Any idea for how bad it's going to get in Mayo? Have a close friends wedding there on Saturday and worried about its going to fare out for her.

Absolutely insane for the last 20 minutes in Mulhuddart D15.

Snow being carried by the wind like in the leftside of fritzellys video 2 above. Mesmerising to stand at the door and watch.

It looks like Naas could be in line for another pasting tonight.

The streamers don't look like much but they brought the unexpected levels through Casement > Naas > Newbridge.

Do they have red weather alerts for weeks or months at a time in Siberia, where people dont go outside ?

i would imagine because they have it all the time. they are better equipped to deal with it. we cant really compare the two.
give the siberians all the rain we get and see how they cope

I'm awake and looking out the window here in Kimmage and cursing all you blizzard hoarders everywhere else in Dublin! Not much happening here but any snow we lost today has more or less been replaced over the course of the day. It's mad how bright it is out.

Please don't tempt faith. Was thinking of this before this all started for were I live.

Maybe you could get some heat into the attic to try warm it from the inside? Like where people grow weed up there, no snow or frost on their roofs :pac:

ME have made this red level warning nationwide and from now even though many parts of the country may see insufficient snowfall to justify that level warning. I wonder are they losing the run of themselves somewhat.

I looked out my window about 15 minutes ago and it was lashing it down.
Stopped now but no doubt will pick up again over the night.
    Live in crumlin.

The precipitation rates at that point in the run (featured in your image) are negligible away from Leinster and Munster. This is a Red Alert for Munster and Leinster, and perhaps Galway. Fundamentally, I think our system of weather warnings needs redressing. Met Eireann are superb but I don't think for one minute that there was unanimous agreement or anything close to it in Glasnevin over this. Maybe, Gerry really is on holiday.... However, they are the experts and they get it right the vast majority of the time.

Edit: The precip doesn't really reach beyond the north midlands here so it's all the more puzzling - http://www.met.ie/forecasts/5day-ireland.asp

Interesting if true. The 11.55 forecast on Radio 1 called for Emma to affect "all parts of the country" at some stage.

There's always a chance - I think the major threat is tomorrow evening and the combination locally of strong winds and snow. Added to the mix is the potential for lightning.

Not with a nationwide red alert in place it won't!

oh its definitely worthwhile. If it means less people travelling after one of the coldest nights in the season, then its great. Thats what I meant by 'protect' part of my message. Aka at least people in the west etc know there could be some bad stuff when they wake up / tomorrow afternoon etc.

The other aspect is that the forecast for tomorrow is for full blizzard conditions.

There were some pictures earlier where people were calling them blizzard conditions in Dublin, but in all of those pictures, the visibility was still over 50 Mtrs. In a blizzard, the visibility can well become less than 5 mtrs, which means that if you stand at the back of a large transit van, you won't be able to see the front of it.

In a nutshell, it's not difficult to drive in those conditions, it's IMPOSSIBLE. So, there is a very real need to get as many vehicles off the road for the next period of time to reduce the accident risk, and dramatically reduce the number of calls to emergency services, as asking them to turn out to deal with road traffic accidents will be putting the responders at risk as well.

I was out earlier today, and as a result of gusts of wind not far from here, (Ashbourne), the visibility went from half a mile to almost nothing in the space of a few seconds, and the ONLY option was to stop until it cleared again. I was on minor roads, with a deep ditch full of water either side, so keeping going even at a crawl wasn't an option, it was not possible to see the edges of the road even looking out of the side of the vehicle.

The Forecast for the next 36 hours means that the fewer vehicles on the move, the safer it will be for all concerned.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁
