It is already active in the rom, tested with build.prop editor. Open camera has it functioning. The GCam apps just force close.

Will try and get logs later today and post on XDA thread.

If you want GCam Ports on custom rom, choose your Gapps package carefully.

Make sure to use a version, that doesn't install Google Camera app.

I successfully installed a GCam Port by downgrading my Gapps from stock to a Nano Package. You may loose your launcher been used. I was using a custom launcher, so was not affected.

On a recommendation on XDA went with this specific

Gcam (MGC_5.2.022_AllAutoCORR_2.apk)

It is possible to downgrade your gapps with a dirty flash, I removed the survival script in system and flashed the latest experimental RR 26-05 version + Nano gapps.

You also will be missing some google apps, just install manually.

On another note: -

Tip: - Hogwarts Mystery -- Rooted Oreo device -- Limited Beta prompt.

Looks like HPHM app is actively looking for rooted users, if you have Magisk root. Setup a non rooted second account on your device and you will be able to play.

GKK Case arrived today! Kenzo and WHYRED both have it on.

Case adds a bit of bulk to the phones.

Photo taken on Nexus 9, cropped and scaled down with GIMP.

Goldway is still cheaper the Geekbuying prices listed above, but if you need Paypal protection, it might be a good choice.

Had my Son's handset delivered this morning.
He has just finished setting it up to his liking

Its my 1st Xiaomi device aside from Routers in quite a while, but I am absolutely blown away by the quality!
The device is very slick!
Camera is on a Par with an S7 I feel, performance on the 4GB/64GB is waaaaaaaaay in excess of what I'd expect at the pricepoint.
I was expecting Moto G, Alcatel Low end Huawei type performance but it is exceptionally quick!
I had built up a degree of expected "disappointment" in my mind but I know its early days but I am very surprised at the perfomance.
Bang for buck it really does feel exceptional.

The kid is coming to this from a Galaxy s6 and is blown away by it.
Its made my mind up on a Xiaomi Mi-8 as my own next handset and I can see the wife trying to commandeer the kids when she gets home.

I must say I'm very impressed.

I'd originally planned to install Lineage straight off the bat as the last time I'd used miui was back on the galaxy S2and I wasn't a fan back then.

It's actually not bad as is, fast and functional. Might give it a try for a bit and see. Phone is flying really puts my old phone to shame.how was I living with that lag for so long!

A second one ordered as the missus has declared she needs a replacement for the s7 immediately.

Has anyone been using a fast charger with their phone?
I have a samsung fast charger and it seems that when its on charge and if i try to text the keyboard acts erratically?
I brought the charger to the shop and he was happy to replace but advised it may not be compatible.
And the second charger has been behaving the same.
So if anyone has one they have been using without issue if they could post the brand or a link?

You dont get a wallet case with the phone but they can be bought on Ebay/AliExpress.

TPU/Gel cover comes free with the phone doesn't matter the seller, some have been know to remove them though. I got sealed box from honorbuy, so it wasn't removed.

Phone doesn't have ant+ enabled by default on miui os.

Can be enabled by downloading https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.quantrity.anttester and then the packages it says are missing.

May be of use to some.

Your device has to support the Level 3 Camera2 API for this app to function. You can check this with the Camera2 API Probe app from the Play Store. Once you know your device supports the Level 3 API, you can go ahead and install the Pro Camera app.

Comes to just under €240 delivered, choosing Amazon as the seller.

(It's currently out of stock, expected in 2-4 weeks - there's a fulfilled by Amazon seller with stock for €249 & €8 postage, but I'm in no rush, and prefer to buy Sold by Amazon)

It's down as talian version, but I'm 99% this means it's the Global version - if someone could confirm this, I'd appreciate it though..

Hmm be careful with that,the picture is correct but the description seems to be for the Redmi 5 plus!

Itchy trigger finger now - going to order today.

So, choices are

Goldway: $235.99 delivered (about €203)

Honorbuy: $270.11 delivered (about €232)

Amazon.fr: €257.90 delivered (fulfilled by Amazon)

I think the saving with Goldway is enough to make me get over my previous insistence on wanting to buy from Amazon, in case of trouble.

Would someone be kind enough to verify that the link above from Goldway is the right version? - don't want to order the wrong phone twice in the same day!

Why not get the Glass Film protection package, while your ordering.

Corkie, if you don't mind, will you just confirm if I've got this right from the bits I've been reading so far..

Need to unlock bootloader (might have to wait a while after registering?)
Install custom recovery (TWRP?)
Install Magisk
Root

Is that basically the steps to get root?

I was half thinking I'd try out MIUI or at least the stock ROM with a launcher to start, but it seems there's another / different step 'Lazy Flasher' required if you want to keep MIUI..

It looks like you've tried several ROMs, and are now on RR.
Would you recommend it / any issues?

If it is your first xiaomi device, you need to create a MIUI account and request unlock privileges. You can do that now while waiting for device. If your offered the unlock tool straight away, then you may not need to seek permission. (I create a new account recently for which I didn't need to request permission, possibly cookies or something on my laptop.)

For a while WHYRED devices where exempted from 360 Hours/15 days wait period to unlock devices (not the request process).
Some say it still works with older unlock tools (don't know how accurate that is, because xiaomi forces updates on them.)
Just Don't BIND your account in developer options. <<<< even though instructions tell you otherwise.

Only downside of RR is you loose the dual feature of the back cameras, rumor is there is someone working on a port.
Edit: - Positives: - Working xposed, trusted devices and no xiaomi adware or bloat.

Lazy flasher or RedWolf recovery required to stay on MIUI.

Check Xiaomi Reddit and XDA Threads about the device while you wait.
