Graham Curtis, younger brother of Angus, played for Malone at the weekend, not sure if he is sub academy or full academy with Ulster.

Calm yourself I've no problem with knox, it's irishfan9 who said he'd be taking the place of a young Irish player. Did I touch a nerve?

He is taking the place of a young irish player in the munster academy. He has gotten a contract that could otherwise have went to a munster developed tighthead.

Considering none were added this season he isnt. I know you cant see beyond that but if there was a player to be added they would have

there a limited number of contracts for the munster academy? Correct?

If one of those contracts are taken by one of these south africans, then it follows logically that there is one less contract for a munster player to take.

They sign players by position as well if there is no player ready for an academy spot they dont sign anyone. You have this bee in your bonnet "about dem foreigners" and its ridiculous.

the academy is meant to be about developing young irish players, not importing south africans and developing them.

Thought Jack Dunne and Harry Byrne looked like certain future academy players last weekend, with Daly and Duggan both showing encouraging signs also. Somewhat disappointed in Silvester and Sullivan, who both need to be better.

Surprised to see Eoghan Clarke, Charlie Ryan, Ronan Foley and Patrick Patterson given such an early opportunity to impress at under-20 level.

Clarke/Foley/Patterson have a chance at getting into Leinster academy if they have strong under-20 campaigns IMO.

Is Charlie Ryan anything to James Ryan?

Lot's of player around that could be said about but none of they seem to want to do it. Don't understand why.

they dont give everyone an academy contract. similarly, if there were no players of a sufficent calibre they would not just take in players for the sake of filling some academy quota that you have in your head.

There are a limited number of contracts in every aspect, from full professional down to the coaching staff.

If the dream is to play pro and to the highest level available you'd assume that would take precedence.

Backrow to hooker is a relatively big change to make, and doesn't always work out. Sometimes players just aren't willing to take the chance on it. Taking apart the extra bulk they'll have to put on to be a front rower, you've then the set piece work like throwing and hooking and scrummaging as part of the front row to learn.

Recent examples of players converting from back row to other positions won’t provide much encouragement.

moved from the backrow to centre.. moving from the backrow to hooker an easier transition.

Thought eoghan clarke was pretty good at hooker, could see him pushing for a Leinster academy place, given need at the position.
