There's no blanket increases lads, it varies by company.

There's an insurance company out there that doesn't load at 8 points? There's more chance of me having a fling with January Jones.

Any body would’ve done what I did. So anyone familiar with these things? I’ve never had a previous issue with speed.

If my pregnant wife were bleeding and in pain, i'd be doing a damn sight faster than "creeping over the limit"....I really don't know who wouldn't.

There comes a point though where the speed will be unacceptable and a bigger danger than the emergency in the car. It's no good to anyone if you go slamming into a wall at 100KPH in a 50.

3 points for 9km with adjustments sounds like a lot.

    What gets you 1 point?

So doing 69 in a 60 zone is the same fine and points as what I got last year doing 150 in a 120 zone on the motorway?

And yes my insurance went up by €100 because of the 3 points.

You still have to drive safely.

In this case I think it's better to call an ambulance that can negotiate speed , traffic and traffic lights whilst the patient is receiving medical attention.

Don't see how the OP can appeal it. 69kmph in a 60kmph zone is more than "creeping" over the limit. It's 15% over.

Where did I say anything about 8 points? All I'm saying is that some insurers will load at lower points than others

And Christina Hendricks is better :p

Had something similar OP. Appealed it in court. Agreed to pay €100 and got no points.

Depends on the judge, though the one I got would be considered a hard enough one.

Have never had points or fines before which helped.

Original offence was 61 in a 50 zone in a small rural town at 2 am. Got €80 and 2 points originally.

You would be great to have around in an emergency.

Of course I can appeal! I was asking if anyone has experience in this situation, not an opinion from someone you divides 9 by 60 gets 15 and everything in this world is black and white.

Try dealing with an emergency in real life.

Was no letter with fine. I did read that allowance of 10% speed limit is given plus or minus 2km/ph that would be 60km Road 10% plus 2km is 68km. If that’s the truth, I was 1km over what’s allowed. But that’s not the point.

    it's not

TBH try dealing with driving down the Howth Road needing a piss.

Thanks for that. So it’s worth going to court. Mine was 3:30pm, but on bank holiday and clear roads. Same as you, driving 18years continuously without any ever issue. I genuinely hate speeding and dangerous drivers, but emergencies are different.

No! For the third time, appeal directly and look to have the fine cancelled in the first instance.

Was this a GATSO or a Garda ticket? If Garda I’d pop into the station first with the letter and see what they say. I’ve heard anecdotally of people having it squashed.

It's not as grey as adding 10% to a speed limit and then chucking on another couple. Why not throw on 3 and you wouldn't have been speeding at all?

    Take a night off ffs

Garda. Went to station earlier, Guard said he could do nothing. He said he’d fight it, but wasn’t sure what would be outcome. He said if they had be stopped me in that situation “it’s a Garda escort to hospital doors, and the speed is a lot higher than I was going”

I'd just like to say +1 to both January Jones and Christina Hendricks.

I'd like to be the +1 to that particular dynamic duo too.

No, you appeal to have it cancelled.

    https://www.garda.ie/en/Roads-Policing/Fixed-Charge-Notices/Cancelling-Fixed-Charge-Notices.html

An application will be considered from a person who was bringing someone to hospital due to a medical emergency where it is believed the life of the person is at risk, while an application from a person travelling to a medical appointment will be refused.

there has to be written somewhere on the ticket where you can send appeal to.
Probably a superindent in charge of these tickets.
write a letter, include anything in your favour. should be cancelled.
but of course, remember that Superindents may be afraid of cancelling anything these days, so be ready to go to court & fight the case there.
    the judge will listen

Depends where you're driving i suppose.

Even the casual observer would concur, that where there an ability to do so, pretty much nobody drives at the limit.

100kph is not the "extreme" speed the RSA would have you believe.

    Again depends where you're living.

Average response times for where I live are 1 hour.
Time to the hospital at speed limit speed is 30mins. A damn sight faster if I floor it.
My point still stands. Unless it was a very minor thing, then it would be really stupid to wait.

You can appeal. Have had one in the last couple of years (since the whole controversy) cancelled as had been called to come urgently to be with somebody close to death. Sent this with confirmation from the home that this was the case and it was cancelled. Received a letter saying something like you have no further liability in this matter.

Are there speed vans actually out in 60 zones?

Of course. All hot spots for car accidents I am sure
