The worst ? No because the patriots knew what they had and left him go.

He will be a free agent in the summer. If they want him back they can get him I'm sure. If they held onto him and he was going then they got nothing for him but they got a nice high second round pick for him.

Worst move? His current QB isnt slowing down any time soon and there is no way we pay Jimmy Starting QB money to sit on the bench and there is no way Jimmy wants to sign another contract not knowing when Brady is going to retire and no way Brady gets traded.

I love Jimmy Q and thought he was our future but there was no way we were going to keep him with Brady still playing at a high level.

Besides at the rate they are going Brady and Bill will be retiring together.

49ers will tie up a contract for him long before that ever happens.

Well it's entirely up to Jimmy G whether or not he wants to stay there. All they can do if he wants to go is franchise tag him.

Which means they can keep him there for 2 years a la Cousins before it gets remotely difficult. He’s not leaving the 9ers anytime soon.

They will tag him but he is now a hero there and its his team and he is in nobody's shadow and unless Brady announces retirement in the off season there is no way we see Jimmy back in New England next season.

Yeah I don't see any way the 49ers don't extend him in the off-season. Maybe they use the franchise tag to give themselves more time but I'd expect a long term deal to be done well before next season starts.

No SNF next week they need to have games on at same time for competitive balance. I tend to see what they’re saying if they put falcons v panthers on the panthers would have nothing to play for if saints won the division earlier in the day and would play second stringers with a wildcard game to come the following week

This definitely looks like a guy who is straight out the door if the Patriots 'want him'

Yip. They have placed their trust in him and it's looking like a very good trade.
SF will probably get a deal done (but can franchise him for the next 2yrs if required) and then start building the team around him. SF have their franchise QB.

I see the 49era have the 2nd most cap space so they have a fantastic chance to build a serious team around Jimmy g

It doesn't make sense for the Patriots to take him back. It would cost them an extra 10m per year now than it would have two months ago.

It depends on which site you look at who is 1st or 2nd most but they are projected to have around $115m in space. Signing Jimmy G will obviously take a hit to that number but add him actually having an off season with the team, a decent draft position, playing this year with the highest number of players on IR, and the highest number of rookie snaps in the league - we're definitely in a great position to try to make the playoffs next year.

Using yesterday as an example they put 44 points on the top ranked defense in the league ending up with Breida and Juszczyk being their top yardage rusher and receiver. Imagine what they can do if they sure up their OL and get Jimmy G some improved weapons. Lynch and Shanahan look to have turned things around extremely quickly.

Garopollo isn't moving anywhere I reckon, he's in a pretty big, glamorous city in his 20s, playing absolutely out of his skin for the son of a legend who has proven himself a very legit play caller and this year head coach (was very impressed how much the players were still going 100% for him at 0-9), with cap room to get paid big (which I reckon may have been playing on his mind a bit if he never got the chance for playing time). Short of the owners screwing up and trying to low ball him which I really doubt they would given their QB issues for much of the last 15 years, to my mind there is zero chance of him moving anywhere.

I think it was an 'in the event Brady retires in the spring' scenario. It's even less realistic for Jimmy to move back to NE to be the backup again.

The whole convo is pointless anyway why on earth wouldn't the 9ers franchise him pats can't get him back

Some teams calling for Aaron Rodgers to be released after GB cheated the IR rules with his injury.
Not a chance he gets released, but dodgy stuff by GB all the same to open up a roster spot.

As someone else said Bill belechik will be happy and might stow him on the bench behind #12

So some interesting games this weekend. Jacksonville and Kansas cant improve their seeding so surely they rest their starters?

AFC- Titans win and they are in and with Jacksonville likely to rest starters there is a good chance for the Titans at home especially after last week's performance. Ravens the same if the win they are in and with the Bengals at home you have to imagine they will make it.

Chargers and Bills outside shots at it but you never know in the NFL. Chargers would need Titans to lose and Ravens to win to make it. Bills need Titans to lose and either the Ravens lose or chargers lose to make it.

NFC - Atlanta are in if they win and the rest of the playoff spots are already sewn up. Tough one at home to Carolina but would have to fancy them to get it done, despite their poor showing last week and inconsistency over the year. Only other team in with a shout is Seattle at home to Arizona. You would imagine Seattle will do their part to get there if there is any slips from the Falcons.

Jacksonville have said they are not resting starters. If they lose that game they would most likely be playing the titans the following week so doubt they'd want to lose to a team then face them the following week.

Chiefs have announced that the team will be starting Maholmes this week so I'd expect a few of the other key pieces to be sitting out or only in for a few series (Kelce, Hill etc) but I would expect to see starting O-line in there (dont think theyll want von miller vs backup swing tackle protecting their QBOTF)

We'll see what the Jags actually do. The Titans have a good defence, they wont want Bortles , Fournette etc getting hit the week before the playoffs!

Yeah, but I dont think they want to go into the playoffs with their last football being a kicking from the 49ers either :pac:

Id say starters will go in and play for a bit, if they look ok they'll pull them out at half time or so. Gotta get that big Mo going into the playoffs :P

Last thing you'd want as a Jags fan though is to see someone important go down in a nothing game. Remember Derek Carr last season?

For me it makes sense for the Jags to play their back ups.

Interestingly talking about mo, I sort of have a niggling feeling for Kansas to make a deep run.

Jesus... Aaron Rodgers at a competent club, that's some scary thought!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,476 ✭✭✭Blut2

Rodgers playing for a team with a highly capable coach and a competent defense would be unstoppable. Part of me would love to see it...but probably best for the league's competitiveness (and the Packers!) not to.

Would expect an element of poker face with the Jags. Reality as said above Jags don't want to see a key player get injured. They may do a series or 2 but regardless of score I would be surprised to see their starters at half time.

Also titans will surely know a few hard hits could potentially have a key Jags player miss the following week
