You are prime example of someone claiming the incident to be racist; irrespective of the facts of the case.
Do you even know the story? There was no owner there. It was a Starbucks. It was an employee who called the police. But why let facts get in the way of your outrage.

Proper order. Close them down and don’t dare open em until the staff learn

Everyone loves training days, they’re days when you get to sit around and listen to some geriatric who’s been paid loads to talk shįte about something you couldn’t care less about (all the while playing on your phone) and getting paid for it.

    Who gives a fcuk.

I watched the news from America about this last night. The 2 guys were asked to leave the premises and refused.

    Manager calls the cops.

The same would happen here if someone refused to leave a premises when asked. Think it is a public order offence.

Nothing racist about it. The two guys were being dicks.

They were also giving the cops slack about working for poor wages.

Two little Lord Fauntleroys who got called out for their dickish behaviour but are rescued as other Middle-Class activists come to their rescue, labelling it all as something else.

They'll get a great pay out to make it all go away, the activists will have a cause of the week to fight for, the only real loser is the Asian girl on minimum wage who lost her job for following policy and not putting up with sh1t.

Starbucks is facing a fresh onslaught of criticism after a black man was allegedly denied access to a Los Angeles shop's bathroom as he was not a paying customer – despite a non-paying white patron being given the entry code to the toilet. This comes video emerged after two black men were arrested in another Starbucks franchise recently. Starbucks Corp today announced it would close 8,000 US stores in the afternoon of May 29 to train nearly 175,000 staff members on how to prevent racial discrimination in stores.

Now, why not just directly question the employee(s) responsible for giving access to one customer and not the other? Why not deal with things on a case by case basis as they arise. This is the same company that discontinued their Christmas cups out of fear of offense. 8,000 shops **** down to train 125,000 workers because a literally a handful of eejits went viral. Gotta be woke!

    OP has messed this up.

    Real story:

2 black guys sat down in a Starbucks in Philadelphia. They didn't order anything. They said they were waiting for a friend. Starbucks called the cops on them. The cops ordered them to leave. The two guys said that this was unreasonable. Friend finally shows up (he's white btw). Friend says "that's it, we're leaving". Cops say "too late, they were given their chance" and arrest them.

A boycott of Starbucks is announced on social media. Starbucks fires the employee who called the police and close 8,000 outlets in order to facilitate racial training for staff. Racial training could basically be summed up with "Google the name Rosa Parks"

Why do Americans call the police for the smallest of things? Particularly when the police in America are heavily armed, paranoid, and heavy handed.

    Because of America's siege mentality

oh wait no, sorry , he's a self hating black man ...

Some people just never want to see anything as racist.
As I said before, racism today isn't burning crosses and whites only signs.
A large part of it is being under extra suspicion because of the color of your skin.
Instinctively this is completely alien if you look the same as the people who are in control of a country.

I'm quite confident saying the owner wouldn't have called the police if they were white.

And some people just want to see Racism where there is none.

How can a normal, rational, individual tell the difference? Should we even TRY to tell the difference or just jump on the outrage bandwagon?

I've put down my thoughts on why I think it probably was just a normal "toilets are for customer use only" situation. You can see those kind of signs all over the world. You've never been to a foodcourt that has signs up saying "seating area is for paying customers only" or similar?

Only in America would asking someone to leave an establishment because they aren't a paying customer be seen as obviously racist.

I am quite confident that you are just looking for something that isn't there, in this case.

"Some people just never want to see anything as racist."

No. I know Racism when I see it. I even understand that sometimes Racism can be subtle or even unconscious, to an extent.

    This isn't that.

In reality here somebody working a low paying job at a f'ing Starbucks has lost their job because of bandwagon jumping eejits like yourself.

More than likely they were told by higher ups to ask people who are using seats and tables but are not buying anything to leave. That's pretty normal in cafes and restaurants. Trust me.

I'm sure you think you know better.

Personally, I think it's pretty sexist to put a woman out of her job because she was just following company policy. I'm sure you totally agree. Look, I'll use your own logic to convince you. I am not a woman and I've asked customers to leave an establishment and called the cops when they wouldn't. I didn't have to leave my job. This woman did the same as me but she had to leave her job. Sexism? You must agree.

    Starbucks' coffee is muck!

Agreed. They're overpriced garbage. If you're lucky you'll get atleast a half cup of coffee. Then the rest will be full of foam.

Agreed. The problem is that with their eternal outrage and determination to cry Racism, sexism, etc at the drop of the hat for the least little thing it diminishes real complaints of racism, etc.

The Modern Left are the Boy the cried wolf.

Pretty straight forward case of racism this. Calling the cops on 2 lads waiting for the mate is insane, especially in the US, with there trigger happy cops, who have reputation of shooting African Americans for no good reason.

Apparently, this kind of thing happens to African Americans a lot in the US, the police being called on them for no reason and them being arrested or even worse being killed for no reason. Its pretty insane over there sometimes.

    **EDIT**
A lot of people saying they were asked to leave by the staff. No they weren't, the cops were just called on them. They are not being charged btw, due to lack of evidence of them trepassing.

It should be noted that general Star Bucks policy is that they are ok with people hanging around for age. Look at there policy of being a "3rd place". Also, multiple people who were there, said they were waiting just as long.

Source? Because the police commissioner, who is black btw, stated very directly that they were asked to leave several times.

Edit: star bucks policy is toilets are for customers. That's why this kicked off.

But your facts conflict with what Wes knows:

    Wes vs The Police Commissioner?
I think I'll go with the Commissioner on this one ............. unless he is a racist too. Can blacks be racist against other blacks?

Whichever narrative is true there is one important lesson in this story that people on the left should be concerned with.

The fact that it your a low wage employee you have no rights in the USA and you can be sacked immediately even though you were following procedure to improve a megacorps image.

Depends on the "left" classic left or Labour types were for the working man, working conditions and societal issues like affordable housing, healthcare etc. Think the UK and Irish Labour

The most vocal moderns "leftists" or "liberals" tend to be the far or regressive left so it's all about getting uppity cause someone accidentally used the wrong gender pro noun or whatever

The modern Left is a drift from its past traditions and purpose.

I think as so many of the Left today have become well to do they have drifted in to trendy activism, much of the worst excesses were lifted so to the ideologues become dominant, usually from well to do backgrounds.

The Left todays is eating itself and I wouldn't be surprised if it fades away

One guy asked to use the bathroom, and went back to waiting after he was denied the code. Seems a bit insane to call the cops for someone who asked for a code.

The cops were not called because they asked for a code. The cops were called because the two dudes were asked to leave by staff and refused.

Yep[. And as for closing for a day for training, it's a good PR tactic. I do think after something like this you need to make sure staff know how to behave. It doesn't mean you need a full day with every store closed though.
However this is a serious issue for starbucks. It's really hit their image. Closing for a day to insure staff get training is a very good way of making sure training is given and making sure the public know starbucks is doing something.

Ok, I was wrong they were asked to leave, according to the police commissioner. Whether the staff did that or not is another story, but that is what they told the police.

Starbucks needed a wake-up call. They got too big for their britches. It was just a matter of time before they got called on some behaviour towards their customers that would blow back in their face. They have killed many small mom & pop javahouses in America. I am sitting at this moment in a different javahouse (using their free wifi hotspot) that I believe has more atmosphere and better coffee than Starbucks. We are surrounded by Starbucks stores (3 within easy walking distance), and they have that corporate feel. I like to relax in javahouses, and corporate atmospheres are too much like work.

All of which is irrelevant with regards the matter at hand.
