Davey - bring the car to Curran and he'll use Ceriglass (cerium oxide) and a rayon pad to remove all scratches and have the windscreen perfect.

So I clayed my windscreen the other week. Seems to have gotten rid of most of the wiper and water marks etc but now the windscreen is pretty badly scratched. Quite a few long scratches in different directions, one looks like it follows the wiper path.

Car was cleaned, rinsed thoroughly then windscreen was cleaned with glass cleaner and clean glass cloth. Clay was well lubricated. I stuck to small square sections being light and quick while also flipping/reworking clay bar.

It's possible I may have leaned hard but I'm very surprised at how many scratches there is? :(

Glass is the toughest part of a car, there's no way you scratched or marred it with clay, especially if it was just a bar, now what probably happened was it was dirty enough to not notice the scratches but now you'll see them as it's so clean.

I should've mentioned there'd be no way you had done it as long as there wasn't something like a stone lodged in the clay!

I've only noticed the scratches on the top right corner. I'll look at the other side when I wash the car this week. Really shocked me when I saw it, I try clean the wiper blades often and I don't attack the windscreen with the plastic scraper or anything. I can't see it unless looking for it under light but it's frustrating knowing it's there because I'm trying my best to look after my car :(

Recently started using my Nilfisk E 140.3-9 X-Tra's foam lance, but I find it doesn't produce thick foam. I am using the correct ratio of Chemical Guys Honeydew Snow Foam, and compared to YouTube videos, niflisk's lance gives a well-below-average result.

    Two questions:
How can I find the connector type of my powerwasher?
What foam lance/gun/cannon would you recommend?

You'll get a snow lance anywhere that sells detailing products. I got mine from D&D. The snow lance should come with the connector for the pressure washer

You need a proper lance. I have a Nilfisk and got mine from Detailing Shed and it works a treat.

You should also consider the type of foam being used. Others here have more expertise than myself but some foams are "foamier" than others. This doesn't necessarily mean, however, that they clean better.

I've never used your foam. I use Bilt Hamber - it's not quite as foamy as 50cal that I used before but it leaves a great clean finish. You may have to try a few until you find the one that suits you best.

OP, as others have said, use a proper form Lance. I got mine on eBay but any proper detailing shop will have them. When ordering, just tell them what power washer you have and the correct connector should be supplied.

Also, i've recently got the CG honeydew foam (got it to try out) and it's quite thick but with regards to cleaning ability, the Bilt Hamber Autofoam is far superior (even though it's not as thick a foam). When it's gone, I'll be back to the Bilt Hamber.

    Hi guys,
So I’ve just had Bilt Hamber Snow foam delivered (auto wash and speed wax..,,it’s all you detailers fault!!😜)
How much of the foam product do I put in the lance reservoir? And how much water to top up into it? Thanks

    Edit
Found some info on the BH site, do you guys adhere to this method?

“. ....fill up the he detergent bottle or reservoir with exactly one litre of water. Take a large bucket or container and discharge the lance into this until the detergent bottle is empty. Measure the total amount of water collected, and multiply this number by 0.04. Fill the detergent bottle or reservoir with the calculated amount, and make it up to 1ltr with water. This method will create the correct concentration of auto-foam discharging from the lance”

    Quick question here.

The car had a side respray done two week ago, an excellent job I must say, but would I be okay now to get it washed ?

Washing should be ok but I would leave it a month before doing any was or polish or clay etc. Gives it a chance.

Fresh paint can be washed, clayed and polished straight away.......just don't seal it with a wax/sealant for the first month or two as you said. You want to give the carrier agents(solvents) time to gas out fully before sealing the paint. But better to err on the side of caution if in doubt and just wash during that period.

Washing is fine, so long as you dont use a shampoo with wax additives - Wash 'n' Wax, or Gloss Shampoo, type products which would prevent any necessary out gassing, IF, its required. Speak to your painter about what approach to take on protection, as it might be OK to go ahead. If you cant get an answer, err on the side of caution as said, and give it at least 30 days

    Cheers all.

I don't have the time to wash it myself so I'll leave it another couple of weeks as I know nearly all car washes don't use a pH neutral shampoo. Though if anyone knows of somewhere that does, do let us know.

D&D as mentioned. Foxhole Norman here works for them and is an accredited Gtechniq installer.

Hey folks probably been asked before but I’ve just picked up a white car and it’s got a heap of tar spots and bits of what look like brake dust all along the sides. It’s also got bits of faint black specs of overspray on the boot. What’s the cheapest/easiest way to get it half decent?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,377 ✭✭✭Curran

Tar remover, fallout remover and claybar

I find CarPro TarX pretty good at removing tar.
