According to their Facebook page, Colm Hayes AND Lucy Kennedy are to be 'reunited' on air tomorrow from 10am.

In the same league as kathryn thomas, as being an instantly unlikeable person working in media. shouty shouty shouty!

People realise it's a one off guest appearance?

    This thread is unbelievable.

You’re entitled to your opinion like all of us but this is race to the bottom homogenised radio. What exactly this pairing brings to the station is beyond me .

We know what guest appearances lead to....A prime time slot a few months later!

Its a shame that they seem more concentrated on big name presenters that proper rock dj's...its obvious Hayes is running the place ..the whole things stinks now..

Do they even mention that it's a "Rock" station in their ad's and liners etc. anymore?

It's not a pairing. Whatever it brought or didn't bring, it's done with now. Am I the only one who gets that?

And still, people are up in arms over it.

But sure look, you're all switching off, lost forever, etc, etc.

Don't think so. It's turning into another 2FM/Today FM clone. I only listen now to Pat James, John Clarke and Tony Ainscough. The rest only play pop now.

they were playing their This is what we play - and snippets of songs like Queen, U2, etc saying this is Nova music and then playing a rap song saying this is not nova over the weekend.

Surprised to hear it if I'm honest, it is really turning into a 2FM/Today FM clone

    And Davin?

Lol - I keep forgetting poor Davin. He does have a great show and plays what listeners want to hear.

And they have the nerve to say in one of their ads that they play stuff that other stations are too chickensh1t to play  When was Iron Maiden or Sisters of Mercy or anything not pop friendly played on Nova last (outside of Tonys show of course)?

You forgot Pat James and John Clarke this time!

Apparently, Davin O'Callaghan is another exception!

And the one that everyone forgets, including me, is Gavin Glass, presenter of Locals Only! His music selection tends to veer towards alternative/indie rock.

You know how there's stuff like Movember, Dry January and all that kind of malarky, do you think we could try and organise a "Sound effects free month" on Courtney's show?

He's gone into overdrive with them today, but then again he's craaaaaaazzzzzyyyyyyy !! so doubt it..

IMHO it was a really bad idea - it did not fit in any way with the Nova audience.
Its done and dusted but similar 'ideas' should be avoided.

No, it didn't fit with the perception that posters on this thread have of what the Nova audience is, i.e. with themselves.

People decided that this was a 'pairing' and that Lucy Kennedy was now a Nova DJ and the station was going down the tubes and why can't they give new talent a shot and I'm switching off forever.

The people on this thread are not representative of anything. Like, you've lads here asking why we don't hear Iron Maiden in prime time radio slots. It's completely detached from reality. A bit of Sisters of Mercy? The idea is to increase the listenership, not have them switching off in droves.

    Again, this is not reality.
Radio Nova has added to both daily and weekly reach in the latest JNLR ratings. The station has added 6,000 per day, bringing its ‘listened yesterday’ figure to 72,000 and added 5,000 to its weekly listener ‘cume’ figure, bringing it to 142,000.

I agree with a lot of the sentiment of your reply, however I am aware of the continuous drive of any radio station to increase their audience and the techniques(limited) that are available and understand the whys Nova (or any station) keep the playlist mainstream. In general Novas audience is Adult / higher % Male and listeners who choose not to listen to the 'chat' style programs available on other stations in the 10 to 1 slots.
In my opinion the Colm & Lucy one off special was a turn off in that slot, while acknowledging that radio stations must always experiment to grow the core audience must always be retained.

In general I agree with you - in particular on people suggesting their own niche bands should be more prominent on Nova. But I don't think Iron Maiden should fall under that category. They're one of the best-selling rock bands of all time, with a string of top-ten hits to their name. I think it's fair to say AC/DC would be one of Nova's signature bands - it was the first band they played, for example, and they get regular airtime - and they're musically not miles apart, but AC/DC have never had a top-ten hit strangely. Does it make sense that one should be a signature band but it's "completely detached from reality" to think the other should ever get prime-time airing?

It doesn't have to be the full 8-minute-long Paschendaele, but a quick blast of Run to the Hills as an occasional blow-the-cobwebs-off tune would be nice.

Like I say, in general I agree with you - but think you're being harsh on Maiden.

I think i've heard Metallica more times than Maiden tbh...
AC/DC are a nova band..they fit perfectly into their music policy...not to play rock music....:P
Maiden are a bit heavy for the delicate ears of the U2/Coldplay nova listerership me thinks...
