People are saying this isn't a big deal, but I think it is. A friend of mine at university was accused of selling drugs in a Dublin pub. She was absolutely mortified and it was clear that the manager was just making trouble. I mean it's certainly defamation of character. Depending on the severity of the slander I find it hard to believe people would just move on.

It is not slander. It is only defamation if someone other than the person referred to hears it.

In other words all the bar staff who must be told that a certain person is to be refused entry for (insert reason here).

Society needs to take the power from these publicans and make they as accountable as any shop keeping. They are basically just a glorified centra manager. People have a duty..all of us . To drive this shift and clip their wings to the level of all other shop keepers.

I think you should take the first steps in this revolution and name the pub.

It IS an injustice. Admittedly not a very big one but it's still a case of the staff barring someone because they claimed he caused trouble. I would be incensed if I was mistakenly accused of being some scumbag brawler and barred for an establishment no matter how crappy the establishment was or how little the ban impacted my life.

It isn't really but if it makes you feel better keep saying it is...; )

At least it didn't take the landlord 800 years to get rid of him

If he was honest, ''cop on to yourself''....

Don’t get it. There was countries all over Europe sailing around the world taking over places so if it wasn’t the British it would most likely have been the French or the Dutch but they were all hardy just gonna sail past an undefended land mass on their doorstep full on mud farmers to go to other places. France, Belgium, Portugal, Spain , Holland, Britain, Germany were are in the colonial business. Wake up. It’s worked out much better than it could have.

It seems to be a way of life for people to sue these days.

Your opening post OP sounds like there is doubt on your part.
You say that the staff and landlord don't have proof.

Where does proof come into it if you are innocent, why do you need to introduce proof.

I don't understand what you're saying about your being from the UK, what bearing does that have.

They made a ridiculous claim. I stated that repeatedly. Proof is to decribe anything to back up their claim. You are desperately picking at non existent holes here.

    Solicitor running a tad late?

The solicitor though. How did you get on?

So tell the truth about the solicitor and the story. Have you made it up? If so then fair play for the commitment and living on the thread since you opened it.

I am waiting to see if they will acknowledge that it wasn’t me on Friday. That’s all I want. Then we have closure. Until then I will not be speaking to the solicitor. I know he is open to 7 most evenings as I’ve used him for other day to day stuff before.
I also have friends and family who are solicitors but generally I have my own guy for dealing with my business.

So you lied when you said you had an appointment tonight?

I rang him and he said to drop in. It isn’t unheard of for me to do that post six as he is about 10 mins from my house.

It is an amazing coincidence that the exact same thing word for word happened to another poster in another thread.

It is possible that harry Bailey esq was taking the proverbial in the other thread. That's the way I took it.

They need proof in a defamation case. He’s saying it was prejudiced because of his ethnicity. I’m dubious on the second case.

However he can sue, despite what people here think.

Only 2 legal reasons you can be refused entry or service is if you are too drunk or have caused problems on the premises before. Unfortunately the onus is on you too prove innocence in both cases. You got to love legal loopholes

So a known local drug dealer with a history of violence comes into the bar. He's sober and hasnt been in the bar before. I'm LEGALLY obliged to serve him? Nonsense.
Even if said guy comes in, behaves impeccibly and tips me generously, you will lose local custom because you serve that 1 guy. This is why landlords wont serve said guy
