reputation for trustworthy dealers but it's not a hard or fast rule. I work out that way so if you want me to go have a peep at it before you make a journey give me a PM.

Dropping off ST to new owner and viewing a new bus within the next two hours and I'm tired as feck from work and smell like a gorilla.

    Will report back if successful.

I lost track on your ST’s at this stage that was a mk2.5 you had though did you have it long ?

What would a grinding noise at 2k revs, but only when in drive and moving, mean? E92 325i. I'm going to drop it into Valdas next week anyway, but it's a weird one.

Is it only at 2k or does it get louder the higher you go?

If so I'd be guessing its gearbox bearings

Does it occur in all gears?

Are there any warning lights? If it's the gearbox you'll see an orange cog symbol on the dash.

Having notions about getting a mk5 golf gti as a daily. Might go to look at a 2005 model this week. Anybody with any advice about them or things to look out for? :)

Make sure the cam follower and diverter valve have been replaced. If DSG then make sure it's been serviced rigidly to schedule.

Thanks man. Think I would go for a manual. Are those expensive jobs if they haven’t been done?

Bear in mind its an auto. No lights, happens at all ranges I think. I was thinking transmission myself considering it doesn't happen in park or neutral.

Could it be a bit of exhaust heat shield resonating at a certain rpm? Probably not as it only happens on the move but had something similar before and it was a loose heat shield.
