    ^ Great stuff, thanks.

Have an account after buying the Mi Band yoke..

Seems I don't have to request unlock - it's not asking me to fill in a form, just goes straight to the download software page.. .

Ordered two cases - the one corkie posted, and this, more industrial looking one - I reckon I might need it, as I drop phones on the regular..

That second one is a design knock off of the Spigen Rugged Armour case they make for iPhones and Samsung phones. I have an original and the knock off. For my iPhone 6S Plus. The only issue I had with the knock off was the rubber grommets that covered the ports did not fit right and kept coming out. But the design is solid and should provide great protection for your phone.

15% battery left as I type this, so far on 33 hours since charge, 7 hours screen on full brightness.

Very impressed that I can get 2 days out of it. My not 4 was barely lasting until lunch (and that was with a battery double the size of the one in this phone!)

Shipment notification received from Goldway - DHL tracking shows as 'shipment info received' ..

Anyone who used Goldway remember how long it was from receiving this email to delivery?

I'm hoping about a week, but they did put an estimate of 7-15 days for the DHL shipping method..

Goldway ship via UPS to the UK in bulk then that shipment is broken down to individual orders and sent on via DHL with the tracking number they advise.
Usually @5 working days from "shipment info received" to delivery.

At €2.65 via the app (with slow boat shipping), I couldn't resist - that's 3 cases I have coming now, but the dearest was less than a tenner, and the other a fiver..

edit: for some reason, my payments via the Ali website have been failing the last few days - had to order using the app.,

I tend to use the Ali app to add bits to my my basket and then checkout via desktop.
The savings in the app are often exaggerated and using Desktop means that I can avail of cashback of @4.5% via topcashback.co.uk

Has anyone purchased this from eglobal. I see it is €198 there at the moment for the 4/64gb version. Looks to be cheapest. I'm not 100% it's the global version although they appear to mention on other phones if this they are selling the Chinese version. Can anyone tell from the description? Cheers.

It has Band 20 listed, and the 13mp camera, which should mean it's not the Indian version, so I think this makes it the global version.

Haven't used eglobal - think experiences have been mixed - maybe check the camera forum - there's a long running thread there.

Appreciate the response, I saw it has the 636 processor so I think its the right phone, the Indian version has the 625. I was not sure if it was the Chinese or global rom. You are probably right about the presence of band 20 making it the global version. Have ordered from eglobal in the past, granted a few years ago but had no issues.

Im no expert on these phones but I assume for the price I am getting a good bang for my buck with this phone vs a similar priced phone in a shop.

Going to buy from this link unless anyone advises me not to.

Just about to buy this and was just wondering if anyone can say this is definitely the global version (99% sure it is as it says UK)
I know it's the redmi pro and not the note BTW, is the note a better option?

It is the Redmi 5 Plus and not what this thread is about. The Redmi Note 5 is a far superior device.

Your link for that is a very expensive for the device.

Same device can be got for €161.49 + approx €22 shipping from honorbuy. <<< Redmi 5 Plus

    Or €154.06 + €22 shipping from Goldway <<< Redmi 5 Plus

Your query would have been better posted in this thread.

You not comparing the global versions of the phones.

The Redmi Note 5 Pro is the India variation.

The Redmi Note 5 AI is the global version.

    ^^^ Above two compared: - https://m.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=8893&idPhone2=9120

And gsmarena does not have specs for global Redmi 5 Plus.

Redmi Note 5 specs vs Redmi 5 Plus Specs

    RN5 has better processor 636 vs 625!
    Also better camera's

    Hi All,

Looking at this for E220 delivered from Honorbuy. Is it a better phone than Huawei P20 lite/Smart? I haven't a clue about routing etc, can I use it straight out of the box with my 3 simcard?

    Compare the two here.

Note: - Huawei are no longer allowing bootloader unlocking

The Redmi Note 5 can be gotten cheaper on Aliex.. Goldway for €202 includng shipping.

Yes the global device will work on 3, takes a Nano Sim.

Can be use out of the box, but you may want to debloat the device, to get rid of xiaomi adware.

Android 8.1 MIUI 9.5 Global <<< I believe, but MIUI 10 is available as beta that can be flashed to the device.

Mine has made the first leg of the journey via Goldway.. quite a circuitous route to the UK it took..

Waiting patiently - current phone is working perfectly apart from reduced battery life, so I'll take my time setting up the WHYRED the way I like it.

Will try RR rom first, and maybe a couple of launchers (I use Apex on this phone - anyone any suggestions on their favourite?)

I know Corkie is running Resurrection Remix.
Anyone care to report on what ROM you're running, or even how you're getting on with the stock MIUI?

I need to root the phone regardless, for ad blocking, but had thought of trying miui first off - I think there's a version that has the stock ROM trimmed of bloatware that I could try...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,401 ✭✭✭corkie

@UsedToWait The more popular debloated miui rom is called Xiaomi.eu, used it for over a year on my Kenzo, there is other versions but I didn't see them mentioned for whyred.

As for launcher : - [5.0+] Ruthless (Pixel 2) Launcher (based on azaidi's AOSP Pixel Launcher)

I use the version provided through XDA Labs as it is a standalone version and can be installed if you have stock pixel launcher on your device. The one provide in thread links is using the same app name. (I use it on my Nexus 9 because the XDA labs version was not available when setting it up).

Use it even having Nova Prime for years, but never got around to setting it up on my devices.

Just as an update, I ordered last wednesday from eglobal. Paid 198 total for the 4gb/64gb version and it was delivered this morning, for anyone thinking of ordering. I find the phone good so far, impressed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 540 ✭✭✭captain_boycott

ordered Friday night from Honorbuy, arrived Tuesday morning. Same fast delivery I got from previous orders via Geekbuying, also came from Italy warehouse. Are Geekbuying/Honorbuy just different front ends for the same store? Tracking details via DHL suggest they are.

Anyway, regards the phone, first impressions are good. Love the aspect ratio and full screen mode but navigating using gestures instead of the buttons is taking some getting used to!

I purchased tempered glass screen protector, and although it fits pretty well, the inside corners are square whilst the phone screen itself is rounded. You don't really lose much, just a pity it takes a little away from the look of an otherwise great screen.

Too early to say if the battery is a good as the note 4.

    @captain_boycott

Don't think there the same company. Probably just using similar distribution routes.

    As for Battery.

    Used my device RR-O-v6.1_12-06 + BB-R1.3 for 26 Hours and 30% Battery remaining. SOT 5h 15mins.

Accubattery estimates a possible 7h 25m SOT on a full battery.

I don't like listing SOT, because it so dependent on usage patterns, rom and kernel.
    • I use the device with screen off for downloading over VPN.
    • Transferring downloads to laptop over wifi.
    • Bluetooth Music streaming.
    • Battery draining games on Data. <<< A game used 17.1% 691.7 mAh over the above times.

But I pretty happy with the performance, I'm getting out of it now on the above setup. As it is only a new rom flashed yesterday, it may stabilize and get better.

Edit:- Sorry about your mismatching protectors, I got one with the device and another with a case. Both have rounded corners.

Corkie, I seem to be going down the rabbit hole a bit, as my phone crosses the Irish Sea, but could you explain, in a line or two:

    - why I would need a custom kernel (explain it like I'm a 2 year old please!)

    - the chronological order required
    - Unlock Bootloader, TWRP, Resurrection Remix, Magisk, Root, ?Kernel?
