Tim Jackson.. he is having a hard time adjusting to the new reality.
I think he needs to stop talking. He's just making things worse for himself and his cause.

100%. If a man doesn’t want a woman aborting his baby then all he has to do is not get her pregnant.

It’s pretty simple actually, if he kept it in his pants then there’d be no abortions.

So nobody shoud ever get pregnant, the continuation of life on Earth is at complete discretion of women.

Should be excommunicated. In fact if you have an abortion or help procure one, you are already
And if you don't mind me asking; who are you to call for people to be excommunicated?

In 3 years, we have made incredible progress as a nation. We have eschewed the notion of a country still haunted by Catholic dogma, and have espoused progressive and social values, have given choice for people to marry whoever we want, regardless of same gender, provided women a choice in pregnancy and autonomy over their own bodies, their womb and we now march forward into 21st century towards social modernization. May we continue to strive as a nation and make this the very best for out people to live in.

Morally bankrupt. We can't criticize murder anymore when we have endorsed the murder of our most vulnerable. It's a step too far

Im very shocked by how many more people seemingly voted yes for this than the marriage referendum, in some counties at least. I thought for sure the number of yes voters would be at most the same number who voted yes in the marriage referendum. What explanation could there be for this?

I’d imagine that the sky was going to fall argument against marriage equality which people have subsequently seen to be absolute rubbish has shown people that a lot of what the no side says will turn out not to be true.

You assume that spoiled votes are unintentional.

Did you read that to yourself? It's stupid.

What should there be instead? Forced pregnancy camps?

Of course women should choose what goes on in their wombs.

Ask your priest. That's the Church's position.

That's subject to legislation. Once again a no voter doesn't understand what the referendum was actually about.

Ah FFS this is just word games. You know full well the legislation is ready to be enacted.

Whaaaaat? I never said nobody should ever get pregnant.

Just that if men are so concerned that their babies are going to be aborted then they should just not get women pregnant in the first place.

Well, I’ll be honest, I was a Yes voter who thought that there would be a stark urban/rural divide.

Delighted to be so wrong! :)

I wasn't expecting THIS strong a yes vote in the more rural areas, but 2015 kind on knocked some sense into me. The rural/urban divide has been amplified in recent years in the media because of things like the US and France. The difference in Ireland is, at 3pm right now I could hop in the car in Dublin and reach any corner of the country in time for a late dinner.

We're a far, far more connected country and typically have a much stronger sense of unity/empathy with each other (despite out endless bickering :D ) than we give ourselves credit for. It must be giving the fundamentalist US zealots and the likes of the Cambridge Analytica offshoots that were each the basis of LoveBoth absolute fits, and trying to create one only turned more and more people against them. There is plenty about Ireland that I moan about, but that is something in this country I am immensely f'king proud of.

    Agree.

I remember when I could not buy a condom such was the tyranny of the church, the same church that protected its child raping priests.

It pleases me to see the people of today are more enlightened and not brainwashed by a church that is a total disgrace and has the arrogance to think they speak for some God.

Jaysis...you are only a step or two away from proposing that if no woman in the worlds wants to get pregnant then they should be raped and locked away until they give birth.

    Laois

    68.4% YES
    31.6% NO

    Clare
    64.3% YES
    35.7% NO

This is looking less and less like the rural/urban issue that the No campaign and indeed many corners of the Irish media were trying to tell us it would be.

    Its more an age/religion thing.

65+ the only age demographic to vote no. Also coincidentally the most religious demographic.

They've to do all the heavy lifting, they get to have the big say. If that seems unfair, well were ye not the ones lecturing us about the tough breaks of biology recently?

We're not running out of population any time soon though, so I wouldn't worry. The only folks who seem concerned about that seem to be unduly concerned about particular populations.

So all the NO voters share the values of the church and the Iona and the UUP and all YES voters share the idiotic values of the Freemasons?

Actually. We share the wonderful values of the Yes vote. ðŸ˜

Pregnant women will be the most powerful members of society after this legislation goes through, having veto powers over human life.

The poster I was responding to wasn't talking about rape. They we're making the case that if a father doesn't want a child aborted he should be getting someone pregnant.

True, though they cracked 40% YES among the over 65s, and 50-64y/o was something like 63-64% which is still very encouraging and higher than I expected in both demographics.
