Once you've extracted the water, put a whole bunch of those dehumidifier boxes, you can get them in heatons etc.

If we get more extreme rain weather shortly and you've nowhere to put the car under cover, maybe get a car cover?

Lads from the Motors forum sent me over here regarding what to do with damp build up in car and avoiding smell.

    My post there....
Noticed flooding in the back of my golf yesterday. Nothing spilt and no apparent leaks. Brought it to main VW dealer today and they hadn't seen anything like it. Earliest they can take me is 2 weeks tomorrow however. Said they would have to strip the car to source problem. Brought it to another garage who have done work for me and he hadn't seen anything like it either. Rang another main VW dealer and they hadn't seen anything like it either.

Picture doesn't do it justice. I scooped a load of water out of it last night and this evening but it just comes back. Not a huge problem at the moment but I'm just worried about mould and a smell, and basically ruining the inside of the car.

    Any help appreciated. Thanks

    What model Golf is it?

    ** EDIT **
Never mind. I saw it is a 131 on your original post.

Rear door on that side, Check underneath the door, There should be drains there. Possibly blocked.
other than that is is bad sealing somewhere on the door.
Maybe inner door skin might need resealing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,377 ✭✭✭Curran

My guess would have been the vapour seal, behind the door card. Remove door card and ensure its sealed 100%.

Other potential issues are blocked drains as mentioned, but that usullay comes in the front foot well, if leaves etc have accumulated around the scuttle panel.

Some cars have a rubber bung that is easily removed to allows water drain out, like when something like this occurs. Perhaps thats gone and you've driven through some big puddles?

When issue is resolved, be sure to ensure that the carpets are dried totally and have an enzyme treatment.

Nilfisk arrived yesterday and it's so much smaller than expected! Seems to do the job alright, not bad for €84 considering it should last a few years. Bilt Hamber Auto Foam isn't supposed to be thick, correct? It was very watery when I used it. I know the Nilfisk foam attachment isn't great so I'm guessing it's also partly because of that but it seemed to just be bubbly water if that makes sense, must work on the concentration although it seems like the 5L is going to last quite a while!

No claying the glass, tyre dressing etc as I was knackered after messing about with the power washer and everything. It was also quite windy so half of my neighbours car got a nice mist. Driveway is stupidly narrow...

Gloves worked a treat, got a few pairs from the warehouse at work. Couldn't feel any cold :)

Also, my god the Dry Me Crazy is amazing! Patting dry it soaked everything up no bother, it even held onto small drops of moisture while patting the sides dry so it was quick and easy to dry the whole car.

I must see if I can get a large rubber mat for the garden, probably something with a grid pattern to go alongside the car. The grass gets waterlogged very easily and I'm constantly standing in puddles and walking mud everywhere :/

On the snowfoam - it doesn't need to be thick, in fact thick snowfoam is often 90% waste. What you want is one that does exactly what the BH foam is doing whereby it drags dirt off the car.

You can buy these huge walled mats that you drive the car onto. All water etc from washing the car is collected in this.

BH Auto Foam goes on as a thin layer, sits for a few seconds and then starts to drag down the surface. Yes, the attachment by Nilfisk isnt a proper lance - a good one will have a gauze that the water and solution is forced through, producing a thicker foam...the Nilfisk doesnt have this, and is why its a bubble mixture at best.

To get best use of your Nilfisk and foam, get a proper foam lance. Detailing Shed can oblige.

In the long run, you'll be glad that you did. I got my lance from Detailing Shed several years ago and it is still working very well.

I got BH Autofoam last year and I should get most of this year from it also. Not good for Curran as the repeat order is less frequent but it is quality stuff;)

Pay cheap, pay often as the saying goes. If you have a few €€ spare, you won't regret it and having invested in the Nilfisk (I have mine 8 years now) and the Bilthamber, it's a shame not to have the last bit of kit.

