Can you tell me where in PJ's single text message of 10 words you were able to completely and totally understand his attitude to women to such an extent that you are happy that he is losing his livelihood?

    1. He joined-in in the conversation.
    2. He is not losing his livelihood.

Trevor Brennan would be an example of someone losing their livelihood - he got a life ban from rugby.

If I joined in a conversation about racism does that make me a racist?

Lets try and be serious and logical here. PJ said this and this only
"There was a lot of spit roast last night."

And you are able, from this, to understand his attitude to women in general? All women, this 10 word text message reveals absolutely all there is to know about his character?

Interesting that the contracts were 'revoked'. Clearly the IRFU believe that there was a breach there. One would assume that they had strong legal advice that this is the case.

About racism or being in favour of racism?

Please explain what you earnestly believe is the culture that needs to be stamped out.

There is a culture that is being stamped out currently:

    https://twitter.com/eaamalyon/status/923121311248977921

There was a post on reddit recently about someone trying to start a rugby team in a university over in the States and they were told by the university that they wouldn't get support because they did not want any 'rugby culture' on campus.

This has never really been a problem in Ireland. But that's how rugby is perceived even in areas where it is hardly played.

The other culture is a general awful attitude towards women amongst some men, which some people seem to think is acceptable because it is common amongst people (I assume) they know. Whereas in reality there should be divergence in the standards we set for our own behaviour and how widespread we believe that behaviour is.

If we are going to have a debate on the morality of what they did based on what we know, it's going to be very subjective. I would say at the very least they showed a lack of respect and care for someone that was apparently a guest in PJ's house. If a distraught girl leaves your house you should probably ask her what's up and talk to her, maybe follow up with a call etc., Particularly if you see some blood and she was in your bedroom. If I felt innocent in that situation, I would be out to visit the girl for a chat and to apologise before there was any escalation and even if their was I would feel like it's the right thing to do. I don't think this happened with the other infamous threesome.

I'm not concerned about anyone's sexual proclivities.

Jackson didn't see anyone leave upset and Harrison brought her home. What else do you expect to be done?

You see this would be more relevant if last night you had a black person in your room with other friends and they left some blood on your bed and you weren't bothered to call them or visit or drop them home yourself.

Disgraceful decision by the IRFU/Ulster. The players have suffered a total breach of their right to privacy. Now compounded with losing their job.

If Bank of Ireland and Vodafone have been as involved in this as its been made out I swear I'm closing my bank accounts with them, selling the few shares I have and changing phone providers. Complete and utter hypocrisy from them

Was there not blood from her laceration? I would expect him to drop her home to ask her if she was ok in that case.

Yeah, we are all top racists.

Yes, he was in a group conversation that referred to women being sluts. He could always have said nothing at all. He also was involved in sexual activity where the woman was none to happy with how she was treated immediately after it (regardless of the verdict of the court).

Ah, so the context of the text message is important? (I agree with you here if so)

Maybe things have changed, but I always see my guests to the door and often to their cars. I don't think I've ever outsourced that job to another guest.

And with that, both of us are deserving of losing our jobs.

That is the logic that jm08 presented, and you appear to be defending.

And now we are in a conversation which has done just that.

Do we both hand in our notice on Monday morning? Also worth considering that the complainant in the case used the term 'slutty' in a private message to her friend. Also a sackable offence?

Its to do with their attitude to women (that they are there to be spit roasted).

So why was Gilroy not fired?

Do you really need an excuse to leave Vodafone? ;)

Regret of what? That she had been used perhaps?

The context here is clearly hypothetical. There was nothing hypothetical about the conversation the lads had.

But I really don't understand the continued focus on their conversation. There's a wider attitudinal problem that is only reinforced by the conversations.

    I despair at this thread.

Even Jackson and Olding in their public statements this afternoon have accepted that their behaviour was unacceptable, and accepted the IRFU decision to fire them as a result. They are now behaving with some dignity and maturity.

If they accept their actions were unacceptable and accept the IRFU firing them as a result, then I don't understand why others in this forum are still trying to excuse their behaviour.

Yes context is important but your whole argument is predicated on them being fired for their WhatsApp involvement which I think is not true.

They showed a complete lack of respect for their injured female guest at the very least, the fact that they boasted about it later is only slightly relevant.

I don't know about you but I liked to be judged for how I treat people not what I say.

Gilroy wasn't out with them which suggests that maybe he has a better lifestyle. Asking them that question suggests that this is a normal night out for the 2 lads and their attitude to women.

I've been to countless house parties in my early 20s and if the house owner was even still awake when I was leaving I'd be surprised if they acknowledged me on the way out the door.

This wasn't a dinner party like.

Also, Jackson thought the blood was menstrual and didn't mention it to her because he didn't want to embarrass the girl.
