You might as well do something to develop some local employment up there anyway.

There's a real dearth of success to be fair. A bit of a rugby famine should we say.

The wall idea is brilliant and it can help console the poor locals. Get the IRFU to fund a "work scheme" and we can keep the chaps distracted, just get them to build walls around the place, tell them it's infrastructure.

Can someone with more knowledge enlighten me. he seems highly rated but hasn't essentially achieved a lot..?

(by a lot I mean silverware)

    edit: probably did with weegees?

edit2: "we will be announcing at least one further addition to the coaching team in the near future to ensure that we have a strong unit in place in advance of pre-season." - gerrid?

Lol. Just when you thought things couldn't get any worse.

Did Leinster suffer for winning the secondary cup? I can't remember the last time that Ulster made the QFs of the Champions Cup. Its a tough competition now - ask Connacht.

"We have the coach lined up, signed and agreed, our number one candidate, so we're obviously very happy within Ulster and the IRFU," operations director Bryn Cunningham said.

    I heard:
    Spoof spoof spoof spoof spoof

"Scottish Rugby Union this morning confirmed he will depart his current role with Scotland in mid-January of 2019."

Sure that's what you want. A no nonsense reply, putting the finger of blame squarely where it should reside. :D

The 42 seems to have crashed. Thousands of Ulster fans descending upon it en masse? :)

Edit: It's back now. Was getting the equivalent of a 404 on every link for a while there.

Confirmed. No mention of January in that article.

Reported in multiple other outlets that he's not arriving until January.

I'm sorry, I genuinely laughed out loud.

Here, take Carbery or Byrne. You pick. No hard feelings. I actually feel bad for you lot.

But that is far outweighed by how funny this is

    I see it:
The SRU say McFarland will serve a nine-month notice period before leaving his job with Scotland under head coach Gregor Townsend, but The42 understands he will be free to leave for Belfast as soon as a replacement is appointed.
    Sounds more like it...

    No deal, hand over Sexton.

It is funny they left off the January start on the Ulster site.

Maybe they'll send Peel off in tribute to replace him

If we have signed another coach who misses half a season we are fcuking clowns. This better not be our guy.

    It's unbelievable. It's actually un******g believeable.

He may be the right guy, but we are probably going to waste ANOTHER season.

Im actually stunned we have done this again.

Id say There's a 99.9% chance he'll be with Ulster at the end of the Scottish summer tour

    Right so a thought...

Ulster didn't want to announce this for a couple of weeks, and maybe that was because they were giving the SRU time to get a replacement in so there would be none of this 9 month notice business

Gave them time to get Carl Hogg sorted for summer tour.

That's not much time for Scotland to have found a replacement. I'd imagine it would be more likely that they'll secure someone either late in the summer (and release McFarland for Ulster pre-season maybe) or around the AIs. I can't imagine there would be many coaches available to take over so soon.

Unless he comes from with the existing Scottish system in which case I think the usual rules won't apply and the clubs will accommodate a step-up where possible. I agree that before summer tour seems optimistic though.

Seems they already have lined up Carl Hogg who just finished his contract at Worcester.
