I'm thinking of getting the pixel 2, though it's hard to decide when I've never seen it in person. I switched to Apple 2 years ago and actually like it. I like the cleanness and simplicity of it but there are some features I miss like widgets and being able to do basic things like top up my leap card. I'm hoping a stock android would be the best of both worlds.

The thing I'm worried about is its a bit on the expensive side but lacks things like wireless charging, it has massive bezels. Basically the same as my 6s, which I bought 2 years ago. Also no phone jack, which is one of the reasons I told myself I'd never buy another apple phone. I don't know. If the phone was 100 euro cheaper I would buy it no problem.

In saying that reviews for this phone have been really positive (except from one of my favourite reviewers mobiletechreviews) the camera looks amazing which is something I really look for in a phone. So what do people think? Is it worth the price. Anyone go from Apple to this? How did you find stock android? Anytime I use my parents (admittedly cheap) androids phones I find it overwhelming and difficult to find anything and just full of bloatwear. Im imagine that is not a problem with stock android though.

Thanks for the reply. I will say I don't hate Android. I just dislike all the bloatware that comes with it and depending on the skin it can feel more complicated than it needs to be.

I am going to be getting a new phone soon and I'm fairly certain it will be an Android phone. I do like IOS but there are some things I miss about android, like Widgets, having an app draw rather than all your apps on the main screen etc. I would just like an Android with out all the "mess". My last Android was a galaxy A3 which was a mid range phone and I really like it. Apple was my first premium phone so that might have a lot do with why I like it. I don't think I like the newer galaxy phones however. I'm not really into the curved glass and I know people love the saturated colours but I'm not into. I love the look of the essential phone but the camera just isn't every good.

To be honest, having bezels doesn't really bother me, nor does the lack of wireless charging. Especially when it has fast charge. It's more the idea that I paying a premium price but not getting those features. Does the rest of the phone make up for that? I'm not sure of any other phone that uses stock android or a very clean android that would be suitable? I know this is a thread about the pixel but I'm open to suggestions

Have my pixel 2 nearly a week now and it's starting to really grow on me after a few days of uncertainty.

Jumped on an offer to get the 128gb version for £560. Moving from 2 and a half years with a one plus x and a few years with a nexus 4 before that.

Camera is great, assistant is something I hope to get a lot of use out off and a big reason for my purchase, some oreo tweaks are great.

There are still a few things I miss from my old one plus which is a shame after spending the most I've ever spent on a phone.

The lack of a headphone jack is very annoying and I think it's going to force me into buying BT headphones and the downsides that comes with that move.

Yeah, have the dongle but it's far chunkier than I expected it to be based on seeing the iPhone.

My quick research tells me that I may be better off going Bluetooth vs USB C.

In recent years I have found a really good set of reasonably priced 3.5mm ear buds. I burn through them based on wear and tear, loosing them etc though.

Not too happy having to return to the world of over priced gear that delivers less than the £30 pair I have now.

I was tempted to buy them until I read the reviews. They seem very underwhelming and even more so when you look at the £159 price tag.

I finally got it working after doing 3 factory resets, flashing an older version of android, getting a new sim card and talking to both Vodafone & Google.

In the live.vodafone.com APN I changed the MVNO type to GID & MVNO value to ff(this was the default setting I think). Doing this deleted all other APN's apart from the live.voda one. I tested the hotspot by downloading a few GB of files which came out of my data allowance. The average speed to came to 5.5MB/s.

Why this works I am not sure. MVNO is mobile virtual network operator which refers to operators that don't own their own infrastructure, think Virgin Media using Three's infrastructure.

Who actually recommend that then? Vodafone or Google?

Tried it myself there and same result - all other apns for VF were deleted

I was considering moving from the Samsung s8 to the pixel 2 XL until I realised there's no headphone jack. :(

I got my Pixel 2 from CPW, their 64gb for 128gb offer. Came from a HTC 10. I love the phone; it's fast, and "light", although not as customisable (maybe because of less bloatware). Google Assistant has potential, I haven't had time to play with it. Having no headphone jack is truly a negative. I've not tried to use the dongle, but I'm really enjoying the sound through the speakers. The camera is awesome, giving good quality photos. I don't understand why people go on about the bezels, they're only obvious to those who want to notice it.

So I've managed to turn off assistant by changing the language to English (Ireland). I can''t change it back cos all the options are greyed out. Anyway I can change this without reset the phone?

    Edit:-sorted.

Try going to Setting, Google, Search then voice and there you can change the language...

Yeah I got it sorted. Oreo has things a bit all over the shop from what I'm used to on my old S7

Indeed. I've requested a refund from Google due to yet another dead pixel on my 2XL, after 4 different replacements, it's time to move on sadly for me.

So after thinking on it for a week and looking up reviews I decided to go for it. I bought it on eglobal for a good price. Ended up being over 200 euro cheaper than the iPhone 8 which I was also considering if I was to stay with apple. Eglobal says it has a 30 day return policy so worst comes to worst I can return it if it does not suit me. I just hope it doesn't take forever to get delivered

Anyone had this - assistant seems to have disappeared off my phone. Was working earlier.

I've deleted the Google apps cache and restarted but that hasn't worked.

    Anyone any ideas?

Started working again on it's own. Very strange. No app updates or anything.
