Wait til he gets to belfast and does his cruciate or his arm falls off or he gets some kind of new disease that makes his whole body turn to gravy.

If McGrath is injured and Cooney gets a call up where does that leave Ulster at 10 next week?

In an absolutely dire position you'd imagine. Choice between Brett Herron or Angus Curtis getting recalled from the U20s and making his debut.

He'd probably still be released for Ulster.

Away to Scarlets? I doubt it. If it was at home maybe. But an injury in the captains run or warm up means he needs to be there surely?

Luke McGrath was allowed go to Edinburgh last week

And Leinster played the night before Ireland, which would’ve been the same day as the captains run, so I’d imagine Cooney should be grand.

Do we have any news on McPhillips?

Cooney can 'fill a hole' at 10, but he is not a 10. I mentioned that Ulster needed a 10 regardless of whether or not McPhillips was to be trusted with the jersey (this is what I want to see!) as he couldn't be expected to play every minute.

    Please no Heron.

Probably just go down Lisburn high street and pick up anyone who plays 10.

    Worldwide searches n all that

Pete Nelson and Brett Herron are the only other options is the senior squad. Outside of that you are looking at Angus Curtis and Michael Lowry.

Think we're still a long way from rock bottom for this season.
I feel there's a right pasting coming up... Probably several unfortunately.

Andrew deegan from connacht wouldn’t be the worst shout , doesn’t appear to be getting a look in at connacht

Our remaining games (not necessarily in the right order).

    Scarlets (a)
    Glasgow (h)
    Cardiff (a)
    Ospreys (h)
    Edinburgh (a)
    Munster (a)

If we're lucky we will 2 of those games and that's only because we should have Best, Henderson, Stockdale and Piutau back by the time we play the Ospreys at home and Edinburgh away. That said without a decent 10 I don't see how we'll win at Edinburgh.

So yes I'll say it now, if we win 3 of our last 6 games I'll be pleasantly surprised. We have no chance of finishing in the top 3.

He might not be the worst but he wouldn't be far off it.

That's a nasty run-in. Benetton are 8 points behind and I'd back them to win 4 of their remaining 6 games (Connacht home, Kings away, Dragons home and Zebre home). Edinburgh's schedule is very tough.

Ulster's home game vs Ospreys is the easiest of the bunch.

If Ulster finish 4th are they in a playoff for European CC?

    Yep

I wouldn't fancy their chances right now.
Playoff would be a tight affair and their scrum is probably the weakest in the pro14.

Unfortunately, it's not inconceivable that Ulster could lose all but one of their remaining games (Ospreys at home). They might have had a chance at Cardiff and Edinburgh away but I don't see it happening without an out half.

Rumours of Justin Harrison getting a coaching gig for next season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,145 ✭✭✭✭bilston

I see Herring got injured on Friday night as well.

So in a week we've lost Piutau, Lyttle, Reidy, Herring, Gilroy and McPhillips.

    Unfortunate to say the least...

AFAIK Michael Lowry wasn't playing for Banbridge on Saturday when they beat Ballynahinch. Wonder is he injured as he is a real talent in the making?