Im happier knowing that people are pleased with the products I sell, and that they can see that economy from them and that the outlay of the extra few quid is recouped in the end. Dont make a sale just for the sake of getting money in the door and that customer not to return due to a poor product. Good advice, paired with top quality products, brings people back! ;)

Don't worry I intend on getting a proper lance from Detailing Shed, but I spent €200 this month already :P

I just noticed the price of CarPro HydrO2, Jesus! Any sign of the 100ml back in stock soon?

Also is Detailing Shed retail, can we go in and buy stuff?

Yes, HydrO2 is steep, but look at the economy of it. If you use it at 1 product : 3 water on the first use and then 1:15 for top ups there after, a bottle is going to go a long way.
100ml vs 500ml; if you were to buy 5 * 100ml, you'd nearly pay for 2* 500ml :) I can practically guarantee that you'll love it. Everyone that has taken a deep breathe when told the price has bought the 100ml bottle and come back for the 500ml a few weeks later ;) YouTube it in action...there isnt many, if any, that can beat it for performance with such ease of use!.

Is HydrO2 meant to be used on top of your wax/sealent layer or as a complete replacement?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,377 ✭✭✭Curran

It can work over pretty much anything, but you'd be defeating the effort you put into applying a fresh coat of wax or sealant. You can apply it over a wax or sealant that has started to degrade, but again, its only as strong as the weakest link (the failing layer of wax or sealant), it'll improve it slightly as its now the sacrificial layer

It can be used stand alone either.

Its an incredibly versatile product....with it being sprayed on, and rinsed off, it also works into all the gaps that you typically wouldnt apply a wax or sealant to....door jambs, panels gaps, etc. Can even be used on windscreens but some people dont like it on the windscreen as it can sometimes cause a brief hazing when the wiper passes; thats if you have the need to use them with it applied.

HydrO2 sounds similar to the Adams H20 Guard i've been using (except that the Adams stuff needs to be applied with microfiber then buffed off) . Will give HydrO2 once i'm done with the Adam stuff ...

Any recommendations for the fading plastic trim around the front bumper and wheel arches on a Honda Civic 2007 ?

Quartz d-lux ceramic coating is the job.

Have had the HydrO2 in my basket a few time but never bought it.
It's seems a bit too good to be true? If it's so good why isn't everyone using it?
I must give it a go soon as I don't have the time at weekends anymore and it sounds ideal.

I use it on the wheels.

It ain't long lasting like putting on ceramic or the real proper sealants but does the job.

Bird ****e on the car already after only washing it the other day. The joys of living in an apartment with free for all parking. I always end up in the corner under the trees and I'm the only one who cares about cleaning their car

Maybe because everyone has the same thoughts as you...if nobody tries it and gives feedback, it remains stuck in a dead end loop!!

There is the other aspect that people have of sticking to what they know. Might be Autoglym (just an example) users for years and they get results from it so dont brave trying something new.

Ordered 100ml of HydrO2. For first time application I dilute it 1:3 ? So one application for the car would probably use up the 100ml. I read somewhere that for better application you can spray it on then run with wet microfiber cloth then rinse off . Does it make much of a difference over spray on/rinse off?

That's how it's used. Wet panel, power wash off.

100ml of HydrO2 in a 500ml bottle, topped with water is 1:4; 400ml water, 100ml product...fine for 1st application. Shouldn't need more than 250ml to do the car, make sure you've a decent misting spray, trigger.
Top up the remaining mixture with water and you are at around 1:10...or get a slightly larger bottle say a litre and tip up until 3/4 and you are at 1:15 for top ups. So you'll get one good coat and 4 or 5 top ups with a 100ml bottle.

I'll give it a go so. I've a few bits in my basket with a certain detailing supplier, just need to contact them with photo of my power washer Lance to figure out which attachment I need for the snow foam Lance.

Used a good bit of it. Found it works very well. Didn't notice any really difference between Reflect Iron X and the likes of Carpro Iron X

Just saw this on a YouTube channel I follow. These guys are a huge leasing company in the U.K. that seem to specialise mostly in high end VAG’s.
Here’s he’s looking for feedback on his detailing routine ;)

I like the Golf R but I like it even more as an estate in white. That's painful to watch...
