Think there was a photo from the farmers journal on here yesterday , can't find it now

I suppose some of the more open sheds were much the same when snow is blowing sideways.

I’d a cow with a broken leg yesterday. Going to dairy and on concrete...

FF and SF calling for meal vouchers to be provided through Coops and feed Merchants...

How is it that everyone can profit except those that suffer the most?

How did cows on outdoor cubicles fare out in the blizzard conditions?
no worse than the cows in a house open to the east like ours-that said it wasnt good

Anyone having a Board meeting this morning, is ridicolous. If I was the one at home, carry the baby, I would not be amused. Surely they could hold that off for a few days.
    Am I missing something here?

Mains water back this morning so the machine got a proper wash for the first time in 4 days. And I had left the hot tap on so I even managed a warm wash as well. Next is a hot acid wash and then a hot caustic wash before milking this evening.

    Happy days.:)

    Conference call I'm told.

Bought a couple of of bits of kit on Wed before the end of the month as salesmen were trying to fill quota. Got good deals, fair enough. Rang bank to finance the kit. There’s no need for him to call out he says just hold the line. Within one minute it was financed and money sent to dealers account...
    Very, very, dangerous carryon...

    Conference call I'm told.

They could do with coming out with an announcement. Milk not collected here since Tuesday. Milk lorry not prepared to collect today or tomorrow. Farm services guy is to ring me back. They dont want milk over 5 days old. More stress on the farmer on top of everything else.

we have roofed cubicles and half were covered in snow due to swirling winds, not one cow would lie up on them, cows were shivering coming into parlor, all got double feed to help, made me think twice about the topless cubicles although its only a weather event we have every 50 years

never so glad to see a bit of rain, thaw has started here, spent last three days defrosting every pipe in parlor, compressor froze and no method to drain fully

just waiting to see if milk lorry can make it to us, otherwise 5 days milk getting dumped, its bit confusing considering our product in now on gdt platform for trading against the us suppliers with scc double our eu limit

glanbia paying 20c on all milk dumped which is decent, lorry not being paid if not collected so pressure is on the lads

Oh out this last couple of hours clearing the roads. Farm services lad said milk will be collected this evening. I hope he's right.

Cold doesn’t seem to bother animals, but cold and wet is a completely different story.
Got caught once with water in the compressor and the air lines...won’t happen again.

Glanbia and producers are co signatories of a milk contract. Your side of the contract is to produce and their job is to collect and process. They should pay. End of.
I’d the same issue here with my crew. The Farm Unions had the plant blockaded for days. I’d to let milk down the drain and they didn’t want to pay. I threatened law because I’m not a member or affiliated to any Union. I got paid....
Would be worth a read of your contract in case they’ve a clause about act of God.

As regards US milk being of lesser quality means nothing. It’s all lumped into commodity...I also produce non gmo maize etc, but it’s just a commodity...

I was going to chance going out later collecting but received two phone calls from farmers giving loads of verbal abuse, I have my phone off now and going no where. Some lads take their grievances of the co-op on the driver who don't even work for the co-op....

We're not being collected until Monday I'm
Told. We were collected on Wednesday night.
Did a good bit of road clearing today and you could see it melting already thankfully.
Most pipes back running here again

    Hard to blame you
It wasn't great to see three tractors pulling a milk lorry to the road on social media, pure hardship

Raining here now, nearly feels colder than the other day prob just being wet. Used yard scraper to clear the yard of Snow, dirty stuff into tank and clean stuff out to a field. Don't think lorry is coming but just in case he decides to. Snow that has been compacted will take a while to thaw

I'm not a dairy farmer reliant on the local transport company to collect my milk but God help the farmers that you collect from with that sort of attitude.
There are farmers/contractors clearing roads all over the Country at their own expense and your miffed because you got a few phone calls from anxious dairy farmers worried about their financial loss if their milk is not collected.

They weren't anxious but abusive as I said plus they made no attempt to clear there own yards or passages for a Truck calling! I will be calling to the sound lads first and the assholes who only think of themselves will be waiting!

How do you know they didn't clear their yards if you weren't there to collect their milk
Your attitude reminds me of a conversation that I overheard in a pub a couple of weeks ago. A milk collection driver (an employee) was complaining that a dairy farmer hadn't scrapped the yard properly and his boots got dirty.

One of the lads went out in a 4×4 to check as the passages are high! That driver was right too about the dirty yard as those boots will be walking around a food production facility later in the day!

Big lorries them, would scraping and gritting not have done the same job as three tractors pulling, it looked to be a long avenue.
    Just saying

Gawd you are correct there. The processor has agreed to collect and use all the milk a farmer produces. In fact, maintain they have an exclusive right to it all.

If everyone tries their best, honestly, processor, driver and farmer. I don't believe in any coercion of anybody. Abuse is disgusting.
At the end the processor should pay, if they fail to collect. The 20c is to buy the farmer off on the cheap and not honestly take their full reponsibility.
Is the farmer now to ensure and insure that the milk gets to the factory?

Artics are very helpless. Processors used always have a few rigids to get awkward places.

Surely the farm has to be accessible, i doubt a court of law would share your view. 20c is not a bad gesture when it's really the public services fault
