Obviously, if it was me in that scenario, I would have dumbfounded the assailant with the beauty of my skills in interpretative dance. He would have put down his weapon and given himself up to the Gardai as I showed him how much hurt he was causing through my use of a mournful foxtrot.

The gardai or in particular the detective who fired, didnt ask for this to happen. He didnt wake up and say 'I fancy shooting someone today'.

Wonder what Mark Hennessy thought when he woke up before grabbing the keys of the car.

I would imagine it'll take quite some time before that information comes out (if ever). Phones, social media accounts, email accounts, web history and all that will have to be analysed.

My younger sister was also the victim of an attempted abduction by 2 men in a van in broad daylight a few years ago. Think I posted here about it - guards were less than helpful there aswell.

This is hilarious to read through. Surely this lad should be the target of hate here and not the garda who put a stop to him. Country would be a better place if the garda talked a little less and shot a little more in these situations. Lads go raping and murdering, get locked up and a few years later they are back out and at it. Well this lad won't be and I for one am happy knowing my home town is 1 weirdo less. Exactly. If it turns out this Hennessy fella did abduct and cause serious harm to this woman, which sadly looks very likely, that Garda did a greater justice to her family and to society by killing the b@stard than waiting for the justice system to have their just desserts. There is something about the way this case was reported initially that is bothering me. I heard about the missing woman on the radio news several times yesterday and heard this description repeatedly.

"5ft in height, of slight build with long black hair and brown eyes. When last seen she was wearing a dark coloured jacket, white t-shirt, grey leggings and runners."

As I was driving around south county Dublin and DL-R I listened and kept my eyes out, as while it was unlikely that I'd see her, you never know. But at no point was any mention made of her nationality/skin colour. Pretending to be racially colour blind seems like a particularly stupid move when asking people to be on the lookout for someone and giving an otherwise detailed description. I don't think it would have made a lot of difference in this particular case but it's something that needs to be rectified in future.
