However removed the plate yoke to have a look and seen a nice burnt and charcoal wire going into one of the connections and thus it's where my knowledge ends.
What that usually means is that the screw in the connection terminal wasn't tightened enough, so the wire was a little loose inside it. Initially this causes tiny sparks, called arcing, between the wire and the connector which then causes a sooty carbon build up. This carbon has a higher resistance than the copper of the wire and therefore heats up causing the insulation on the wire to melt producing nasty acrid smoke, more carbon, more heat etc. etc.

If the same person installed the cooker switch as installed your other electrical sockets, it might be worth getting them checked out too. Things like this can cause fires.

Picked this up this evening. It’s something I’ve always wanted but could never justify the price. Bit of a steal at that price tbh. Plus a wand doesn’t take up too much space. Although I have been warned to do a clear out of unwanted kitchen gadgets!

But what about the waffle iron, toasted sandwich maker and electric knife?

    Ha! :D

Although I do have the first one which is constantly used. Another Aldi bargain.

The other two I’d never use.

Just saw that and was dithering about jumping in the car. Thank you for saving me from myself. :D

Olive roulette should be fun this year! Dunno how I picked them out, maybe someone put them in my trolley by mistake!

They appeared in Tesco extra, in Naas. Never saw them before, but sure you know they way unusual things appear on shelves coming up to Christmas. I might stock up if they pass the test, just in case they go missing.

The Cooking Club recipes tend to be tried and tested, and you can see the reaction of anyone who tried them. There's a Pad Thai in there:

Does anyone have any suggestions for vegetarian mains that go well with braised red cabbage?

I made a huge pot of it yesterday as a sort of experiment and while it's very nice, it seems like it is usually served with hearty meat dishes like roasts or sausages. I have a couple of vegetarians to feed and I'd like to offload some of this red cabbage into them too :) I've already frozen two bags of it and still have about a kilo left.

    Mushroom and chestnut Wellington?

I should clarify that I'm especially hoping to find out about some everyday things that I can throw together fairly quickly :) All suggestions are very welcome though!

Ah, I thought it was more of a Christmas dinner type thing. You could always go with premade veg sausages or burgers. Or try making your own veg burger. Check out the happy pears youtube channel if you'd like to experiment.

    Stuffed portobello mushrooms.
    You'll need :

    2 portobello mushrooms per person
The following are to fill 4 portobello mushrooms:
1/2 punnet of chestnut mushrooms, chopped into small pieces
    1/2 onion, finely chopped
1/2 tub of cream cheese with herbs
    1/2 tub of cottage cheese
a little bit of veg stock
Optional grated cheese for on top

Cut the stalk bits out of the portobellos, add them to the chopped mushrooms and fry together with the onion in a little oil. When the mushrooms are slightly browned, add the stock, cream cheese and cottage cheese. Let this simmer and reduce a little, add salt and pepper to taste, scoop it into the mushrooms and place them in the oven at around 180 degrees for 20/30 minutes.

I had that with braised cabbage on the weekend, and it really worked well together :)

I have a veggie coming to our pre-Christmas Dinner on Sunday and was looking at those Aldi frozen nut roast-type dinners but this will be tastier I think. Thank you! :)

The Aldi nut roast is disgusting. I got the root veg one and was really disappointed. I'm really easy to please food wise too

Love a bit of quorn roast at Christmas :) handy for leftover sandwiches too.

@Shenshen, thanks for the mushroom recipe. I made it for my dinner and it was divine! I ate two for myself, with chips! :pac:

Loving the new addition to the chop chop family. So had to find a home for it. Either buy a bigger block, or stick on an extension.

We had roast leg of lamb on Sunday. It was good.

We had cold roast leg of lamb + home-made oven chips tonight. It was good.

There's quite a lot of lamb left. Too much just for sandwiches, which we'd normally do to finish it. Any suggestions featuring cooked lamb? Curry doesn't seem very imaginative and probably doesn't make the most of the meat. Pull it apart and use it in some pulled meat dish?

You could do your own nut roast? Or maybe somewhere like m&s do a nice one.

Are they adverse to the likes of quorn? I know some veggies hate them.

I love pastry with a feta and spinach filling but it goes better with a salad than a mashed potato dinner.

What about a lentil shepherds pie? Absolutely delicious, can be made in advance and will go fabulously with all the usual Christmas sides.
