    Dee on MG

She has a kid with Marty.
She's called Eleanor - they've mentioned her once or twice

It is as if Conor Irwin is the "by Dee-fault" replacement on MG, and that they haven't chosen him as her replacement; rather he has inherited it. I would like Ruth on weekdays breakfast but they can probably only afford to have her on weekends, that might also explain why Colm Hayes is only on every two Saturdays.

Now that you mention it, I guess there is the 80s/90s show. I haven't listened to NOVA much of late, except a short bit in the evenings.

Plus Dees 80's lunchtime stuff. Seems to be more classic pop than classic rock now.

Hayes suggestion is silly , he’s full time PD with Nova . As for his ability to fill slots , I’m baffled

The way they've been babbling on about USpews's "latest" album for the last few weeks is enough to turn the milk sour in your tit.

It's fascinating the amount of ex-2FM broadcasting staff that are or have been with Radio Nova:

Colm Hayes, Ruth Scott, John Clarke, Liam Quigley, Mike Maloney, Louise Heraghty, Hugh O'Brien, Enda Murphy (moved to "sister" stations 4FM and Sunshine 106.8), Gareth O'Conner (sports) and Damien Farrelly (briefly before 4FM).

Do you realise a John Clarke, Colm Hayes, Mike Maloney were on the original Nova long before any 2FM

Did anyone else notice a beep every 15 seconds or so on the broadcast Sun night/Mon morning. Heard it first on Pat James and was still beeping after 4AM. Also there on TuneIn and browser player. Couldn't check on FM as I don't live in DKMW area.

Thought it was the Ruskies sending me a message that it was time to rise and take over the country.......but as it was a single beep it was too short for morse code :D Really feckin annoying, especially when you start hearing it and can't unhear it every 15 seconds.

I did lol. Tried two phones and a computer. It kept going until 6AM. Every 15 seconds. Maybe their smoke alarm was connected to the broadcast system.

And you listened to it for two hours?

It seems like stating the obvious, but why didn't you just switch off?

I don't sleep very well due to health problems so I have it on in the background on a timer. Should have switched to something else but wanted to see how long it would keep going. There must have been some problems cos when the 6AM news started, there were ads being played over it.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow as my annual month long break from Nova is about to start (Christmas FM is kicking off).

    Not a Nova fan?

I would probably describe it as a love hate relationship, Mikey. I'm a long time listener like many of you, but slightly disillusioned with the direction they've decided to take in recent times. Granted, they can still surprise you with a good track from time to time. But for the most part it's quickly becoming another face in the crowd on Irish radio. Nevertheless, I soldier on with it in the hope that things may improve, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

I’ve become quite despondent with Nova and their shift in their playlists over the last year or so but a little shine of light happened this evening on ththe drive home, with Pat Courtney of all people.

He was discussing Malcolm Young’s funeral which had just taken place in Australia and talked about Malcolm in general.

Great I thought. He’s bound to play some AC/DC now as a tribute and I tried to think of what Nova have played over the years. Thunderstruck was my first thought or maybe You Shook Me All Night Long. I couldn’t remember any other AC/DC tracks that Nova have played.

But Courtney took me completely by surprise when he decides to play Girls Got Rhythm!!!

I cranked the car radio up and for those three and a half minutes. It was bliss. All was forgiven with Nova. Courtney was a DJ god!

It was short lived and normal service was resumed shortly afterwards but by god it sounded good and it was a little slice of heaven as long as it lasted.

No matter how much more Courtney annoys me in the future I’ll always have respect for him for that little golden nugget.

A textbook example of what I mentioned earlier. They can and do pleasantly surprise you from time to time.

It shouldnt be a "suprise" it should be the norm...thats the problem with them...Theyre afraid to play "odd ball" tracks in case their listeners dont know the song and turn off....its a shame really, and a wasted opportunity imo..

I was listening a few weeks back and he played an Imagine Dragons song. After it finished he said 'And that was Imagine Dragons with **song name**' then under his breath but loud enough to be heard clearly he says 'and I f*cking HATE Imagine Dragons'.

Fair play, I cracked up at that one.

I very briefly switched back to Nova today (constant Christmas music just isn't feasible). Have they finally ditched 'Secret Santa' and his euphemistic jokes about his sack? He didn't make a single appearance all day, normally he'd be in full swing by now.

Bet he'll be back after this weekend - they are doing a "Christmas Special" this weekend so it'll be him and fairytale every 10 minutes.

Had a nice afternoon driving around Norway today with P6 on the radio.
Just a follow-up on this, recently found P6's sister station Bandit Rock - online here

The most recent dozen songs as I'm typing -

    Alice Cooper - Hey Stoopid
Meat Loaf - Bat Out Of Hell (which they bizarrely cut short!)
The Scorpions - Send Me An Angel
    Moving Oos - Romancer
Neil Young - Rocking In The Free World
Iron Maiden - Fear Of The Dark
Dizzy Mizz Lizzy - Made To Believe
AC/DC - For Those About To Rock
My Chemical Romance - Welcome To The Black Parade
    Guns N Roses - Yesterday
    Led Zeppelin - Black Dog
    Motörhead - Heartbreaker

Got that one bookmarked anyway. :)
