But it is great for small Irish owners and breeder's a lot of money can be made if they find/breed an exceptional horse.

Absolutely, hate the game not the player

I was reminded during the week of a funny experience at last years festival. I was standing in the stands beside this smarty dressed woman in her late 20’s (quite a stunner too ) and a few older people with the usual tweed etc. anyway everyone was shouting for their horse as they rounded the home bend when finally as the winner (outsider) surged clear in the final 100 yards up the hill the only voice everyone could hear was hers, clutching a docket in her raised first shouting at the top of her lungs in a cockney accent “YES, YEAH, YES, GET THE FUXK IN!!”.

    Worst story board.ie EVER.

Depends on the meeting - could be as early as the previous afternoon.

    Well lads,

Has anyone on here ever interviewed for a Retail Job in Powers??

Have an interview in the morning so the nerves are setting in

    Well lads,

Has anyone on here ever interviewed for a Retail Job in Powers??

Have an interview in the morning so the nerves are setting in

At the end of the interview when they say 'any questions?' reply with 'what have you learnt about yourself in your time working here?'.

Best of luck with it. Just try and show you're confident and outgoing (looking at a sour looking yoke behind the counter isn't very inticing to a punter), you can deal with aggression in a calm and composed manner (they won't want someone who'll go to pieces when a punter is going awol when you tell them their virtual winner is void as they put it on after the off time), you can process bets quickly and efficiently (v important if you're gonna be starting before Cheltenham) and you're good with money (I found powers the best from a punters perspective when it comes to making errors, I would have thought it was automated but got paid out on a few placed horses as winners).

On the subject of betting office staff there's one who works in a south dublin PP shop who is easily the worst employee I ever seen. Every winning docket she says 'leave it with me for a few minutes'. This is usually 5 mins if it's quiet but was a half hour one day when it was busy. I thought they just scan it and pay out the amount displayed but open to correction on that. She looks at you as if you have ten heads if you have the audacity to ask her for a price. But the worst thing is her hygiene, there was one time I put a bet on and she was having lunch on the job (no issue with that), but instead of putting her roll down she kept sowing it in to her and sure enough the mayo slopped onto my docker, she then says 'sorry about that' and proceeds to wipe it off with her snot rag tissue. She's there over a year so must be permanent at this stage - how is beyond me.

Interview with Neil Channing from RUK earlier. Punting was a different ballgame back in the late 90s/early 00s

    https://www.racinguk.com/videos/watch/ondemand/9845

Talks about laying his first bet in Cheltenham Tatts, 10k/12k to Victor Chandler. I thought he worked for them. Obviously mixed up him with another Neil

One large better firm advertising 28/1 for buvadair
Another has a similar add for 50/1

Both fail to highlight the Conditions attaching in tiny font size that max stake €1.

This clearly is done to mislead. Seriously, the advertising authority should be allowed ban these types of adds.
