but its not a case of dropping anyone but giving guys a chance.
best unfortunately is dipping but we lack real depth at hooker. that is a real problem area that has the potential to hurt us.

the 6 nations is where you build your squad, not autumn internationals.

Hooker isnt great but it isn't bad either
Beat, Scannell, Cronin, Herring, Tracy, Heffernan, McCartney, Marshall (Still to qualify). We have a lot of players with no real stand out. Scannell is the one I think we would hope stay healthy.

The 6n is the IRFU main cash cow. They budget for top 3. France spent years making 4/5/6 changes every week and they are a rabble now. The 6n is most definitely not where we build our squad for a RWC. If it was that simple all 6 sides would be making multiple changes (by choice) from game to game.

you cannot blame the irfu for their stance on the 6 nations, they need the money, no more can you blame every country that voted for France. They need the money too. A clear winner in france getting the world cup is actually everybody, even the IRFU. I read over 300 million euro promised by France, at that price it could be France every four years.

And i think we should try and win every 6 nations as we dont have many but you have to speculate to accumulate. we dont want to reach the 2019 world cup and having to tell carbery, you have rarely played 10 for leinster and have a handful of caps for ireland, now go win us the world cup.
worst case scenario, if sexton plays 10 for ireland then carbery has to start 15 in some games.

    Personal I'd like to see;

    Healy
    Best
    Furlong
    Ryan (is he fit?)
    Hendo
    POM
    SOB
    Stander
    Murray
    Sexton
    Stockdale
    Aki
    Henshaw
    Byrne
    Kearney

Tracy, McGrath, Ryan, Dillane, Ruddock, McGrath, Keatley, Conway

Conway needs the starts more than Byrne does right now.

Aside from injury replacements we'll see the team that played SA, imo. So Dillane/Ryan on the bench, depending on the latter's fitness, and then Keatley in for Carbery. Am I forgetting any of the other injury concerns?

Leinster have someone the national team coach judges to be a 10 playing fullback. Ulster have Peter Nelson - a fullback - filling in at outhalf. In an ideal world there would be a swap, with Nelson going to Leinster to play 15, and Carbery heading north to solve Ulster's problems at flyhalf and get gametime in the position he plays at international level. There'll be too much red tape, and Leinster won't want to lose Carbery, and the players themselves might not even be interested, so I can't see it happening though.

I can't see why Ulster didn't make a move for madigan in the summer. I know Jackson didn't get stood down from playing until after the madigan deal was done but they surely knew how serious the Jackson situation was

Madigan was made an offer that in no situation Ulster could match.

Then someone knocked on his door with a lorry full of money. Decision swayed.

Okay then the point is why didn't Ulster come in with interest before the lorry full of money arrived

And would Madigan have been aware of the PJ situation and maybe didnt want to go somewhere and end up at 12/15/22

EOS suggesting tonight that Carberry should leave Leinster for a while if he wants to get international gametime at 10.... Ulster might be worth a shout

It must be hard being understudy to someone like Sexton when you know he's never going to miss a game through injury.

What would Carbery know about that?

Bristol were talking to Madigan as early as Christmas last year. Long before anything formal or official was said regarding Jackson and even longer before Ulster would've been allowed to say anything on the matter.

    Madigan signed early March
It was late July when Jackson was formally named. As of early march it would've been illegal for Ulster (if they were even privy to details) to make decisions regarding the case. As of then Madigan was looking at being number two had he joined Ulster and on far less money

right now would any of the provinces take Carberry as their starting 10, maybe Ulster but that's only due to circumstance they are in.

Really? Two starts I think he's established himself nicely as a good fringe player.

We haven't seen Byrne tested yet.

I think everyone is missing the point Joe was making about Carbs at 10; needs must and for now Leinster's needs are twofold, to get Carbery on the field, and to fill in a test level player at 15. But most importantly joe spoke about Carbery's learning how to control the game, and that he's made consistent improvements.

Basically he's saying there's no need for panic, he's learning, and he doesn't need to be playing every game at 10. If he's going to end up there he'll get there, eventually.

With RK's injury profile and Zebo gone, we need cover for RK fast. Even if Conway is only playing on the wing, it's still valuable for him.

Byrne hasn't earned anything yet IMO.

Not really a shame for me though is it, I was just answering a question on if he'd start for anyone other then Ulster and I'm sure you'd agree he'd start for or Connacht. I'd like to see him at connacht or Ulster but personally can't see it happening.

Madigan's development really has scarred Irish fans for life. There's absolutely nothing wrong with a young 10 playing in different positions to get game time.

But don't forget, any players coming through that in anyway resemble any facet or aspect of Madigans play style or early breakthrough are automatically going to turn out the exact. same. way.

    This doesn't make any sense.

He's behind Sexton at Leinster. He'd still be behind Sexton for Ireland, no matter which province he moves to. He already is getting international gametime at 10. It assumes Jackson is not going to feature again.

pom stander and sob look like first choice
we need to get conan and ruddock etc serious game time to offer realistic competition because currently the choice at backrow is not as strong as people believe.
and this is the case across the field bar a few positions.
the 6 nations is where you build your squad, not autumn internationals.

At this point you're basically the AAA/PBP of boards.ie rugby. It is irrelevant what Joe Schmidt does re. selection and squad building, like Tuesday follows Monday you would be on here saying he should have done the opposite.
