Who has, in your view, gone from being a once cool, funny, sound or whatever person to being a tiresome, opinionated unfunny gimp.

Two that spring to mind with me are Christy Moore and Billy Connolly.

Me ears are burning. Though with much less of the really cool.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Bob Geldof seemed cool in the 70's, it's been a long time he's been in the pompous pain the the Arse category.

Richard Dawkins is definitely in with a shout here.

He was never cool, funny or sound (as per OP), he's always been a self-obsessed, sanctimonious gimp.

Geldof was never cool in the '70s, trust me. He was always a pain in the Arse.

He was always difficult. Anyone who ever had to deal with him would tell you that.

Yeah I don't think the other punk bands of the era held Bob and the Boomtown Rats in too high esteem.

Wasn't he seen as a bit of a poser?

The Rats were never seen as punk as they weren't. They were the first New Wave big band really along with Blondie (and then the Police) and like Blondie had big hits and loads of radio play but unlike Blondie they had Geldof and not Debbie Harry to swoon over.
