Surely if the new wings are simpler than they should be cheaper to design and make and there should be less aero upgrades throughout the year so all the teams will hopefully benefit from it. I think the bigger rear wings is the most interesting part.

Ironically tighter rules will always benefit the richer teams as they can squeeze the last percentages easier out of it, while open rules let teams bring up creative solutions that might give them an advantage. See the tower wings, that were developed by Tyrell a back marker team, or Brawn with the blown diffusor.

It's a fundamental redesign of the concept, for Ferrari, Mercedes, Red Bull etc; they have enough people that they can easily assign some to concepts for next season. Smaller teams don't have the same resources (ie; people) they have to keep focused on developing the current car for longer. By the time testing rolls around, the big teams have had months of extra development. Even on a relatively aero neutral front wing there will be gains to be had.

Yes that is a good point. Maybe the big teams should not be allowed to do that. Maybe they should only be allowed to start to develop concepts fours months before the next season as then it would be fairer on all teams. Maybe the FIA should have only announced it five or 4 months before the next season. But then I suppose if they did wait until then the teams would be angry because they would have been already developing and designing parts for next seasons car already without knowing they were to be changed and simplified and have spent a lot doing it. So it's a catch 21 really I suppose.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

The amount of politics behind it all is astronomical, yesterday was the last day they can make changes for next season without unanimous backing from the teams. The rumour mill suggests that only 4 teams voted in favour but it passed as the other voting parties also voted in favour. (Liberty, FIA, promoters etc; ). Hence why they pulled the trigger on the changes now instead of waiting.

Personally speaking, I'd have preferred if they leave the regs as they are for the next couple of seasons and concentrate on tackling the more fundamental issues like finance & cost control, and put all their energy on finding the right balance in the formula for 2021. In the mean time, the field spread would continue to decrease and the racing would be good. Australia aside, the racing has been good this season. These changes just feel like an overreaction to Melbourne, would be more logical to make changes to that circuit to improve the opportunity for overtaking.

Indy are still trialing the windscreen, some issues still with back pressure and I believe the driver had to switch to a clear visor to see better.

Clocked 243mph though, which is impressive for the screen.

That may be the case, I think they said one of the best, not to nit pick though.

McLaren are also the only team this year to have both cars reach the chequered flag at every race as well. Before you can be fast, you have to be reliable.

Lets not forget that they don’t have their full package until Barcelona apprently. It will be very interesting if they roll out all their upgrades there. It could be a pretty big step forward for them.

Also on the Indycar above...I love the simplicity of it.

The new rules for F1 for next year are a very welcome addition, simplified aero should help cars follow closely, here is hoping anyway - https://www.bbc.com/sport/formula1/43959302

I thought it was the big rear wing that they got rid of to encourage overtaking? :S

    Ground effect, simples.

Man that Indy car looks nice! The shield looks way better than the halo.

I wonder could there be a hybrid of the 2? So you have the top loop of the halo, maybe thinner, and then no centre beam, slot the screen in there.

Probably not as strong, but sure as hell nicer!

Not bad, I think the materials are different for the Indy screen as well, and also thicker.

No show stoppers though and it was pointed out later that Josef Newgarden had been testing all day without a screen while Scott Dixon who did the last test had been driving a sports car (ie with a screen) before testing the screen and Scott acclimatised a lot quicker.

Interestingly Josef is in favour of the screen once its mandatory for all drivers.

If they can get some cameras mounted on the halo it might make for a good TV picture

There is a slot in the front for it, but its not being used just yet.

Couple of places reporting that Miami City Committee will vote next week on a multi year deal with F1 for a GP on the streets of the city, starting from next year with October mentioned as a possible date

Ferrari should make their livery white, for one race only.

Hehehe. That game badly needs a HD update. My favourite GTA.

Replacing Baku if rumours are to be believed.

I've heard that one alright, seems to have come from a Dutch journo via Bernie & Flavio. I'm going to assume it's inaccurate. Why would they want to cancel their contract, they're getting some great press from the race because of the last couple of years headline generating races.
