We signed Jordan Matthews to a 1 yr contract

Also signed OL Luke Bowanko and TE Troy Niklas yesterday

I like the Matthews pickup, was actually looking at him as a potential target but thought maybe we weren't going for it due to depth.
If he gets into the right system and clicks with his QB, he's a no.1 receiver talent. I could see Britt or Mitchell being hurt by this move though.

On the Cooks deal, for a one year deal it was sensational work by the Pats.

Gave up 31st pick overall to get him.
Paid him $780k for the year.
Got back the 23rd pick overall for him

When you put it like that, it was a great pickup!
His ability to stretch the field may be missed though.

ESPN just can't help themselves with the Patriots

    http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/23228840/tom-brady-new-england-patriots-yet-commit-playing-2018-season
New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady still has not committed to playing in 2018, even though people who know him believe he will be back for the coming season, league sources told ESPN on Wednesday.

The lack of any official word from Brady, either privately or publicly, has left some to admit that, while they do believe he will play in 2018, they cannot say that for sure.

"My money would be on him playing football for the foreseeable future, but what goes on away from the football field, I don't know," one source told ESPN. "I don't know."

There's no question that Brady wants to play football, but he turns 41 in August, wants to spend more time with his family, and there are people around him who would rather see him retire, sources told ESPN. More on page

Rumors spreading like wildfire and never though Breer would get sucked in which has done so a lot lately

Am I the only one who really doesn't care if he retires or not at this point. He retires we move up in the draft and grab his replacement and build around him. We have decent offensive weapons and have enough draft picks to fix up that defense a tad. Wont be the same Superbowl contender without Tom but meh we all know the day is coming. Whether this year or next no biggie.

He stays happy days, He goes we find his replacement. Its that simple really.

If he was going to retire I'd have preferred that he retired last year so we'd have given Jimmy G some time.

I don't think that McDaniels would have bothered staying if Brady was retiring. I also don't think NE have a shot at any QB this year to replace Brady. (Replacing the irreplaceable). Has Brett Favre officially retired yet?

Last year we had a chance at a another Superbowl after winning Superbowl 51 though so why would he retire. We need to drop the Jimmy G lust. It was never meant to be with Jimmy.

Anyways more fule on the fire

Got to love Gotham Chopra throwing Fuel on the Dumpster fire that is offseason news:

For those who don't know Chopra he is the guy who made Tom Vs Time and a very good friend of Brady. And this response by Chopra was in response to Albert Breer's tweet:

We are playing with house money with Brady.
Remember Brady being done, Bills way no longer working when “They’re not good anymore”?
Plenty of writers have creamed themselves over the years, wanting to be that “one” that “callled it”.
Eventually someone will be right, ESPN will of course hype that person and ignore the ones that guessed so badly.

These stories gain traction cause 31 teams and their fans want it to be over. Sick of losing, sick of the Pats sticking around this long. Of course it’ll end. But it just means you drop back into the pack awaiting an amazing year or a true franchise QB.

As I said, house money. It’s a crazy run. And I still envisage Brady, Gronk on the field in 2018 and another shot at the SB. Crisis, right :)

11 - 5 seaso losing to texans, jags, colts, packers vikings. Just an uneducated prediction.

I'd be disappointed with anything worse that 12-4, I'd be predicting 14-2 as very likely.
Easiest schedule I can remember for a few years.

5 prime time games in first 9 weeks. Bye in week 11

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,012 ✭✭✭BizzyC

    I'd take a guess at 13-3
I think we lose 1 divisional game this season, and we'll lose 2 between Texans, Jags, Steelers, Vikings, Packers

Did anyone hear Gronk yesterday when asked about his status for OTA's?

He's starting to annoy me now, it looks like he's doing his best to get traded.

Gronk doing Gronk things tbh. And it doesn't really bother me, despite everything he's very professional once he actually does get back. Added to that he's been in the league now for 8 seasons and he suffered through a lot. You often hear of former, star professionals out of the league say that they never went to OTA's later in their career as well, which shows the importance of them.
He's only trying to create himself some more profile for when he does retire, and please god that won't be for another few years.

What he is doing is keeping himself in the news. This all matters for endorsements. The more talk about him the bigger the endorsement deals.

He's smarter than he looks, or modern testing would indicate....

    Giants looking to trade Flowers.....
Hasn't been the best LT in the league by any means, but I wonder if Scar could work his magic to get some production out of him.
Only 23 years old and a good physical specimen, might be worth a punt for a 4th round pick or thereabouts...

5m cap hit in 2018 and 12m in 2019 his contract would need working on. I don't think the Pats are in any position for any more trades at this point with only 14m left in the cap and rookies to be signed and Tom Brady possibly wanting a contract.

As expected Gronk confirmed today he will be back

I know they're complete horsesh*t, but I'd be happy if any of the NFL mock drafts came true..
They all either have us taking 2 OL first round, or 1 OL & 1 LB...

Can't wait for the Patriots not to draft an LT in the 1st and/or not package all our picks to get a Top 10 pick to use on a QB so the talking heads can slate BB for the next couple of months.

Harold Landry and Connor Williams and I'll be very happy tonight.

Jackson I can feel it in my bones he will fall to 23 or we move up a couple of slots for him.....

an odd one no? Slipped all the way down, and then nothing. Michel looks the real deal alright, seems the Eagles were keen on him at 32.

Interesting picks last night. Didn't expect us to pick a RB in the first round even though Michel is very talented. Presume both picks in the 2nd round will be spent on the defence although a QB might be in the conversation too.

I think we look to take a DE or CB and take a look at one of Lauletta or Falk, if they're still about.
