We just got a look at images and pricing for the Pixel 2 XL, but now it's the smaller Pixel 2's turn. This HTC-made device will actually be fairly reasonably-priced at $649 for the 64GB storage size and $749 for 128GB, and it'll come in three uniquely-named colors.

    ap_resize.php?src=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.androidpolice.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2017%2F09%2Fnexus2cee_pixel2xl-728x434.png&w=728nexus2cee_2xl1-329x338.png
Appearance-wise, the Pixel 2 XL looks pretty sharp. It'll come in two colors: "Just Black" and "Black & White." As we'd suspected, the camera lens is positioned inside the glass window, while the fingerprint sensor sits within the metal portion. Our positioning of the camera and flash was slightly off, but it's important to remember that we gave the render an 8/10 score.

We only have pictures of the backs, but the Black & White model brings back the beloved panda look from the Nexus 5 and Nexus 6P. There's an orange power button on the Black & White color, which seems like an odd addition from this picture alone, but I wouldn't be surprised to see some orange accents on the front of the phone as well to go with it. The Just Black model has a regular, black power button. We also get the now-familiar "G" logo near the bottom.

The 64GB model of the Pixel 2 XL will reportedly cost $849, and the 128GB model $949. For comparison, last year's 128GB Pixel XL cost $869, marking an $80 increase in that arena. Google will also offer financing, with the 64GB model costing $35.38/month for 24 months and the 128GB $39.54/month. It's worth noting that the Pixel XL's standard storage was 32GB, and it's nice to see Google's standard coming in line with Samsung's and Apple's.

To be announced October 4th...anyone interested?

Definitely will be keeping an eye on this one. Interested to see if there's an improvement in the availability of it.

Yeah, the low stock levels and not being able to buy the last one in shops here were ridiculous.

What are the chances of a dual sim version of the Pixel XL 2?

Pretty slim if going by the last few years are any indicator.

Droid Life suggested that the Pixel 2 will be priced at $649 for the 64 GB version and $749 for the 128 GB variant, while the Pixel 2 XL would cost $849 for the 64 GB version and $949 for the 128 GB model.

This would mean the standard Pixel’s price would remain the same as last year, while the XL variant would see an increase from its $769 (32 GB) and $869 (128 GB) introductory prices.

Some rumored Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL specs:

Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chip (contrary to some rumors)
    64GB and 128GB storage options
    IP67 dust and water resistance
A squeezable "Active Edge" feature like on the HTC U11
An E-SIM card slot allowing you to connect to different networks without swapping SIM cards
The Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL are said to have different battery capacities (3,520mAh in the Pixel 2 XL versus. 2,700mAh for the Pixel 2) and a QHD display (2K resolution) on the Pixel 2 XL, versus a FHD display (1080p resolution) on the Pixel 2.

Will these get an official release in Ireland or will we have to import? Remember looking for one at the launch of the original and I gave up on it.

Yea me too. I managed to get a pixel in the end.... I loved it. Though the microphone died. Google sent me a brand new one very quickly though. Hoping they make it easier to get this time around. Not mad about the colours this year though moving the glass back higher up is definitely a result. Curious place to have a search bar though at the bottom ..... Hope that's moveable. There is something so great about having stock android on a Google device. Fingers crossed for better battery life also.

Am caught between the pixel 2 XL or the V30. Seems pixel won't have wireless charging (dunno if I'd use that much to be honest), slightly larger bezels and be priced higher. On the flip side, front facing speakers and OTA updates.

Will have to wait and see the event live to see if they can put forward a great presentation to sell me.

Also November release is so long away for the XL. Dunno if this is due to deemed demand or if they are copying Apple's lead here......

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,780 ✭✭✭sentient_6

Not to be skeptical but I would be surprised if it gets a general Irish release.

Id go for Pixel as LG are pretty poor for updates, even security updates. I believe Google provide security updates for 3 years and OS updates for 2 years.

Is it straightforward to buy one from their UK store if they don't sell it directly from the Irish one?

The v30 has a headphone jack with incredible audio, wireless charging, dual cameras, ip68 water resistance (although the pixel might have that), and the v30 will probably be cheaper. I'd never buy a phone without a headphone jack. Taking away features yet charging you more for the privilege? No thanks apple, sorry I mean Google..
Be careful, don't enrage the Nexus/Pixel/Revolut/Bose fanboys.
They're not known to be open minded, open to constructive criticism or reasonable.

Looks like I'm checking out the v30 so. I have an iPhone 7 at the moment and the lack of a head-phone jack is the reason I want to drop Apple for android.

Im not 100% but didn't Google recently start allowing people to switch the store location to allow buying from other countries?

The lack of stereo speakers would put me right off the v30

I would bet money on it not being available in Ireland - considering the last Pixel was only available in a handful of EU countries, and they simply don't have the manufacturing capabilities of their competitors, Ireland would be the very bottom of the list. It's a shame! Hopefully the unlocked UK release won't be too far off.

Not showing clear views of the front of the pixels.

Nice phones. The white and black with the orange power button looks especially nice.

    They won't be cheap.

I dunno what they were thinking with the price point of those laptops.

Weren’t Google taking the p1ss out of Apple last year for dropping the headphone jack??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 90 ✭✭Four Winds

Yes, but this year I like how they took the piss out of Apple about limiting certain features to the larger, more expensive phone.

DxO mark has gone a bit stupid. Gave the iPhone 8 a ridiculously high score when it's photos are clearly average....now the pixel is almost at 100. Soon they're going to have to score over 100.

Up on the German Google store:

    - €799 for base Pixel 2
    - €939 for Pixel 2 XL

Add €110 to go from 64gig to 128gig

On the UK store: £629, £799, and +£100

Pixel XL is currently 500GBP on Amazon. Think it'll fall below 400 or is that overly optimistic?

Think I'll go for the panda edition :D

Is Parcel Motel through the UK store the best way to get it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,587 ✭✭✭DesperateDan

FYI the store says the XL at least ain't shipping until December

Early look/review from The Verge just went up.

Whilst I typically can't stand the website, I have respect for Dieter Bohn as a journalist and phone reviewer.

€90 cheaper for base, €40 cheaper for XL. Larger size, same price.

I placed an order for a 64 GB black and white XL for delivery to Parcel Motel, but I'm not sure I'll keep it. The delivery is estimated for the middle of December and the price is a bit more than I would have liked.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 993 ✭✭✭bigslick

Sold out on UK and DE stores already? Hopefully they get more stock, but going by delivery dates of December for those who did get their order through it doesnt look great for getting one........

So looking at £800(€930 using current paypal conversion rate) for the 64GB Pixel 2 XL. Trying to buy it is like trying to get tickets for a really popular gig and then a 2+ month wait if you are successful. I guess they are trying to create the image of an exclusive device which is the pinnacle of Android but it just seems like real f*ck you to the customers.

Any idea how much you would be charged to import from the US? I've got a friend over in the US who is willing to ship me one, which works out at 740 euro which is ok. Anybody deal with customs+excise duty before with a product of this price? :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,241 ✭✭✭god's toy

So I'm wondering do the new AI stuff coming to Pixel 2 also come to the first one? If not right away how long a wait?

musing with the idea of selling the oneplus 3 and getting the pixel 1, same cpu I know but that AI stuff is entreating.

Would there be any issue with buying the pixel 2 from the US store (apart from import tax) via address pal?

Besides the plug, nope should be fine. Bands are the same as the UK one. Im just trying to figure out how much the tax would be, its a lot cheaper if the tax isnt much
