Is the GB allowance for the calender month or is it connected to whatever date you first got your broadband connection? i.e mid month etc.

My TB allowance is from 1st of month to end of month.

As far as I'm aware, if you're with eir, the FUP applies for your billing month, not calendar month, despite the fact that logging in to check your usage will show you the usage for the calendar month.

Im 90% sure you're correct that its from bill date to bill date.

That is correct. It creates a lot of confusion and makes it near impossible to track exactly, when you're at the point of exceeding the limit.

I was the same and found it extremely difficult to monitor my usage so I called Eir and requested that they change my billing date from the middle of the month when i signed up to the start of each month. Its made it very easy to keep an eye on what we're using.

My copper connection was billed monthly while I was with Eir.
Must have been some sort of historical thing on accounts of a certain age.

Has anyone had their speed drop significantly since installation? We were getting a steady 130/140mb on the 5ghz and about 20/40mb on the 2.4ghz, but the 5ghz has dropped to 40mb in the last few weeks. Still a good speed, but nowhere near what we were getting.
I don’t think it’s modem related as I tried another one I had(f2000 also) and the speeds were the same.
Any clue why this has happened? Would new connections in the area slow down our speed??

if its over WiFi, its your environment, you have interference from something or someone else. the only way to really check if you have a Wan problem is using the ethernet port with a good laptop. get a WiFi analysre from Acryllic and see what your environment looks like and what kind of channel overlap you have

it's the wifi. Mine mostly stays around 20/30 on 2.4g and up to 160 on 5g but some times this can drop as low as 2 or 3megs while the wired connection is always 287/45+.

It’s ftth and it’s WiFi we’ve used since the day it was installed, and all devices and environment are the same since then.
So the speed over WiFi was 140mb and that’s now 40mb ish.

There are other factors. Wifi can suffer from outside influence. Alarm system with wireless, video senders, baby monitors, bluetooth, neighbors getting new routers that are auto-hopping channels etc.

Lots could have changed without you doing anything.

The only way to confirm, that it's an issue with the router is by testing wired. If wired comes back ok, then you've simply got issues on your wifi, not your FTTH.

Speedtests should always be done wired with no background downloads and all other devices locked out, to isolate broadband issues from domestic issues. And always to more than one server, to rule out, that the server doesn't have an issue.

Surprise, surprise, two appointments so far to install fibre

Appointment number one: technician left after 5 minutes due to needing a second person with 'rods'
    Appointment number two: no show

I still have no idea whether or not the fibre can be installed using existing ducts or what needs to be done.

    Installed today.
    Good job!
    Maxing out my 100mb switch.
I'll plug directly into the modem tomorrow and see how it goes.

Believe me it more than met my needs with my last provider. Was lucky to get 5mb down before.

Cable blown through the blow tube to feed the start of my road in the last week - no other activity that I can see yet, looks like the rural area within Dublin on the R125 is being considered 'Swords'

Anybody know what the yellow cable/pipe they are pushing into ducts. Started putting up new poles in my area before Christmas. Now there out with reels of yellow pipe or cable working on the ducts.

I believe the yellow pipe is a subduct for the existing underground ducts, allows the easier and protected way of running the fiber cable in older ducts which might have lots of sharp edges, partial collapses etc.

Why are no other operators offering FTTH, are they just letting eir retail take all the crap for installations then they swoop in when the work is done?

There are other operators offering the service.

    http://fibrerollout.ie/rollout-map/where-to-buy/

The ones with the green house icon are FTTH.

Lots of other operators offering FTTH:

    - Every provider with a house logo on here offereing OpenEIR FTTH: http://fibrerollout.ie/rollout-map/where-to-buy/ ... and some more, that aren't listed
    - SIRO based providers: http://www.siro.ie
    - At least one other access network provider building, but not launched yet
    - Some small developments by regional providers.
    - Virgin rolling out FTTH

Are any of those offering fibre, and connecting it, to rural FTTH customers, though?

What exactly are you looking for ?

Any of the providers on the fiber-rollout page, that have a house logo, are offering FTTH on the OpenEIR platform (rural and urban) .. on par with Eir retail, but with different packages, pricing and service. Eir retail is not OpenEIR.

Yes. All of the providers listed on http://fibrerollout.ie/rollout-map/where-to-buy/ are offering services on openeir's network which is due to pass 300000 rural homes by the end of 2018.
