I watched Casualties of War last night.

Not as good from what I remembered but still well worth a watch.
I'm going to binge a lot of Vietnam movies now over the weekend:D

Not much available on Netflix though:mad:

The best films came out of that war. Full Metal Jacket is my favourite, followed closely by Platoon. Apocalypse Now isn't half bad either!

I have the three of them on dvd somewhere, platoon is easily my favorite.

Amazing film, will have to dig it out too - been a couple of years since I last saw it!

I caught The Villainess last night and really enjoyed it. The opening and closing action scenes are phenomenal, but it's not an all-out action fest - it's a surprisingly character-focused drama for a film whose plot is about a shadowy assassin ring trying to eliminate a criminal organisatlon. It's well worth a watch, though there's a part of me wishing it had been a full on action fest just for how damn good that opening scene in particular was.

Watched this last night based on your post. Damn your right what an opening a mix between Ichi the Killers corridor fight and a fps. Great ending as well. Thanks for the heads up.

Apocalypse Now and Come and See would be my two favourite movies about war. Come and See not as well known as most but it really does pack a punch. Everything about it just works perfect. Well worth a Watch if you haven't seen... in my Top 10 for sure.

This is making me sad , and angry .

How fcuked up is the American Justice system ??
No wonder people plead guilty half the time when they're innocent , it takes a strong person not to break whilst going through what he did .

Come And See is a great film but it's grim as ****. It's on a different level to the American war films mentioned above.

Would recommend the series Josh, pretty funny. If you liked Fresh meat or lovesick, might like this.

Many thanks to whoever it was on this thread that recommended "Nobel".

Excellent series with no filler. Intelligent, believable plot with just the right amount of tension.

Great characters as well and the viewer isn't patronised with "Goodies v Baddies"

Thanks to whoever recommended it ...

... Now recommend me another one!!

Alias Grace is a slow burner.. gets under the skin, quietly powerful & really good.

I binge watched it, finished the series last night. Atwood is a great story teller.

“Female is real, and it's sex, and femininity is unreal, and it's gender.

For that to become the given identity of women is a profoundly disabling notion."

I looked at the trailer for that and Gyllenhaal looks like a right greaser in the bits I watched.

Also watched The Lady in the Van....now that's a lovely slow-paced, well told story.

Yes..he was a 'right greaser'...totally unlikable; made me squirm at times, but it served to highlight the versatility of his acting. And it was interesting he was chosen/chose to, play the villain. So many actors become type-cast.

He's the best actor working today IMO. His range is phenomenal but some of his choices have let him down (Prince of Persia, Southpaw and Everest to name a few). I think if he had planned his career better he'd be the biggest actor today.

Yeah, I see what you mean.
He looks like he should be a "George Clooney" mega-popular heart-throb. But he hasn't taken the romcom-blockbuster-hero route.
That "Everest" movie was awful. and he looked embarrassed in "Prince of Persia".

His sister, Maggie, is the same though. She has great range and ability, but hasn't taken a straight or easy path either. Watched "Stranger than Fiction" recently (Netflix), which she's in with Will Ferrell (that's not a couple that you'd put together!).

I think that’s part of his appeal tbh
I like most of his movies
    Donnie Darko especially

Funnily enough I was only thinking last night that I haven't seen her in anything in years!

She was one of the main characters in the HBO drama The Deuce last year. Brilliant show too by the way, and she was excellent.
