Sorry to go slightly OT but I watched the UK First Dates Hotel (FDH) last night. Such a big difference between the two programs. By the end of FDH last night I was left with a warm fuzzy feeling in my tummy - one couple you would not think of putting together got on really well and dated after the show. Another couple were so well matched, got on like a house on fire and were so cute and loved up!
Such a difference compared to the Irish program. The UK program reminds me that love, hope and romance aren't dead - the Irish one makes me thankful to be married!
Couldn’t agree more. Really noticed the difference. I felt for the guy with the posh accent. His date could have made an effort at keeping the conversation going (open ended questions anyone?). At least he’s back next week.

The other two couples were a joy to watch.

Fred and the stuff on UK first dates are much much better than the Irish one, and the restaurant is much nicer too.

Did they get anything to eat?! Every time they were shown they had empty place mats or charger plates in front of them. He seemed to have few different drinks.

Oh God I felt so sorry for him. He seemed to have little experience in chatting and keeping conversations going. His date was a bit rubbish in that respect too. All I saw was drinks ,more drinks, no dinner and I thought he was going to end up under the table!!

He's a gorgeous guy and too hung up on his accent. I didn't notice anything wrong with it at all and was surprised he kept mentioning it. Better luck next time!

(First Dates UK and First Dates Hotel is in a different stratosphere to the Irish one!! -no comparison)

Think someone asked earlier if there is any follow up to what happened next with couples (other than what they show before the credits).  Last week RTE 2's Facebook page had follow up videos from most of the daters:

    - The older couple were still dating long distance.
    - The two girls were still dating.
    - The redhead girl was going back out on the scene.
    - Phil was still an absolute w*nker of the highest order!!

Would say more will be posted after tonight's show.

Mayo man is quite effeminate, maybe camp? Don’t think the girlo is feeling it. I’d be shocked if she wants to see him in a romantic sense.

Marc talking about Marc in the third person.. ohh jaysus

I came on just to say this haha..he seems so gay..they seem like two friends out for dinner, they're getting on well but I could never imagine them being romantic

I really like the 45 year old..seems so genuine and is really just being herself, hope she finds somebody if not this guy

"I've never experienced a nice guy before"

    "You're too nice"

What in the actual f**k. Would you be bothered with dating if that's the type of response you'd get

Too nice and a gentleman, and she's not used to that. What's she looking for a complete prick.

Phil, Phil, Phil, Phil, Phil (in my Alan Partridge voice)

Mayo man seems so much older that 20, looks older too.

Wonder how she would have gelled with Phil last week?
Seeing as she likes dirty flirty.

Am I the only one that things it's absolutely wrong to let a date buy you dinner when you have no intention of seeing them again?

Ah its just a nice way of excusing the fact that she's not physically attracted to them.nobody doesnt date somebody for being nice if they get along well and are attracted to them

I prefer the older couples on this.
They are far more relaxed and (usually) don't take themselves as seriously as the young folk.

omg 20?? Was the girl 20 too? I assumed they were both late twenties or even early thirties

Yeh they're always a lot less nervous, at least outwardly. I guess they're probably more used to it by their age.

It's not a nice way IMHO. She's basically telling that guy to be a bit meaner or not as nice and he'd get a girl like her.

I think she should have just said "No I insist on paying half because I don't plan to see you again" and then "I'm sorry, I just don't feel a spark"

paraphrasing "I'm on here to meet someone nice, all I ever seem to attract is bastards"

Goes on date and gets on famously with a nice lad, Claims to to find him attractive over the phone to her friend.

So are you going to see eachother again

Him : yeh wouldn't mind seeing her again

    Her : Nah , you're too nice

Absolutely infuriates me. They should have stuck her with Phil , they deserve eachother.

She's not though, its literally just an excuse for not being into somebody physically . if he had been mean on the date she still would have said no and she would have been less nice about it too

And personally I don't think theres any reason to insist on paying half if you got along well, even if you're not into them. She liked him, she wanted to keep up with friends with him, and Id genuinely believe that

And if you were on the other side of that situation i.e. the payer in full but they know it goes no further, how exactly would you feel then?

They won't see each other again either by the way. If they are just friends they share the bill.

Anyone know what the real setup is on the show, does each dater get a budget for appearing on the show that they can pay the bill with or what? Must be some appearance money.
