Two weeks ago I flew over to the UK to become a Gtechniq Accredited Detailer with D&D, must say, their premises is top notch with an absolutely phenomenal Detailing Bay, anything you could ever want with perfect temperature, humidity and lighting conditions! Fantastic day over there and it was great to get to know the history behind the company and what's in the works over there!

What kind of money would I be looking at to get a full paint detail? I have quite a few stone chips on the bonnet of my 11 year old BMW MSport, would a detailer refuse to work on it because of that? The paint on my car(carbon black metallic) is notorious for swirlmarks, and they show up fairly bad, hoping a proper paint detail would bring it back to it former glory?

If you want a proper job done you'll be looking in the region of €500 - €600. A lot of valeting places will say they will do it for €100 but after a few washes the swirls will show up again due to them using a polish with fillers. The more expensive job is the one you want to properly remove the swirls.

    That color comes up fantastic.
My son had an E60 in that color with quite a few stone chips on the bonnet
I filled them in with paint/lacquer and wet sanded them flat.
Polished it up with a DA polisher and it turned out very respectable.

Has anyone bought a denibbing tool like the scholl concepts sanding block?
I can find a few places to buy the block but can't find the sandpaper discs that attach to it.
Does anyone know where to find 2000 grit (and finer) sanding discs with hook and loop backing?

    Hey all,

New to detailing (got my first car a few months ago) and looking for some advice. I washed the car today and it came up well but there an area that is still dirty (didn't want to press too hard when cleaning). Am I correct in assuming this is tar and I just need a tar remover?

Also, there is this weird mark on the car from the previous owner. Not sure what it is. Any ideas on how to remove it?

Tar remover, iron X and a clay bar would do wonders.

Thanks, would they be applied in that order, yeah? Also, does it matter if the products are from a different brand (I've all AG for shampoo, polish, sealant)?

    It wouldn't matter too much.

Ag is ok but much better stuff out there.

Look up detailing shed .com and he has the real good products. Tar remover that doesn't require and rubbing as it runs off etc.

Ag is more showroom gear and not up to the elements as such.

The Ultra HD wax is pretty good tho. Personally found Autopia to have a better selection

    Yes some stuff is grand.

Curran and others on here converted me though as for many years all my products were autoglym and I still have one or two but honestly all the other products I bought are light years ahead in terms of performance.

Except for the wax I wouldn't be a fan of any other products in their range

Bless me father, for I have sinned. It has been three months since I last washed my car:(

We moved into our new house in mid-December but the back garden/drive where we park (and will wash!) the cars still isn’t finished. The builders have to come back to level it, pour a base for a shed and put in the water/electricity. Because of this I haven’t been able to wash the car and it’s driving me mad! I used to wash it once a week, the amount of sh*te accumulated on it over the last three months of wet, cold, snow and grit is awful – I’m getting comments in work!:) Looking forward to getting it clean and shiny again in the not too distant future!

    go to the local jetwash
    Keep it respectable.

    Hi guys
First time poster here, didnt want to start another newbie thread.
Ive loads of questions so il get down to it.
Bought a nilfisk c135 last week
Ordered snow foam lance, going to order Bilt hamber snow foam, alloy cleaner and shampoo.
At the moment i havent time to give the car a real good going over. Im wanting/need to give it a good wash and then maybe a wax to just protect it a bit until i have the time in late spring/early summer for a proper job. Any recommendations on a wax for this.
I was going to order bh clay bar for future use also and see what recommendations id get here regards polish/waxs/sealants.
Or is it worth splashing out on this https://www.bilthamber.com/detailing-kits/deluxe-detailing-kit
Would it have all i need or is there better things i cud get by mixing and matching other products?

Sorry for long winded post, just to add car is a alfa 159 ti sportwagon in black

Blacklight polish would be good and clay bar definitely is worth the effort.

    Really shows after.

Collinite 845 would be a good buy also.

Will be giving it the once over with clay bar for sure, but not yet. At the moment i just wana give the car a reasonable quick wash and maybe put a wax or sealant on it to protect it,stop it getting any worse especially with swirl marks etc for the next month or so until i have time to spend doing the thing correctly. A stop gap ya know.

That collinite product looks good, might give it a go,thanks

    +1 for Collinite.

I've tried a few waxes and I keep coming back to this.

I've been using it continuously for about 4 years now so there could be better products now available but I will have to be persuaded!!!:D:D

Anyone used the Scholl 3 in 1 backing plate ? Seems a clever bit of kit. Picked one up during the week. Will hopefully test it out the weekend

So I clayed my windscreen the other week. Seems to have gotten rid of most of the wiper and water marks etc but now the windscreen is pretty badly scratched. Quite a few long scratches in different directions, one looks like it follows the wiper path.

Car was cleaned, rinsed thoroughly then windscreen was cleaned with glass cleaner and clean glass cloth. Clay was well lubricated. I stuck to small square sections being light and quick while also flipping/reworking clay bar.

It's possible I may have leaned hard but I'm very surprised at how many scratches there is? :(

Really only option is new windscreen.. I had a scratch few years ago and detailer tried machine polish but didn't help..
