First time using the new cooker. Rest of the kitchen still to be finished but nice to have running mains water and a cooker again after a week of renovation!

Anyone had these tesco truffle sprouts?

want to get them for a sprout lover for the laugh, not too cheap and worried they might be horrible gimmicks

As long as they don't taste like sprouts you'll be all right! My son in law's friend covers real sprouts in chocolate and hands them out at Halloween :D

They're just chocolate truffles in a sugar coating. They sell out really quickly, though.

Took steak pieces out of the freezer on Sunday night. Was a bit stumped what to do with them. Grated carrot, pepper, shallots, kidney beans. Found 4 chilli's in the fridge, which I thought were sweet. They were anything but. Mixed it all in with penne pasta. Head out to walk the dog after, kids on the bikes. Never seen them cycle so fast. I'll have to ditch the dog later and run with them, after another helping of it.

Yeah, didn't think it was a weird flavour, just thought they might be cheap n nasty chocolates.

:) I heard of that with ferrero rochers.

I had some last year - my husband got given them at work, and the look of them put him off so entirely, he gave them to me.

They're not amazing, but they're not as cheap and horrible as you might think to look at them. Perfectly edible.

Delighted and surprised to see the greatest cooking show is back on TV.

    Masterchef: The Professionals.

Planning on doing a slow cooked Morrocan flavoured half leg of lamb tomorrow. Have just scored the lamb and rubbed it in a Morrocan spice blend, wrapped it tight and put it back in the fridge. I'm thinking I'll slow braise it for a few hours in a light stock with plenty of garlic and then put some assorted veg in for the last hour and serve with some cous cous or rice.
Any suggestions on jazzing this up welcome.

Nigel Slater has some great couscous recipes. Number 4, jewelled couscous would be lovely with your lamb.

Ooh, good call. That looks savage on it's own! I saw a someone cooking something similar on tv today and she used a spoon of mint sauce mixed through creme fraiche. Will definitely be trying that!

What is the deal with people hanging cooking utensils and even pots and pans over their cookers (hob top) in fancy kitchen?! I’m sure it looks fantastic in an Instagram post but surely they get manky when cooking?

Yes, they would get horribly greasy.

I've never understood that either, and also people having plates out on a rack near the cooker.

I regularly mix mint sauce with yoghurt and garlic for a raita style dip, goes well with everything!

I never thought of it but it would be a handy cheat for when you don't have fresh mint.

Watching some Christmas cooking on Food Network. I know they're repeats but Matt Tebbit (?) always comes across a bit smug, almost condescending when Lisa Fawlkner is cooking too.

Picked up the Christmas food mag in Aldi yesterday. I want to eat it all. Good job most of it won't be in the stores till December first!

Vegetable Wellington looks lovely too. I looked up making one last night, but had too much wine to attempt!

If it's stuff that you use a lot then it'll work fine.. I have a couple of pans and utensils that I'd use almost everyday, I could Happily hang them over the stove,
If the pots and pans weren't so bloody heavy.

Yeah but do you actually hang them over the stove?

It was a revelation! Got the Aldi Specially Selected mint sauce and mixed with creme fraiche. So good on the lamb and roast vegetables. It's one of those things that is perfectly obvious AFTER you've done it. FYI it would be great in a kebab or on a lamb burger.

Don't know about anybody else, but I hate mint in anything savoury. Mint chocolate, yummy. Mint ice cream yummy. Mint lamb or in a kebab, yuck.

    Anybody else like this ??

I was invited to the Aldi Christmas launch a few weeks ago. There are some really great food & drink products coming our way. There was a stuffed chicken crown that was really good (not normally a fan of stuffed things like that). The outdoor reared turkeys look great also

I do this and it's not so bad. Using the same plates and stuff daily means they get good
    rotation in the washing up...

I'm the opposite, only like it in savoury dishes. Same with nuts. They've no business being next or near chocolate.

I like fresh mint with savour stuff but don't like dried mint or any kind of mint sauce or jelly.

    Fresh mint in raita.... Yum.
    Fresh mint in tabouleh.... Yum.
Fresh mint in salsa verde... Yum.
    Fresh mint with peas.... Yum.
Fresh mint with tomato and cucumber salad with lime juice and fish sauce..... Yum.
Any of the above with lamb.... Yum.
