Heavy snow and high easterly winds now in Sandyford! Finally getting what we've waited all day for! (I hope...)

I'm up since 3:30 this morning for work and not a hope of me sleeping now. The excitement is killing me, hasn't been any snow for a few hours now in the curragh but we got a lot throughout the night and then today.

My mind is erupting.. can’t compute this.
    Jet stream is backwards.
Wind coming from the wrong direction.
Sliced pans top the Nasdaq and Christmas fm back on the air for tomorrow!!

    Impressive stuff from Cork!!

Latest guidance would give me increased confidence of a complete snow event tomorrow evening.

    Euro4 a little "concerning", no?

ICON has precip a little further north than previous though.

    come on snow.
Sligo will welcome you with open arms,
    call around for a visit.

That's a good point I think, I wonder what weight of snow would be necessary to collapse the average Irish slate roof...

A square metre of tile roof would weigh around 35kg.
25cm of snow on top of that would weigh approximately 25kg depending on the type of snow.
    Your roof will be grand.
The bigger danger would be if it moves off en masse.

Almost non-stop snow in Ashbourne tonight. Yesterday only produced 2 inches. Tonight's streamers look relentless so hopefully that will compensate for yesterday.

blizzarding outside...gusts over 40kts and heavy small graupel falling

Quick, get on to the Minister, Met Eireann, Dublin Bus, Luas, the emergency services etc. and tell them your news. :D

A lot of models don't have precipitation reaching Dublin at all tomorrow, generally getting no further than maybe Bray.

Coming down heavy in D16. Sounds like rain hitting the window, very windy.

I don't think what is happening now can be called a blizzard.

    Wait till tomorrow.

Blizzard is dangerous and poor visibility and drifts.

Tonight is just snow with some wind. Big difference.

Yes I can identify with the excitement, I'm looking forward for some bushcraft in a cave in the Burren tomorrow night, going to set up camp, have all the outdoors equipment etc....
It's something I always wanted to do,camp out in a rocky hollow in the snow.
Light a fire outside....boiling my own tea etc
    Cooking chicken on the fire......

Yea. I've been out in my garden a few times tonight and the brightness is very strange.

The low cloud and the blanket of snow creates this type of glow where when its not snowing its actually very bright.
