The Yes side got the 8th repealed. Its now their responsibility to come up with legislation which covers all hard cases including raped women over the 12 weeks limit. Lets see what the final legislation says.

The easiest way to do that is to make abortion unrestricted. I am assuming you would have an apoplectic fit at unrestricted termination, be that abortion or early delivery depending on viability and the country probably doesn’t want that anyway. But you can lobby for it if you want *all* the hard cases covered by the legislation. I would settle for getting the most common ones which is women figure out their pregnant in under 11 weeks and health related regulations for anyone more than 12 weeks pregnant. I would also settle for a single parent minimum income of 3000€ a month net so that you know some of the hard cases survive but not into abject poverty.

This was profoundly naive. The 8th amendment had to be repealed to get any change at all. A no vote would have seen things not reviewed for 10 years.

oh i hope it stays up/is brought somewhere to protect it from the elements. and if it does have to be removed to preserve it, i sincerely hope that a permanent memorial is put in place in Galway or Dublin (or both) in her memory and as a reminder of all the 8th and its repeal meant.

I'm going to dublin on thursday and feel that i need to visit it and spend a few moments there. but if its planned to be removed before then, then ill go up sooner.

Me personally, I'd be happy to believe the woman and let her make the choice. If a woman presents herself at a doctor's over 12 weeks pregnant and says it's due to rape then let her have her termination.

If she won't report it, would that not cast doubt on the claim?
Then to justify her claim,some poor sod gets falsely accused...after all it's not the first time a false rape allegation has been made.

Uh, no. A monumental number of women don’t report sexual assaults or rape because reliving the process is utter hell particularly in a court environment.

Rapes don't get reported a lot, survivors of it struggle to report. They've been through an immense trauma where they can even blame themselves for it. Reporting in itself can be traumatic given the interview and various medical tests that the woman has to get.

Oh yeah but even where a victim gets to court, she often doesn’t get justice because of reasonable doubt.
