Not as cold or windy today, hoping the rain comes soon. Pipes and drinkers starting to thaw out but had to come in to warm up. Exhausted and run down from the cold and work the last few days.

Cows and calves will be in a while longer but I can start feeding meal again. Place is going to be sopping wet now.

Just came from Cork City, raining there, but we are on higher ground 500ft+ and snowing heavily...expect it to turn to rain. Roads clearing quickly to water, no slippery slushy stuff..

It's probably a practical thing, what with alcohol having a lower freezing point :D

gave a fellow in a van a tow out of a drift earlier when he kept in too far to let a car pass ,

    know him to see

said he was hitting the village to do the lotto and get fags, he asked was I living at the bend near the river, told him yes,

some time later o/h spotted him walking out the drive way .

found a 5 euro quick pick and a scratch card on the dash of the jeep with a note " thanks for the pull earlier"

I brought in a bottle of beer from the garage earlier and put it in the fridge hoping it would warm up enough to drink later:o

    Sure im always wrong. ☺
I look at MTs forecast every morning. There is the world of info over in the weather forum. Sryanbruen and a few more over there are wizards when it comes to weather. George will agree with this. There has been so many false dawns following the FI charts from 8-10 days out. Big hope of a cold front coming from north, northeast and the odd time from the east. The common joke was "the beast from the east will come sometime". More often than not their hopes would be dashed 4 days out and a lovely warm low would be whipped in from the SW. Be careful what you wish for as it could bite you on the arse some day. ☺

One burst pipe here, all the drinkers up and running now. All the sheds are soaked and water dripping down everywhere ruining the silage and bales of straw but got everyone back on meal.

Thankfully the snow and cold wind is gone. Don't want to see that ever again.

Couldn't make out over the last few days, how the bulk tank kept the milk warm?

Managed to clean the yard and cubicle shed today. Some build up of sh1te in it. It was starting to thaw so conditions ideal.

No thaw here today at all, was below 0c all day with a few snow flurries throughout.

Going by forecast we should start to see a thaw tomorrow mid day.

A bit of sense - farmers and agri contractors will not be held liable for clearing roads as long as they are doing so on a voluntary basis.
Edit to say - Good man Reggie and all the other farmers clearing the roads.

We have a thaw here (ncd) and I was hoping that Longford/Cavan was getting the same as we have to be on the road on Monday with both lorries. According to OH the local roads are still treacherous.

Do you not have a loader or transport box, Latterly I refuse to drive anything with a wooden handle.
Refferring to a post above, BBC were talking about ''ice rain'' that's probably what's arrived here now
I have access to a tractor with front loader but unfortunately it was off clearing the local bye roads so I cleared a path for the van with the shovel. I then headed to my Mam's house to clear the driveway as my Sister was worried in case of an emergency. We celebrated Mam's 90th birthday a couple of weeks ago and her dementia is unfortunately getting worse. After lots of shoveling into 42 wheel barrow loads of snow, a bit of sweeping with the yard brush and a sprinkle of salt the driveway is clear.

Only got to 1.9c here today although we did have a spit of rain. The snow is melting but very slowly.

I don't think ice rain will make it here. Supposed to be nasty stuff.

Man used to travel on the roads here in the 1980s with his little tractor and small mobile tank. You know the time milk used to be moved around to fill quotas. Strange, but said farmer, didn't milk any cows???

Well done, could be worse, see the streets in Arklow on telly and the snow pushed up against the parked cars by the snow ploughs, they did it in the local village here too, it was some job to free them, tough luck on anyone that only parked to get the famous loaf of bread

I had to clear a couple of areas, one being a housing estate, you would be surprised at the stupidity of some people. One lad had abandoned his car across blocking the entrance when he decided it was too dodgy to drive and just left it there. I got it out and then he decided to park it across where i was pushing the snow. Then when he moved it again, he parked it in between the two right in the way again.
I have to say credit is due to the councils around, they were on top of getting the roads gritted and salted, i know the bye roads werent done, but they had a fair task handling what they did, most of the other bye roads got cleared to passable by locals.

Supercooled rain that turns to ice once it hits something. Can bring down trees, pylons etc as it adds weight to the structure. Plus dangerous for driving.

Sheds and yard are a slushy mess now but I'll take that over freezing winds and snow. Cleaned most of the feed passage as best I could and dropped new silage, animals are all a lot happier now with meal and dry food, never been so happy to climbs into all the pens to clean the drinkers.

The old lad was recounting stories from his grandad about much worse snow in 1920. Seems to occur every 30 years or so. I guess we will see the snow at Storm Jemma 2048?
