I think Crowe has had a pretty good league campaign and is certainly a better option than caff!

We are well stacked in defence now
I also thought Coen had a good campaign

Coen is a very good player. I think it's more a question of where to fit him into the team to get the most out of him.

Is Ciaran whelan actually for real ?

Also, in one criticism of Mayo and Rochford ultimately. I thought it was very strange to have Crowe on McBrearty in his first proper campaign, McBrearty is one of the best in the country!

Ah you've got to start somewhere though. McBrearty is a huge task for anybody. If McBrearty had got the better of caff, Rochford would've got roasted for it anyway.
It's not like you can ease lads in at this level.
    Roll on galway .

I thought he did ok............we have found a few players during the league but sadly no forwards !
Having said that I think Conor loftus has a longer range on his frees than collision

Cillian? Maybe a fitting moniker given all the injuries he's suffered...

Cameo of the day has to be the reintroduction of Alan Freeman not that he got a touch of the ball mind :pac: We're not aflush with options anyhow so yeah there should be a place for Alan on the panel.

Got out of jail today, apart from Conor Loftus the forward play was again poor. Nobody making runs. Yes we created goal chances but it just felt laboured. Somebody asked why didnt we stick on Barry Moran upfront for a while. I would have put him in midfield and stuck AOS up full forward just to give us another option. Too predictable up front.

Out of interest. When was the last time this happened. When was the last time Barry Moran and AOS played at the same time with one at midfield and one full forward ( not half forward, full back or just in front of the full back)

Has this ever been successful, do they try it in other competitions ? I don't think the current management team have ever tried it.

    It would appear so.

"Whelo" probably thinks it's much more honest to go straight in with a blindside punch a la McGarritty...

Didnt watch it but I assume he referenced the shenanigans at the last Donegal kickout.

Another life lost due to Mayo football. Sweet fk can we ever do it nice and handy. Didn't look good coming towards the end but it was karma for Murphy falling over and trying to run the clock down.
Loftus and Donughue was top notch. Wondering why we disappeared there for a period though, can't figure that one out.
Better off in Div one, the better teams are there, but we need to review why now we have had 3 seasons on the brink.

But a draw is a win, we will take it.

I put up a negative post about Conor loftus last week. Got that one wrong. Could see him growing in confidence as game went on. Great free taking too. With 10 mins to go, he showed great acceleration and skill to get past 2 Donegal lads. But fluffed the shot in the end. But reminded me of same style that Shane Walsh from Galway has.

Watched the last 15 minutes back. It’s amazing how different it looks on the telly! For mcbreartys missed chance, I reckon there was a block? Think you can hear it on the coverage. Also, we coughed up possession for that chance by allowing the ball over the sideline but if you watch it back, there was at least 2 members of the donegal management team standing literally on the line impeding Boyle’s efforts to stop it going out.

Would also love to see the beginning of the melee at the end. It wasn’t the team wide cynicism that was implied on League Sunday last night. Started with Durcan and Gallagher and as tends to happen several players from both sides joined in. It isn’t shown on the TV coverage though as they’re too busy showing replays of Kevin’s wonder point! Did feel like the ref should’ve allowed one more play but given all of Donegals timewasting in the closing stages, I’d say he wasn’t inclined to give them anymore time.

Joe.ie is saying that Mcloughlin took 13 steps before he scored the point. I only counted 9

Actually thought watching it that it touched one of their feet as well.

Confidence is the key now. The newer lads, Coen, Nally, Donoughue, Loftus need to be given their time and head to grow into this team. We will lose 3-6 lads in the next year or 2 depending on how we do, so we need to give the lads these games.

Loftus was not great in a few games and I can see why some would call it that way. There are a few things to take into account with him, in particular when the seasoned guys are not playing well, it is harder for the younger guys to get a decent run and playing well. Rochford didn't help him either imo but I will not go there.. Loftus is also a bit light/lacks upper body strength and the heavy ground does not suit him so he should start to get better as the ground gets lighter. Loftus also needs quick ball and slow laboured play does not suit him. He is by no means a finished article but he has loads of potential so he should push on but just needs a bit of game time to improve

Delighted with the draw as this is as good as a win. I think the manner of the draw has to have the guys in great form for Galway.

The current management haven't had a whole pile of time to try that combo out. They're in the job 2 years and Barry Moran has been injured for a big chunk of that period, last year was a write off... my memory is failing me but I think he was in and out the previous / first year.

Should they be trying it is another question... I think two big men sounds better than the reality of it. We are most effective at a running game. I'm not sure it's even a good last gasp tactic... maybe, but with nearly every team carrying a blanket, I'm not a fan of the idea.

The big man in FF worked ok as a surprise tactic of sorts in 2015 but you have to bear in mind it worked best against a hapless Sligo defence, and a Galway defence absolutely wide open through the middle. I know O'Shea got a goal against Donegal but if I recall McGee had just picked up a knock before that and had been well a match for him until that stage. The less said about it in the Dublin saga that year the better, Phily McMahon even outscored AOS! More ball ended up over the end-line than anywhere even near him

It can work well as a change-up tactic from time to time, like in the Tyrone game and Dublin replay in 2016. But the top teams are well able to defend against it and it is far more difficult to execute than Kerry make it look.

It would pretty much render Andy's role as that of a mere passenger. He's far more clever at winning possession and in possession than any big full forward could ever be.

the heavy ground does not suit him so he should start to get better as the ground gets lighter.

he gets way better when the effects of gravity are reduced solely on him too. Plus hes not hungry after he eats - and other outrages piseogs

    Reported in the Indo

Mayo boss Stephen Rochford has confirmed that Lee Keegan will be out for "three to four months" after having surgery on Friday to repair a dislocated shoulder.

Rochford also said he would speak with Keith Higgins about his plans this week, adding that he didn't have "an immediate concern at the moment" about the All-Star corner-back, who has helped the Mayo hurlers earn promotion to Division 2A this year. "Hopefully, we will look forward to having him on board in the next (few weeks)," Rochford said.

Was it not a free awarded to Donegal for a foul on Murphy rather than a sideline ball ?
