No affilliation with Iona here. They are as looney as the far left groups on the Yes side.

The Yes side got the 8th repealed. Its now their responsibility to come up with legislation which covers all hard cases including raped women over the 12 weeks limit. Lets see what the final legislation says.

It would be odd if the legislation will not cover all hard cases.

The easiest way to do that is to make abortion unrestricted. I am assuming you would have an apoplectic fit at unrestricted termination, be that abortion or early delivery depending on viability and the country probably doesn’t want that anyway. But you can lobby for it if you want *all* the hard cases covered by the legislation. I would settle for getting the most common ones which is women figure out their pregnant in under 11 weeks and health related regulations for anyone more than 12 weeks pregnant. I would also settle for a single parent minimum income of 3000€ a month net so that you know some of the hard cases survive but not into abject poverty.
Clearly you missed the posts where I said I am in favour of abortion for hard cases. I want all hard cases covered in new legislation. Which is why I raised the question. I was against parts of the proposed legislation and I felt a no vote would force the government to come back with better proposals which I could support.

This was profoundly naive. The 8th amendment had to be repealed to get any change at all. A no vote would have seen things not reviewed for 10 years.

I must commend both sides on the speed that posters have been taken down.

Sure the no side were out taking down posters days before polling day ......................:)

That's as bad a Ben Bulbin.

These people should be tracked down and shown no mercy.

    Hysteria over :)

Not keen on that. The Ben Bulben stunt was rightfully heavily criticised and that’s no better, tbh. Doesn’t matter than it’s not a protected site. It’s still an eyesore.

That's Mount Misery, there's been a long fought war going on for years between Waterford and Kilkenny painting it blue and white and black and orange when hurling season is in full swing and occasionally they'll paint something else up there, like this.

Does anyone know how long the Savita halappanavar mural is being left up for in Dublin?

oh i hope it stays up/is brought somewhere to protect it from the elements. and if it does have to be removed to preserve it, i sincerely hope that a permanent memorial is put in place in Galway or Dublin (or both) in her memory and as a reminder of all the 8th and its repeal meant.

I'm going to dublin on thursday and feel that i need to visit it and spend a few moments there. but if its planned to be removed before then, then ill go up sooner.

Well according some NO posters in here there should be"rape commitees' set up to interview the woman in question and make the decision.

Me personally, I'd be happy to believe the woman and let her make the choice. If a woman presents herself at a doctor's over 12 weeks pregnant and says it's due to rape then let her have her termination.

    Just playing devils advocate here.
    A woman says she's raped.
If she won't report it, would that not cast doubt on the claim?
Then to justify her claim, some poor sod gets falsely accused...after all it's not the first time a false rape allegation has been made.

    No

Why not? . It's a very serious offence.
why would she not want the perpetrator brought to justice?

and relive the whole thing again? Oddly not every woman who is raped is keen on that.

Uh, no. A monumental number of women don’t report sexual assaults or rape because reliving the process is utter hell particularly in a court environment.

Rapes don't get reported a lot, survivors of it struggle to report. They've been through an immense trauma where they can even blame themselves for it. Reporting in itself can be traumatic given the interview and various medical tests that the woman has to get.

Oh yeah but even where a victim gets to court, she often doesn’t get justice because of reasonable doubt.

How often have you been sexually assaulted?

So we just trust her that she was raped and fulfils the grounds for abortion. Will be interesting to see that one abused!

She might not be in a position to do so, there may be dependents involved.

Or you could just not demand justification for terminations.

Has this been abused since 2013?
    I'll answer that, NO!!!!

You think women are going around making up rapes for abortions? You have very little respect for women...

I never said it wasn't over.
    I just posed a question.
If that's your pov, then all these post referendum threads shouldn't exist. It will certainly be an interesting year.

In my local town the big vote No billboard saying to protect the babies is replaced with Go Vegan and don't eat eggs!

The box of straws is empty after all the clutching by the No side.

Anyone else surprised by posts by the no side that show a lot of the attitude that most likely caused them to push any undecided voters to yes?

Despite what you think, I'm still entitled to an opinion.we haven't quiet become a totalitarian state where opposing views are crushed.

I'm not the No side. I was never in a yes/no side so get off your high horse.

Not surprised but the saltiness of the prolifers post referendum has been delicious.

Popcorn, that is what damaged the No side more than anything else. A lot of honourable genuine, (by my radar, mistaken) but a percentage of extremists.
    The extremists ran their campaign.
