Its also both baffling and disappointing that the thread seems to be more concerned with potential future men being aborted than they are about the effect this country's abortion laws might have on their wife or daughter.
The only time it seems to be shown concern is when an evil woman might be aborting their child without their permission.

Your life is protected in Ireland. Where in the 13th say that right is not protected while in Ireland.
Christ on a bike if the 13th said it was ok to have an abortion here why are we even having a vote.

So what? The Yes side is one big contradiction. The 12 week offer. Jesus wept.

Why should the woman carrying a BABY be afforded anything more than the BABY she is carrying? 2 equal HUMANS.

Sorry but I, as a living breathing woman, am not of equal worth to a 10 week old zygote the size of a grape. I am far more valuable. I have a boyfriend and a family who love me, and I shouldn't have to take any risks to my health or life unless I want to.
I shouldn't lose any rights and I shouldn't have compromised healthcare because of the contents of my uterus.

While one depends on the other for survival, they cannot be equal.

because men are afforded it, men don't have their healthcare bound by an article in the constitution. Women should have an equal right to life to men.

Probably because they're not equal humans and we want to change the law to reflect this.

You do realise the proposed amendment won't make abortion compulsory?

Not if they're seeking a termination, they don't.
My life is of more value than a 10 week old zygote the size of a grape. My health should not be compromised because of it.

Actual people are more important than potential ones.

Why is your life more valuable? Because you've lived for a few years?

I have stated numerous times I won't be voting this Friday but some of the nonsense being spewed here is making me reconsider that and go ahead and tick that No box.

No, because I'm a born citizen. And I don't think I should lose out on bodily autonomy and my rights because of something the size of a grape.

And as for the bolded, dangling a No vote from yourself as some sort of threat, you can knock yourself out.
I have no doubt that a crisis pregnancy will knock on the door of someone you love some day, because not a single family in this country is untouched.
And when that day comes, you will be glad your wife/sister/daughter/friend can receive adequate treatment because the 8th will (hopefully) be gone.

Some day? I have been through it, I'd wager that I am more experienced in this than you are.

Doubtful. I've had a stillbirth and am currently going through treatment to stop cervical cancer developing, which will stop if I were to accidentally become pregnant.
I'm 27 years old. This should be my choice.

    What's doubtful?

And BTW, there's a very simple thing you can do to prevent accidental pregnancy.

yeah the majority do and will continue to do so. People won't be forced to have abortions if the 8th is repealed.

If the 8th is repealed people will simply have the choice. Women will be entitled to informed consent with regard to treatment during their pregnancies, couples will continue to have children. Unfortunate couples who are dealing with an FFA pregnancy will not be required to travel should they decide to end the pregnancy, they can avail of the termination here and bury the much wanted baby here at home. Those who chose to see it through will remain to have that option. We won't have women or the families of women having to go to the hight court to have their rights to bodily autonomy respected. The sky will not fall in and the world will continue to turn and we'll just be a country that treats it's women a little better.

If you're not voting then you have no say, so why are you here thinking you do?

    Btw. I'm voting No.

Contraception fails. I'm taking every precaution but should I accidentally become pregnant I should not have to gamble my life to gestate a pregnancy.

If contraceptive were 100% effective the amount of unplanned pregnancies would be nil.

I've already said I'm a man, my opinion doesn't matter to a lot of yes campaigners. Do you not see the issue in that?

I didn't mention contraception. If I was in your shoes then sex would be absolutely off the table for however long it is needed.

Not directed at me, however I will answer anyway!
My life is far more important than any 6 or 8 week old embryo. & I can 100% guarantee you that my family, my friends & my partner all think that I am more important than an unknown unborn.
I have responsibilities, people I need to look after, things I need to pay for.

How about you? Are you more important or equal to a 6 week old embryo?

Ah, good old abstinence. The foundation of every healthy, loving, stable relationship.
If it were a few weeks this would be realistic. So far this has gone on for 16 months. Not a long term practical solution.

Regardless, this isn't about me. Women in Ireland today are in circumstances we can't even comprehend. That we don't know or understand.
They shouldn't be forced to see through a pregnancy just to keep a stranger happy.

to be realistic, the only people your opinion actually matter to on most issues is the people in your life who love you. Your opinion doesn't have to matter. You have a right to vote, nobody is trying to take that away from you. The opinion of others that your opinion doesn't matter, doesn't matter either.

    There's no such thing a a 10-week-old Zygote:
How Long Does the Zygote Phase Last?

The period of the zygote is quite brief, lasting for about four days. Around the fifth day, the mass of cells becomes known as a blastocyst. The germinal period will last approximately fourteen days, after which the embryonic period will begin.

The second period of development lasts from two weeks after conception through the eighth week, during which time the organism is known as an embryo. At the ninth week post-conception, the fetal period begins. From this point until birth, the organism is known as a fetus.

My health should not be compromised because of it.

Totally agree, but what if you're healthy and the baby is healthy too, is abortion okay then, as whoever votes Yes is voting to make it legal for any woman to be able to have an abortion up to 12 weeks, for any reason, without restrictions.
Actual people are more important than potential ones.

They are real people. The have heartbeats and can voluntarily move. They're not as developed as say a 24 week fetus, but then a newborn is not as developed as a one year old.

But yet we constantly have to see some women(mainly feminists) say that men should have zero say in this vote as we cannot have kids.

Given that one of the reasons I don't think it should be legal for healthy women to abort healthy babies is because I feel they should accept the responsibility that they have created a baby

Do you believe travelling for abortion should be criminalised?

And what about the women who terminate a pregnancy despite the wishes of the father of the unborn child?
