I couldn't understand why Galway didn't go man on man when the Dubs went down to 14. Galway carried the ball all the time and never kicked any fast ball to comer who is a serious player.

As regards the showdown, it will really be a dog fight to see who gets the win. I think you guys have been impressive all throughout the league but I expect us to be well focused for this one. It really has the making of a great battle

That's the thing - there is a very valid argument that Mayo were not taking the Galway threat seriously the last 2 years (even if it was stupid to not do so last year!). This year, I really think Mayo will be completely focussed on Galway and not really looking beyond that until they get by Galway. This is why I think Mayo will probably win. I think there is one more year in this Mayo team and beating Galway is key to that. On the other hand, if ye have a couple more injuries, yd could be in trouble. But at the moment, I think Mayo will win.

Galway are ok but its time to return to beating them in the championship . I like that feeling and I want it back .

I prefer the feeling of Galway beating Mayo myself :-)

Yeah but a lot more Mayo people work in Galway than Galway people work in Mayo so it's only fair that Mayo beat Galway this year!

You are unwell and ill advised . Is there some sort of grant that can be bestowed on you , to save you and get you to move from the Dark Side to the Beautiful Side

Just getting to comment now, fair play to Galway went toe to toe with Dublin in many ways and rattled them for extensive periods

Comer is the best forward in Ireland at the moment imo and is going to take some minding. I really don't know who is up to the job

A lot of the talk is now about Galway though and dare I say Mayo are even being written off by plenty? No harm at all, this Mayo side has thrived brilliantly on being written off

Should be a belter, has a real knock-out air to it

I was heartened by Galway's inability to push on v Dublin being a man up for 20 minutes, actually they ended up losing by 4.

The Mayo's and Kerry's of this world would have pushed on.

So I think there is something to the idea that Galway's new defensive approach is one demonsial.

Mayo are not in a good place by any means, injuries and poor league form (espically at home) do not bring confidence.

But still they have many hardened campaigners with a good spattering of youth (Lofus is young, Durkan is young, Diarmuid O Connor is young, Harrison is young)

Getting out with a win is very important to avoid a long road to a potential SF, I'd hope Mayo are focused and prepared enough to get that win.

It's absolutely imperative mayo take the lead . Sunday showed that Galway have no other plan to chase a game.
Level with a quarter of the game left. A man up. With a strong wind. Against an undercooked and slightly depleted Dublin team .
    Never looked like winning .
But they are heroic whereas mayo would have been bottlers or chokers or to use a term thrown at me from Galway folk the last 7 years suffering from Crokeparkitis. Cos our recent record in Croke Park is so poor compared to theirs ;)

Could be a Mayo/Tyrone 2016 all over again

All the talk about Tyrone in the build up, but Mayo's experience and general nous got them through it. They really played with a point to prove that day.

If nothing else I expect them to be much more focused this year than the last two.

There are still quite a few average players in that Galway team

    Thought the same myself.

It's the same type of setup, a defensive counter attacking team v Mayo.

You eek out a win by playing smart, holding on to the ball and being patient.

Yeah Zippy was back training with the squad last night.:)

So who's going to mark Comer?Lee Keegan was the obvious candidate IMO.

I suppose it depends on where he plays,on top of the square.Dare I say Brendan Harrison, further out the field Boyler??

Big shout out for the Coveys on Saturday from a fishhead with Westport connections.I believe there won't be a soul left in Westport come Saturday.

All joking aside best of luck to Rice College on Saturday as they go head to head with St. Ronan's of Lurgan who'd a surprise win over Eamonn Fitzmaurice's Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne.

Kerry schools have dominated the Hogan Cup in recent years with St. Brendan's to the fore as well.Oisin McConville's son Ruari lines out for the school from the Orchard county.

Best of luck to St. Nathy's from another spiritual home of Mayo football Ballaghaderreen in the B final.

    Saturday 7th April 2018

All-Ireland Post Primary School A final

Rice College (Westport) v St Ronan's College (Lurgan) Croke Park 4 PM

All Ireland Post Primary School B final
St Nathy's (Ballaghaderreen) v Holy Trinity (Cookstown) Croke Park 2 PM

I was given the heads up that the Rice College game was going to be televised but can't source anything to verify same.

While power is important to mark comer, speed is more important to deal with him as you have a better chance to restrict his impact. It will make it harder for him to turn with a pacey defender. Assume he plays full forward, I think Harrison is the best fit with Keegan out and should be well capable to go at him. Harrison is also very good at reading the play.

Stopping the supply in is the key. As it was with Donaghy last year

Definitely wouldn't put Boyle on him. I admire him a lot but he is extremely prone to picking up cards. And you certainly dont want to be picking up a card early in in the Galway - Mayo match this year! Particularly if you are Boyle as he will probably go for a big hit at some stage. A second mistimed and then he's off. Would Barrett be a good match for Comer?

What About Crowe? He was finding his feet against McBrearty and overall had a good league.

Donaghy is finished really and will not work like Comer. The chances are we will play a sweeper anyway with him (Boyle). If Galway play like they have been so far and I expect they will, we will be much fitter and faster attacking. What killed us in Salthill is not been fit and the slow build up to attack

He was really picking up a head of steam towards the tail end of the league but it's very much up in the air if he'll start.Doubtful I'd imagine if everybody is back fit and healthy.O Donoghue is the most obvious of the new lads to start.

Yeah I know Boyler is increasingly prone to picking up the cards but I'll never forget his thunderous tackle on Comer in the championship game in MacHale park.He was playing right on the edge.

Irrespective of how much you limit the supply and I can't see that we'll dominate midfield to the necessary degree Comer will invariably come out the field looking for the ball.He won't stay inside if he's getting no ball. It's not in his nature.

It was some hit alright (although I think it may have been Pearse Stadium?). Heard Comer talking about in an interview not so long ago as well - sounded like he had a lot of respect for that hit!

Chris Barrett has the power but I don't think he's the pace nor the height for Comer.

TBH Harrison if fit is the most obvious candidate but he hasn't if I recall correctly found it easy to handle Comer.

    But heck who has?
