Well, in that case I can say they all had a 1 in their year of birth and death, and were all men. ;)

You think I'd accomodate weak intellects with such a banal test? I may be a soft touch but I'm not Santa Claus >:)

I think we are being accused of having weak intellects, New Home. I shall sit in a corner and sulk. :D

I shall sit with you and keep you company, but instead of sulking I'll be plotting our revenge.

Ah well in fairness, it was a rubbish answer (mine). Good though :D

It's probably as tough as any asked here. I'll give it a while and see if others have a go.

Oi! This corner is reserved for the dim-witted, or rather, for the weak intellects; the dunces corner is over there, and there's plenty of room!

garancafan and ironwalk between them are three-quarters way there.
All served as foreign minister/secretary of state of one country/sovereign state and subsequently became head of state/government of another.

    1. Kapodistrias was actually part of the government of three states:
Chief Minister of the Septinsular Republic ( i.e. Ionian Islands ) 1803-1807
Foreign Minister of the Russian Empire 1815-1822
First President of independent Greece 1827-1831 (assassinated)

    2. Lindo:
Secretary of State of El Salvador 1840-1841
    President of El Salvador 1841-1842
    President of Honduras 1847-1852

    3. Bismarck:
Foreign Minister of Prussia 1862-1890 ( and also minister president for most of that time.)
First Imperial Chancellor of the German Empire 1871-1890

    4. Shevardnadze:
Foreign Minister of the USSR 1985-1991
    President of Georgia 1995-2003.

garancafan and ironwalk owe a question each. Others can vacate the naughty step to which they voluntarily removed themselves.

Francisco Morazan of Honduras became head of four different states at different times but was never a foreign minister or secretary of state.

    OK- my question;

    What links

    King David,
    Alexander the Great,
    Julius Caesar,
    Charlemagne?

No- not that they all ruled the largest empire of their time

Not that they were the first rulers of their domains.

Yes- they're all dead....but it's STILL not the answer :-)
