Yes but as a semi state entity that employs 9800 people they have lobbying clout.

We pay individual employees well but because we don't live in clusters like the rest of the sane world our posties spend ages driving instead of delivering.

An Post is not a private sector business...it is funded by the state to provide a service to the citizens.

An Post seems to be the only postal service in Europe that has issues with providing this service...all the rest just seem to accept the reality and get on with the job.

China obtain postal subsidies to encourage economic development - the UPU are meant to compensate national post services. The rate struck is wholly inadequate as this volume of traffic/consumer industrial exports was never envisaged.

Looks like Swedish customs are pressing to eliminate their import VAT threshold entirely.

but you're not paying an post anything for them. You pay china post a pittance who pass little or nothing on.

China Post move the items at least 7000 miles...An Post only carry it the last few miles, so they might only get a small share of the tiny fee China Post charges but then they only do a small share of the work...so in that case they get their fair share of it.

you may only pay china post a pittance but their service is heavily subsidised by the UPU. they can afford to only charge pennies. An post dont have that luxury.

    No it isn't .

It's core business of delivering letters , packets etc is funded by the price it charges for stamps and by fees it receives for delivering other countries post for Ireland .

The state does pay for some services like some rural post offices but that's not a huge amount .

I ordered an item from China on the 4th of February and it arrived today via AddressPal (12 days later) and it must have been delivered in the U.K. 2-3 days ago before AddressPal sent it over from St. Albans. That was pretty impressive for something from Shenzhen in China. If I had elected to send it direct to Ireland I probably wouldn't see the packet for another month or two due to An Post slow delivery of Chinese parcels.

From next June Cathay Pacific will launch a direct flight from Hong Kong to Dublin and this might allow for more opportunities as even though it's a passenger flight I'm sure there will be a certain amount of air cargo transported also between Dublin and Hong Kong.

    17track.net If its tracked.

Other than that, a forum full of Irish/UK consumers probably wont be much use to you.

    IRELAND, Arrived --18-Feb-2018 02:03 PM

IRELAND, the transfer of customs-- 18-Feb-2018 05:43 PM

Have been waiting what seems like an eternity, just checked there, I placed four orders, and they all say as above.
How do I get my packages, does this mean they are stuck? Ordered the 4 Feb!

I've had the following since 30/01 FFS

Only a small value item (memory card from Tomtop) but still. I've ordered and has delivered items from Ali Express since......

I'm waiting for literally dozens of things since January or early February. Today I got an email that one of my items was refunded "at my request" - seems it was returned to sender. I had no notice of any attempt at delivery! Fuming!

There really needs to be an investigation of what's going on...it's getting to be outrageous at this stage.

All I know is everything works fine until the package gets into An Post's hands..then the shenanigans begin.
You are allowed to import items under 21 Euro in value including shipping...if an item is held by customs they will contact you, and you may need to prove what you paid for it...they will then calculate the duty on it if its over the 21 Euros allowed and you get charged at delivery.
The problem is now with An Posts carry on its impossible to know whats actually happening.

It says arrived Ireland Feb 18...it's impossible to even estimate when you will receive it now could be this month or next month.
I have one that reached Ireland on December 20th and still not delivered.

It's just occurred to me that one of my work colleagues has stuff from China delivered straight to the office, and she seems to get a lot in. I wonder if the problem is in particular postal districts? I live in Dublin 7 work in Dublin 8.

If you're friendly it would be good to ask her to correlate a few orders with arrivals.

My suspicion (@Mods: No proof) was the DMC was warehousing it for a few weeks/months before pushing it on. If your colleague sees better times then it would point to Delivery Units holding them - but under a policy for it to be so ubiquitous.

Hi, new to Ali Express so just enquiring if this is common:-
Ordered item 18 Jan and last comment on the tracking page says -
Shipped by air 28 Jan (shipped by air seems a contradiction!)
    No update since!
Does that mean it's still between flights somewhere? Thanks.

An Post was a good trustworthy company up until the second half of 2016...then almost overnight it became a cowboy operator.
I would trust them with nothing now...was going to open a savings account with them before this..but now no bloody way!!
