Anyone know what’s up with Shane?

Strange to see him not contending much in 2018.

Stats seem to show he’s struggling with the flat stick and around the greens

One of the boys a few pints and all that ****e, could be because him and the wife have a small child, plusses and minuses about his approach, but golfers are athletes now, and he isn't. Probably just be left behind unless they play links golf every week, handy player, not a top level player

Hot and cold putter, more cold than hot for quite a while. Could be wrong but always get the impression he enjoys himself rather than works himself too much. Good luck to him but he’s not reaching his potential for sure.

Bit of a sweeping statement there considering he won a WGC and came second in a US open on a courses that wouldn't be considered links courses.....

He blew hot and cold last year trying to fly over and back too much, new baby, trying to balance family life with playing the PGA tour, in hindsight, I think he should have played more in Europe.
This year he has moved lock stock & barrel to the US with his Mrs and kid in order to make a go of it, hardly the "one of the boys few pints" approach.
That said he does appear to be really struggling to adjust, but there's a lot that goes on behind the scenes that we have no idea about.

He is a very streaky putter, when he putts well he will contend. I am no golf coach, but off the tee and the rest of his short game are comfortably top 50 standard, if he was more consistent as a putter he would be looking at majors imho

That lob he played at Firestone on 18 still gives me goosebumps

Anyone any feel for what Shane is up to - at least last time out he was T14 - and that is a serious improvement.

When is he playing next - like he is not playing this week.

Why isn't he playing more - has he full playing rights ? (imagine he has with win in 2015)

He is playing next weekend in the pairs event in New Orleans with Harrington.
He has his schedule on his website to if you want to have a look what he is planning.

He was on offf the ball last week, he was due to play in America last weekend but came home because his wife and daughter were and he is playing a lot over the next few months.

He made a good point and his results would emphasis it, he is not going to be a Kuchar producing great results every event, he will have a streak at some stage which makes his year and that’s just how he is.

Plus, he couldn’t care what people think!

Ok so a heavy run from end of April all the way to The Open ("British") .
He seems to have taken not being in Masters as a natural break.

yea he said something funny about Kuch not hitting a bad shot...EVER!
he was playing a game with him and watched as Kuch pulled a shot left, he was leaning over looking at it the way you do when you have pulled one offline and then it lands 15 foot left of the hole!

Maybe it has nothing to do with anything but he's after getting in horrible shape recently. Had shed a lot over the year but has put it all back on, and even more.

Have you weighed him a few times over the past few years?

Whilst I do think that really the top sports people should be in good shape in order to perform at their best.........

    I don't care.....

It is not for me or anyone else to comment about their size and people who do should really get a life. Talk about his skill or lack of it, but leave anything personal out of it as it is nobody business except the individual in question.

What kind of a retort is this?

    Shape /= weight

Such a decent bloke and very honest when he talks. Life in Florida seems good, hard to see him ever move home!

Yeah, that'll depend heavily on success in the US, if he can sustain PGA tour status year on year its hard to see any reason to come back to Europe.

Good interview, but he seems perhaps a little too laid back, he's waiting for his game to click rather than chasing it.
Who am I to say that's a bad thing though?

I really don't like the criticism of sports people because they are laid back.

Take Shane for instance. Sure he could be more "focused" or "driven" in his persona when doing interviews, practicing etc. But you can't say with any certainty that this would make him a better golfer. In fact if it goes against his natural disposition it may even have a negative effect.

The guy is ranked in the top 80 in the world, seems to have a very balanced view on life and is enjoying being a newly wed and a new father. I think he's doing ok.

sure he is probably a bit more laid back and approachable than others, but I don't think he is waiting for anything. Sure he said in the interview how much more accessible golf s in Florida and he is out on the course a lot more than he was when based here.
He also said that he realises he aint gonna be a winner every week and will have purple patches.

...He is occasionally in my sister's pub in Florida, and anyone that talks to him says he is a very down to earth and nice guy...On a normal night he would sign a dozen autographs and a couple of photos...I've met him a handful of times and he is always polite and courteous... He has confessed to planning to live in Flordia long term unless he loses playing status...Don't blame him, it's an amazing place lol...

Conditioning would have to play a part you would imagine given the heat in some of the locations that they play, the pressure at which they are operating at. Surely the better conditioned you the less likely you are to make mistakes from tiredness alone.

Ah now I don't think Shane is showing any signs that he is suffering from tiredness during rounds. It's not like he's one desert away from a mobility scooter.
He only needs to walk around at a leisurely pace for a few hours. He has a caddie to carry his bag and there are refreshments available at every tee box at that level.

No amount of conditioning will make you immune to heat having some form of effect on you.

    read my opening line again.

I am 100% with you on that.

but that wasn't my point at all, was it?

Politically correct garbage. If the bloke is not motivated to keep himself in shape, then we are perfectly entitled to criticise. It's a failing which hinders his chances of reaching the top, same as poor putting or iron play. So quit with the fake sensitivity.

Its not fake and I am far from sensitive. I really couldnt give a toss what anybody does in their personal life. PC I am not. If anything I am about as far from PC as Donald Trump is.

Its no different to chicks watching fashion shows to see who is getting married to who and what they are wearing etc etc...... I have no interest.

I will watch the sport, from the practice ground to the post round interview. Off the course I really have no interest.

I have had ample opportunity over the last 15+ years to meet any of the worlds top golfers... but I am content just watching them play their sport.

I'm not criticising him 'personally' - I'm two stone overweight myself. I just think it's regrettable that someone with a gift, someone who could be Top 20 in the world at their chosen profession, doesn't make the most of that talent for reasons well within their control.

Point to the evidence that shows if he was more "in shape" he would be in the worlds top 20
