Cant find much on him pre france.

EDIT: Sorry yes Portadown youth trained. Maybe he went to a School too but not sure.

Question... maybe we have too many back rows now to give them all a chance?

Yes & No, factor in our injury/ACL record. There all young backrowers and will take time to get to this physicality/level. You'd hope they can slowly be filtered/rotated in. I'd rather have to many and edge out the NIQ's to other positions.

    We have:
    Murphy
    Rea
    Timmoney
    Reidy
    Coetzee

In theory we have coming through:
    6 Rea jr/Montgomery
    7 Hall/agnew
    8 Jones/Dunleavy/Allison
    Possibly missed some potential.

Whats the view on Jones after a season in Ulster?

I hear ya regards injuries and those goddamn knees, but let's say we have 5 spots on match day for backrow/locks if a sub
7 extra backrows? this year has by far been or worst with backrows and availability and we have recruited Nordi so if we didn't use them by now will we ever? I can't see many bar Nordi and I guess you could call Hendo one, being away to Ireland camp either.

This is also assuming that A's will have a fresh new crop coming in too.

David McCann would be another with potential, still at school though and there is someone I've heard called McCartney who is meant to be promising. Never seen him play though...or not to my knowledge.

Honestly? He frustrated me a little from what I've seen. He's a big lump of a lad and could bring more. That's probably harsh and you'll soon realise I'm harsh with opinion.

Injuries, Ireland Call ups, Academy players realistically won't play back to back. Keep in mind this weekend we're pretty much at bare bones and could be playing 3 opensides. With all the different positions also, I reckon game time will be available. We've always been guilty of poor rotation and then parachuting people in, never to be seen again. I'm sure if we asked the academy at this age would they be happy 2 or 3 games to develop with a back row of murphy/coetzee they'd eat your arm off.

Not sure there will be many backrowers this intake? Agnew/Allison.

Yes sadly, we always seem like boys against men. Seem to lack strength/power. But realistically these are still very young men. This is partly the reason I think Rea Snr will do even better this season after another Pre-season and having year already behind him to adjust to this level.

Was thinking that, was only for Ulster he was on the Blindside.
Is Rea jr a Blindside? was impressed with his ball carrying. Could do a job of the rear of a scrum.

Schalk van der Merwe is presumably gone at the end of the season? Yet another dud signing. I know he's on a two year deal but I imagine Ulster will come to an agreement.

Rumour or quoted? Paddy Ryan out of contract at Waratahs worth a punt?

Looks like they're fielding a weakened team

If Shanahan can put in a performance we might.

But realistically it's a bonus point win or nothing for Ulster.

Yeah, even a LBP for Edinburgh will put it out of reach completely unfortunately. And they'll know exactly what they need to do ahead of their game against Glasgow. So a TBP win for Ulster and nothing at all for Edinburgh is what Ulster need.

Glasgow have put out a strong team v Edinburgh. Game on!

glasgow have gone pretty much full strength and edinburgh have definitely rested players, starting with a strong bench.

if ulster can turn it on, it could be a good day for them

    Ulster fans rooting for Glasgow.....
Glasgow do need a performance as Scarlets drilled them last time out.

Interesting on off the ball. Suggesting that Ulster might be better having a caretaker in for a year as a few international head coaches could become available after the World Cup.

Maybe in normal circumstances this might be true but Ulster needs stability right now, we've been dicked about quite enough already.

We cannot have another half-baked season.

Ferris was saying even just them appointing a caretaker and explicitly saying that they'll review things at the end of the world cup would be some stability. Or appoint someone local like Soper and give him a shot while they assess wider options.

It would go a huge way to helping with recuitment at least.
