    Hi i have 5 penalty points on my lerner permit and im just wondering is ther a chance to reduce them by 1 point is there a crouse i can do or any thing at all maybe if i change my licences fo foreign and then insure the car will that work ? that would realy help me with my insurance thanks for the anwswers

    Yes i have done 12 lessons but my question is , is there a course i can do to reduce the penelty points from 5 to say 4 that would realy help me thnks for your answear

    Serious answer - no. Once you have them they stay.

    If you pass your test your limit goes to 12, in the meantime getting it down to 4 won't help much as a lot of offences are 3 points now which would still put you off the road.

    Ok thanks becaouse in poland there is a driving course that you do for a day and you can reduce up to 6 penelty points , ok so if i pass my test and i would exchange the licences in poland and i would have polish licences and came to ireland with them will the 5 penelty points be valid in ireland >?

    Thanks for your answers any way, i just brake speed limit 2 times and i know i did wrong but like my insurance went from 3500 to 4500 i cant afford to pay that much money thats why i want to do somthing to reduce this

    To be honest, and I'm going to sound cheeky here, but I wouldn't want you on Irish roads if you have those points with a Learner Permit.

    Please adhere to the Irish rules of the road as that's where you're applying for your license and driving.

    Reduce your points by driving lawfully.
    If you've managed 5 points on a learners permit would that not stop and make you think.
    You maybe a 'good' driver but that doesn't mean an accident won't happen.

    Two and a half years on a Learner Permit?

    OK.. curiosity is getting the better of me... do you have a licensed driver with you when you're driving?

    I think our conversation is making no sense and wont help me any way so i just wont reply to it becaouse i didnt ask how bad driver i am i asked is ther a chance to reduce the penelty points and if i had freign licenc would the points remain on my acount in ireland and i didnt got a resneble answear to that so i just wont go in to arguments here.

    You have to be so careful on the road as a learner driver as you are allowed less penalty points than a full license holder. yes, your insurance premium will rocket with those points, and no, there is no course to reduce those points, they stay on your licence for a rolling three year period, the only advice I can give is stay within the speed limit as another three points will see you off the road, and I know, sometimes this can be quite difficult to do but the alternative is even more difficult i.e. not being able to drive.

    You're looking for a loophole.

    It doesn't exist.

    You're also deflecting my question. ;)

    The only advice I can give you is to slow down and take more driving lessons to pass the test and adhere to the rules of the road so you're safe to yourself and other drivers.

    The answer is no. The only likely opportunity is to get an address in N. I. And apply for a new learner permit there.

    Me_IRL in irish law there is soo many loopholes that you dont belive they exist so finding a loophole in penelty points law is just mater of week's :)

    Just some additional info, if you got your first learner permit after August 2014, max penalty points you can have are 7, you may need to double check this on rsa site or citizens information site, I'm not sure about using your foreign license here, the problem with this is, when insuring your car here, you have to declare penalty points regardless of what license you have.

    Maybe driving isn't for you?

    Instead of spending all this money every year on insurance (and all the other costs of motoring) just use taxis or public transport. Likely to cost the same.

    Op there is no way to get rid of the penalty points. You can go to any country in the world. Go to the moon and back but you'll still have the points.
    You have them because you deserve them. If I am to believe that this thread is genuine then you are saying that you were caught breaking the law twice. Fined twice. Got points twice. Your insurance is now really high because of all this and you say " but I was only caught speeding twice". Fined, penalty points and high insurance and you can't see the danger of you speeding? I don't feel safe with someone with that attitude on the road.

    Personally, I think the idea of doing a course in order to reduce your points is a good one but no such option exists in Ireland.

    If you were to look at some way of getting a license in another EU country and then exchanging it for an Irish license then it could be that you might slip by unnoticed as we don't have EU wide sharing of this data. However, you would be breaking the law and your insurance would likely be void as you would be failing to disclose your points.

    Rather than look at ways to reduce your points (you can't legally), try to find some way to reduce your premium. Is there any option to get a reduction if you accept some limitations (no commuting for example?). I've never seen cheap insurance from Aviva but possibly their ignition course could help you in terms of premium? Also, try talking to brokers, they might know of some specialist insurers that can help.

    How's your Polish? A hell of a lot worse than the OP's English I would guess.

    You can't exchange an Irish learners permit with another country's version of a learner permit, whatever it may be called. Also, an Irish learners permit has no legal standing outside of Ireland. Should you drive a car outside of Ireland with one, it is the same as driving with no licence. Similarly, a learners permit or provisional licence that has been issued from another country will not allow you to drive a car in Ireland.

    Well in Ireland, if you are caught doing 65 in a 60 zone, your a murdering baxtard and therefore get hit with points and an insurance hike (which is already extortionate). In other, more logical countries, points are reserved for more serious offenses and smaller FPNs are handed out for minor violations.

    But don't let that dismount you from your high horse ;)

    disagree. the penalty points/insurance costs seems to be having a much better deterrent effect than the idea of having to do a course...

    And the fact that ppl say that i dont want you on irish roads is just bul**** i have driven in polan and polish drivers are more in to speeding than irish drivers are and still there is less acidents in poland than in ireland and i can drive 150 km in town and be more safer than some of drivers here thats my own opinion :)
